new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Has anyone noticed pin sized see through parts of PS3 game discs where the top layer with the label has rotted away, where you can see through it if held up to the light? A lot of my PS3 games have this, has anyone experienced this and has it effected the gameplay at all. I'm hesitant to sell these on ebay because of it

Also I think one big reason its harder to make money off game reselling now is because half of the discs are damaged, carts didn't get damaged as easily. now in a lot of games from a yard sale that have been abused a lot are too scratched to sell whereas in a lot of carts 99% of games would work.

It doesn't, but it will last longer than me. So I can be the caretaker of mint copies of my personal favorites, and pass them on to whoever's still around here that I like before I go.

So am I. :) I've read into disc rot and climate and keeping them stored in my house at room temp versus a storage center that's dark and cold and damp. Has a lot to do with it. Not saying mine will last forever, but they will last longer than me.

I found a few threads on this matter of some people saying they had ps3 discs like that that stopped working at some point in the game. This sucks, alot of them were RPGs or other $10+ games too. And these are all games gotten at different times mostly at random pawn shops, so I think this is not just a one time issue.

No I edited it, most of the games are $10+ though and I'm losing some decent games here:

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition
Twisted Metal
Time and Eternity
Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2
Folklore
Sly Cooper Thieves in Time
Tales of Grace F
Injustice Ultimate Edition
Def Jam Rapstar
Naughty Bear
Persona 4 Arena
Yakuza 3
Sega Genesis Collection
RE Operation Raccoon City Special Edition

All those have scrapes or disc rot where the label came off in a scratch or pin prick and you can see through the disc under light, that's like half of the PS3 games in this box. Not super expensive titles but still a lot of money and good games lost.

Ah ok, I wasn't trying to minimize your loss, I was just genuinely surprised much of anything is *rare* for ps3 outside some special or collectors editions. On a side note, is resurfacing effective/approved on blurays these days? I know Kwaza usually makes note that anything dvd and earlier is something he will do and has had success with.

Scary I need to check my ps3 games. another reason I want to get a modded ps3 and rip my discs, I keep seeing things saying discs aren't going to last as long as people think. I wonder if its a symptom of the early-ish days of blu ray or whatever the tops are made out of?

one of the best cases for the emulation/modding community, preserving so many things that will be gone once discs are rotted and original hardware no longer works.

PSX, Sega CD and Saturn discs don't seem to be nearly as failure prone on the data layer, scratches aside since that's not data, that's plastic

And I ain't home for another hour and a half.

On that front, When my CD-Rs stop workin', I just burn anudder. Easy!

Blu rays shouldn't be resurfaced. They are more durable than DVDs and the data is closer to the bottom the disc. Where you even finding broken BDs? Don't just resurface those poor discs for fun.

THIS. DO NOT RESURFACE BLURAYS.

Also yeah, I've literally never encountered this with a PS3 game but I'm also not accumulating PS3 games from people that treat them poorly. I'm also not shy about asking for a better looking disc if a store tries to give me a crap disc.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
Castlevania Chronicles (would have to emulate or pirate)
Einhänder
G-Darius
Metal Gear (would have to emulate or pirate, or find a copy)
Nectaris Military Madness
Omega Boost
RayStorm
Strider 2 (would have to emulate or pirate)
Thunder Force V

Everything that's incomplete on Ebay has to be listed as acceptable condition. Anything listed as good or better has be complete. Tons of listings don't abide by this, but that's what Ebay will go by if a case is opened.

Here's pics of games that either need to be tested further before selling or don't work, so if you're interested in any of them let me know and I'll tell you the condition. Some of them probably work just have scratches, I'm just picky after getting that negative and haven't tested them yet.

There are 12 unique stages, they repeat layouts afterwards. NESMania.com usually has a good goal to hit if you're trying to "beat" a game. His standards are basically you have to play up to the point the game repeats or has nothing new. Sometimes that's super easy, but it's a decent standard to apply to all games.

JSRF has some scratches but probably works haven't tested it yet, Def Jam on both systems have cracks in the middle of the disc but still work, Castlevania SOTN is scratched and the music and sometimes the gameplay skips.

So I finally finished PulseMan.

It's really good, and it had a lot of cool mechanics that I really enjoyed. The Graphics are what made it an above average game for me though, although again I did really like the characters and most of the level layouts. 6-2 really annoyed me at first just like in Ninja Gaiden but it's for a totally different reason. 😉

I think I like it better than the last two games that I hadn't really played before (I think we rented Mega Man X when I was younger but I wasn't into it then).

It's extremely frustrating. And it's not even an attractive level really. But right after that 6-3 is kind gorgeous again 😊

You rang?

Yes, I really really like Balloon Fight. The best NES game I actually did not play in my youth, but I couldn't let it pass me by (pun intended) when it hit Virtual Console because I remember so much of President Iwata's other work so fondly.

