new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

30 seems to beat eBay pretty good? Honestly it's weak. I couldn't recommend it over any other rpg I've played this year. For an anime high school game it's light years behind persona 5 and Tokyo Xanadu. It's more like anime middle school. It's not even so awful it's just plain. The 4 dungeon enviros are exactly the same from start to last. Some of the Xanadu dungeons are pallette swaps but at least they swapped them and layed our slightly different.

If you've played...

The Witcher
Horizon
P5
Tokyo Xanadu
Zestiria/Berseria
Nier Automata
FF15

And most of the other good rpgs on PS4 and need one to play. Perhaps. Dissing it while putting on available is counter productive lol but it's just so far behind these games. For collection purpose I'll probably pick up a digital or something one day down the road super cheap or on steam.

I've got the Snatcher soundtrack on vinyl. Frankly though I'm a bit scared about international travel for it lol, but if you're determined I could probably make that happen if it's something you're interested in.

So apparently the Vita version of Exist Archive freezes frequently.

For an $85 retail set the outer box on Lodoss War is pretty damn flimsy.

It's also... half the price of the Japanese set? So I guess it's fine, lol. I had my own complaints on it but honestly if that's the only way it was hitting US shores, I'm cool

Well the TV is a warranty replacement so only a week old or so. But I have kept stickers on for quite a long time in the past haha. I use a Denon x4000 because of the XT32, it sounds amazing.

That's one of those rare ps2 games I've always wanted and never even got to try. I can't remember which $&@8)(#! From which videogame magazine gave it an extremely unflattering review but since then I've seen and heard about how cool and different it was and now it's really hard to find and/or super expensive.

Very uncool. Just one of the reasons I won't trust most guys reviews of games in the media. On the other hand Francesca Reyes from Dreamcast Magazine always had reviews that I liked so I took a chance on Typing of the Dead for DC and was unbelievably happy with that one. Also she reviewed many other cool games that I liked, but that was the one I never would have played without her words 😊

Needless to say I will instinctively trust a female recommendation almost every time ..... Except that girl at gamedude who told me that Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D sucks. While I was buying the psp umd of it and was going to see the movie in 3D anyways. I literally felt like she was just trolling me in the real.

Anyways back on topic @Wheels617 I still want that game too but I'm not sure it's worth as much as it goes for since I never got to play it. My holy grail games I never got to play but would still maybe spend stupid amounts of future money on physical copies would be:

Jurassic Park Operation Genesis (Xbox)
Shining Force 3 (Saturn. The main reason I ever traded my original great condition 3do for a Saturn d'oh! Was for this game which was expensive even then!)
Harvest Moon (Snes)

There's others but most of them are jaguar games. I may get around to getting Haunting Ground one day though. But for 100 right now probably not yet.

I have a SCART switch that I connect to OSSC, and all systems go through the switch. The OSSC also can take VGA and component(no sound tho, so you have to come up with another way)

I have a scart switch also that only has 3 switches. I have SNES, gen/cd via RGB. And then dreamcast through the VGA. So I only have 3 systems through OSSC right now. You can obviously do more if you have room or a scart switch.

Oh yeah I still gotta get more people to vote I've been talking to people one of which is totally ignoring me.

I was hoping to get at least 20 different people to vote (and hopefully participate this time as well)
But even with the two very available games people don't want to commit that kinda time. Maybe it's the craziness of the holidays but I guess I need to try a little harder.

I know it is but I also know we can do better. The votes matter more if people actually play the games of course, but I would love to see as many people enjoying our comfy peaceful thread and playing new retro games as possible.

Plus the deals people give each other in this thread cannot be overlooked. Some of the best most beloved and priciest classics get traded here regularly with great discounts.

Everything we've played is on VC/Nintendo classic systems or Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (except MIMP lol). I also hear there are some websites where you can download these games for free, but you didn't hear it from me.

Oh I've heard about stuff like that too.

Websites that have many retro games for just like free and stuff. They must get lots of money from advertisers to afford to be that generous πŸ˜‰

I know retro collecting isn't cheap but it still seems cheaper to me than all the new systems coming out. I kinda want an Xbox S now that the prices are great and apparently original Xbox one adapters go bad faster than mayonnaise in the sun ..... Or that purple new 3ds or a Wii U or a Switch or a ps4 JUST to play virtual reality games which is around what 800 dollars? Just to play vr on ps4?