I mostly just try to beat my high score in Balloon Trip, or in the case of the GBA version, get a high score to begin with.

Damn I was hoping to find a cheaper copy of Space Quest Collection on Ebay, but the cheapest is $12. I've only played Space Quest 1. I got to the end of the game and missed an item that's on like the very first screen of the game. It was the most Sierra crap that had ever been pulled on me.

Let me show you a game called The King of Fighters. 1 or 2 of them you have to have an official RAM cart (so a Japanese or region switched Saturn too) to get it to run. Not a huge loss but it's the only time I've even encountered an extra ram game that won't play with the 4in1.

The blu-ray is effing incredible and the animation is pretty damn good for a 51 episode TV series from the 80s. Of course you get the same general experience with quality rips if that's the route you want to go.

And yeah, I'm just not dumping my original series blus because of what I mentioned before where I really just do not sell anime or movies that I get unless I hate them. If I ever NEED money though, they will be one of the first things to go up on eBay. Though games sell much faster than anime so I'd very likely reach any financial goal long before any anime I listed would sell.

Plus, having Origin, the original, Zeta, ZZ, Char's Counterattack and Unicorn all on blu is gonna be pretty awesome.

Unfortunately I can only offer trades; this time of year it's impossible for me to spend money on myself (hard enough to swing it for gifts)

Thanks though, later in 2018 if it's still available I'll follow up :)

We have a region-switch-modded US Saturn, but we don't have nearly as many Saturn games as we used to (the demise of McVan's pretty much ended the "affordable because they sat in a box for a decade and I was the first person to even look at them since the guy behind the counter graduated high school" Sega CD/Saturn pickups in my neck of the woods).

Though there is a place in Evansville where I scored a Marth amiibo pretty reasonably, so maybe there's hope.

On Pulseman: I'm playing it on Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console and I'm about to go to Stage 5.

I've played it numerous times so I can ask those who've finished it: which was harder, Stage 6 or 7?

There is a store locally where I got a bunch of cheap imports. EU/JP Dreamcast stuff mostly, but a few Saturn titles too. But then many years ago they jacked up their prices on anything not in print, even inexplicably beyond eBay (think RACS but for video games).

I pretty much purged all my expensive Saturn imports too. I just have pinball games, fighters and puzzle games left now. All really fun games.

No ads, no trailers, no parking, no $15 tickets, no people cheering when a lightsaber is drawn, no one yelling at the screen, no hearing other peoples snacks, no sharing armrests, no showing up early to get decent seats. I would say that stage 7 is more difficult overall in PulseMan than 6 but then again they are all much easier after passing them multiple times. So maybe stage 7 seemed harder since I passed it most recently and only once so I had many more chances to master the other levels first.

I can reduce the price of the 3DS XL system if you've got some PS4 games to trade towards them, and you can take $3 off to cover your shipping:

Dark Souls 2 - $10
Dark Souls 3 - $10
Tales of Zestiria - $10
Ratchet & Clank - $8
Dragon Quest Heroes - $10

With the speakers, AVRs, Subs, and larger TV sizes coming down in price. The best movie experience is now at home IMO. As far as subs and feeling the impact, your subs at home don't have to fill a huge theater room. So you get a much more impactful sound experience in a smaller family room if you set it up right. And I also love that you can get that theater experience for any movie at any time. There aren't particularly any theaters showing Weird Science in my area.

Plus once you buy the movie, and you happen to really dig it. You can watch it multiple times, no more money. I think I've watched Fury Road about 8 times so far. And Wonder Woman 3 times.

That's mostly true and unfortunately that IS only part of it. The root of all the dissension in the ranks of Americans being human to each other stems almost exclusively from all capitalism period. These thieves scammed the whole country probably for almost the last 100 years.

I'm not sure what we can do to fix the current situation(s) in America, but when people start blaming other people as opposed to the politicians who let this stuff happen and all the corporations who sell out Americans for a few extra pennies on the dollar that's some serious evil at work.

We've been told our whole lives that money is worth more than anything. This whole system is morally bankrupt right now where you can have billionaires buying off politicians so they can steal from the poor and middle class in order to give more to the rich. Like seriously America, wake the fudge up already!

Also the orange clown is not only bought and paid for but he's complicit in all this filth that's going against the people right now. It's sickening.

ya Gypsy I saw that, pretty awesome. I gotta say this thread has shown me things I never knew existed before, throughout the early to mid 90s we didn't know a lot of these things existed, we'd seen turbografx 16 but that was about it. id never heard of PCE, PCFX, turbo duo, or any of that stuff before gametz and particularly this topic

Yeah basically. It also impacts a fair bit of SCD games with much improved load times and sometimes graphical improvements.