Retro and retrons and snes classics seems pretty reasonable in my weird mind. Plus then there's the Neo Geo home system which as expensive as it is always seemed really cool to me.

The thing about streets of rage is that while it has a lot more votes than it should most of the people voting don't have the time to play Shining Force. And as @creagan pointed out its not easy like a typical rpg where you can just grind until you can defeat higher level enemies. You literally will lose every battle if you charge the enemy without setting up a strong front line with decent support.

I shouldn't have called Streets of Rage mediocre but it's hard to get too involved in a game that's so shallow. I wish there was more to it but it's not like sega was trying to reinvent the wheel with it they were just trying to make a beat em up with nicer graphics than normal. It's not terrible and yes it is one of the only decent beat em ups that I can think of on the system but it is only okay. It's also been years since I've played Shining Force or Streets of Rage so maybe Shining Force won't be as good as I remember either.

I'm sure it'll be solid, haven't gotten my hands on an 8bitdo controller that I didn't like to some extent. The NES-style double stick one's a close no, but it still functions fine, most of my complaints on that are just aesthetic ones. This looks solid.

Huh, I never thought of that. But I did used to play the same battles over and over again when I was younger. It was my first real RPG that I really loved besides Dragon Warrior. So maybe I did that at some point but I don't remember doing that. I did used to focus on finishing enemies with my paladin though so I could make sure he would be strong enough to not get killed since he had more movement points.

Also I still have yet to even try any Fire Emblem games, is the battle strategy similar to Shinig Force?

I love grinding too depending on the RPG I'm playing, or even simulation type game.

Grinding technically happens on different levels in different ways with almost all games though. For instance Mortal Kombat 9 was the first fighting game I really got to a high skill level in but that fighting engine is really deep despite all the people playing Street Fighter that think it isn't. They just don't get the depth of it initially since there's way more going on than meets the eye.

Hell, even this year it took replaying Castlevania to come back and replay Ninja Gaiden with more skill and understanding of how to avoid damage to make the most of boss battles that I couldn't avoid taking damage against.

Oh hell no! Was that a Russian dwarf hamster? I feel terrible even admitting this but I used to get pinky mice for my rattlesnake (she's gone now and that's also sad 😞) and I used to go to this pet store that I call the Chinese pet store since the two older people never knew what I was saying lol. But they had no small mice that day and I bought this cute but diseased looking hamster and she ate her up 😞

I know all animals need to eat but subjecting mice and other rodents to that kind of death is something that makes me feel pretty awful.

There's a whole month to play either game, the only problem with beating Streets of Rage is you can't really (that I'm aware of anyways) save it but you can save in Shining Force.

Plus Jogurt! 😍

I'm still thinking about a dual game of the month this month so people can play whichever they prefer and still be Playing together maybe @Lunar??? Plus it'll give some of us a chance to replay both. I'm still getting a copy of streets of rage (just haven't gotten it yet) either way though. So I can actually play both this month.

Don't make me bribe random gametz people that don't even frequent the RTT lol. I already tried convincing people that are here to vote Shining Force but I have the ability to give stuff for their votes 😊

I'd prefer to just have them be dual games of the month honestly since they are both on the same compilations and people can then play whichever they prefer. And they each have enough votes to warrant game of the month status for any month we've had so far.

But I've got an even more fun idea for Lets play Together for February. 😊

So I'm trying to work with a seller who shipped the wrong items. The other buyer had what was supposed to be my game up on his Ebay store within days. Cool guy. I've already decided i'm never going to see it back. The seller sent me a shipping label to ship what I had (box of Club Nintendo pins) directly to that buyer. He already refunded me and then some, so fine. He sent me a 15.9oz first class label for a 13oz item. It was only 47 extra dollars it's more about the rift that got me feeling bad.

It didn't qualify for media mail even though it's 21 pounds most of which was books and magazines.

Why would you think you're not going to get your Thomas the tank engine game back from the other buyer then? Did he already sell it himself?

I can tell the seller is having a hard time with him. The seller sounds like a normal guy trying to make things right. The second buyer's address apparently showed up in a directory of mail fraudsters or something.