I mean, obviously I'm the most stoked to play 新日本プロレスリング'94 バトルフィールド IN 闘強導夢 and I ordered a copy of it almost immediately.

When I ordered the SCD2/Coregrafx combo, I was like, hey, you can get an Arcade card for like, $50 now.

Then I thought about the arcade games I actually wanted to play. Possibly Strider. Burned Sapphire/Sylphia or whatever it is. That's all. Then I thought about tearing out that Everdrive every time I wanted to play one of those dumb fudging games.

Long story short, I saved $50 and now my Everdrive never ever has to leave the HuCard slot.

Basically this for me too, except when I was in Japan I saw one for under 30$ so I grabbed it. I got home and tried the arcade game I got for under 10 in Japan to go along with the card, Art of Fighting................ My everdrive still never leaves my system.

@DiamondDave it's Sapphire. Sylphia is another retardo priced shooter, but it doesn't require the arcade card. Sylphia isn't all that great imo. Pretty easy though for people looking for clears.

And yeah it's literally 12 games. Over half are fighting games if you count wrestling as fighting.

It'd be too much of a pain to go check which NEC Super CD-ROM 2 games can benefit from it, so I'm not going to check.

I don't have that pesky everdrive problem yet, so I'm busy wearing out muh hucard slot.

Nice. I'll have to pay attention next year. Definitely would have picked up that Blind Guardian CD and probably many more.

What I was wanting had to ship from Europe. Then because of weight and value or w/e it had to be completely registered so shipping was going to be something like 30 euro. For one item, admittedly a box set with a record but still.

Daytona USA
Christmas NiGHTS
The CD from Mario All Stars 25th Anniversary
Iron Maiden - Up through Dance of Death
The Offspring - Ixnay, Americana, and Conspiracy of One
Globus - Epicon
ES Posthumus - Unearthed
Will Smith - Willennium
And a couple mix CDs from high school... some Bruce Dickinson, Pathfinder, Vanilla Ice, The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, Grandmaster Flash, Nightwish, Arcturus

I think the last 2 CDs I bought at Goodwill were Men At Work Greatest Hits (turns out I only like their 2 biggest hits) and an Anthrax CD that sounds like a computer generated every song because every Anthrax song sounds exactly the same.

I didn't recognize Globus or ES Posthumus, but you also mentioned Nightwish in a mix. The Facebook gods mentioned Epica (because I 'liked' Nightwish) back in the day - it might be right up your alley. Throw those 3 bands in a blender and that what they sound like.

I love that you don't even need a Daytona soundtrack. I've just had the Saturn discs in my car forever because I love the music so much. I'll for like a month listening to nothing except Let's Go Away. I know some artists get sick of their old music, but I hope Takenobu loves his crazy Daytona music forever. This version is awesome too:

And yeah I think I listened to some Epica a while back but they didn't make it into the rotation.

ITs a local store, however the lack of options in my city/town apparently someone IS paying for this bullcrap. This is the store I only frequent if there is a sale.

So after actually playing some of that Segata Sanshiro game I'm going to have to buy it. I rarely care about adding Saturn games anymore but this is too amazing and I neeeed it.

Maybe that's it. The formulaic crap got old for me after Wing. Seed brought me to the brink of madness with their recycled cells and verbatim episodes. Still never really recovered from that experience.

This, we've got Mobile Suits AND a good cast, a raity in the series. Just regular grunts in a war.

I've requested deletion of my account. Just in case I can not come back and explain later. Because I'm not sure if they will even let me create a new account. I just cancelled 2 trades. Something I wished I never would happen. But I regretted the trade too much. Now when I come to view my collection, something I do often, I am greeted by bold markings of 2 cancelled trades on the top of my collection. I'm really just depressed about this. I'm going to have to find another nice site with box pics to track my collection. I feel exhuasted about this. Sorry to the 2 people who I did this to.

Bro, no need to delete your account. It's fine to have remorse. It's just cancelled trades, they might not even bicker about it(though they may have a right to)

If they don't grudge, the cancelled trade is deleted from your record after 3 days. Just talk to the two people you cancelled on.

I know @dunno001 is a good reasonable guy. Not sure about the other, but I am sure it can be resolved.

And besides, where else you gonna find a community like this?

So two ways the cancelled trade record will go away

1. If the other party does not express grudge, it will disappear after 3 days.

2. The other party can manually delete it.

*Not 100% sure on the number of days

Yep, I've gone ahead and removed it. I won't lie in that I would like the games, but as long as I'm not actually out anything, I'm not going to fret it. I can't speak for the other person, but I can also mention that even if it is disputed, they stop showing up after a year if there are no other cancelled. While I don't blame ya on not wanting it around, it's not something you should delete your account for. Hell, we still have a few trades from the past, too, so...

There is aftermarket stuff like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-Engine-Genesis-SNES-NE...