To be fair, it went Media at his own request. He probably saved five bucks by going media versus priority. Question is, would he pay five bucks NOW to have had the package four or five days ago?

I remember it happened to me once. Seller sent media mail and when it got to me, it was clear that the package had been opened. But they did end up delivering it. Whether or not the seller got a bill for more postage, I do not know.

This package is fully legal so if they try to hit me with more charges or send it back I will be quite pissed. The additional postage is paid by the recipient. I had this come up with a huge package for @dunno001 but I paypaled him half of the difference.

Yeah, it's one of the reasons I've started warning people sending to me (and people asking about my outbounds) about media mail. Different areas seem to have varying enforcements, and my local PO seems to be one of the harder ones to sneak it through.

(Off-topic, I know, but is that Takumi from Initial D as your avatar? I feel like I should know for certain, but I'm blanking...)

And yeah I've quit messing around with media mail as well. I will only do it for stuff that qualifies where it makes a difference (like in the case of the blus from DD it's like $2 or movie thereabout so adding another $5 or more to shipping was not appealing). It's just not worth the inspection and hassle generally.

I believe you got a DVDO Duo from @Lunar right? It's a very pleasant processor for SD film content. It's the best one I've used for VHS and LD in fact. I would assume it is better I'm not dumping out $3000+ for a Lumagen 2144.

Actually I've had half of my packages opened at least during media mail deliveries. I usually prefer to have priority but I always tell people however you want to deliver is fine with me. I think they crack down on us because we are in CA and Net York respectively. I have also had at LEAST two things stolen or lost in media mail that was opened and had a sensor bar for a Wii broken (it still worked but idk)

I am sick of media mail. The delivery time isn't as important as not giving the post office a green light to fudge you over. I also much prefer priority when I send and receive because it's a flat rate. I had a box that was 35 pounds delivered and it ended up costing 82 dollars.

Priority isn't expensive at all and they treat it like it actually matters that it arrives in one piece. Just sayin it's something to think about.

Nice! Although I think 6 is lower than it deserves but at least you played it on your own and gave it a chance, and I actually felt like PulseMan had a little in common with Mega Man as far as his moves were similar to a Mega Man boss (not one in particular but it just had that feel to me) also the main boss in PulseMan reminded me a lot of Dr. Wily. Overall to me at least that's the only real similarities to it, but it did have that kind of Genesis platformer feel but way better.

It's a pretty original creative game though and I still think that there's time for @Lunar and @sailorneorune to finish it this month. That would make at least 5 of us and considering it's the most obscure game we've played together that's pretty good.

My complaints:

1. Again, important, lightning dashing should not be limited. Ever. Make more entertaining levels that take advantage of that. There were already mechanics in place to limit or inhibit traversal, utilize them. Or just have energy stages where you're charged up and can do it nonstop, and keep the rest of the stages more tightly designed with just jumping and attacking; they don't really feel like they belong together to me.
2. Fudge the levels that make you bounce back and forth for 15 seconds to traverse tiny vertical spaces or convert a vertical lightning dash climb into a horizontal shift, that crap is asssssssssss design. Especially when you find out you just did it in a dead-end! Thanks!
3. Scaling for the game leads to frustrating deaths due to leaps of faith that didn't pan out. Zoom it out or reduce the sprite sizes, Pulseman and company take up way too much real estate.
4. Enemies were an afterthought, very rarely did they feel purposely placed, and the variance was nonexistent. Some of the bosses, also, seemed like afterthoughts.

One in particular that I think was meant to be a bit of a key fight, boiled down to trying to make an ability with a moderately random chance of successfully colliding with the boss that also uses the same move, took entirely too long and required too many repeat occurrences to make it any fun for me; you were forced to do it to the point where you said, exasperated, "Okay, I get it..." and then forced to do it another six times anyways. And depending on when the random event happened, may not even have given you an opening to perform the task the battle wants you to perform at all. Waste of time.

With a few changes, taking advantage of the best mechanics and tightening the level design, this could have been a 7-8/10. As is, Genesis already has plenty of excellent platformers with good design and tight feeling controls for this one to matter much. I will credit the deep tracks, some of the level designs and some of the bosses. I'd play it again. But it's not doing it for me.

@DiamondDave I get where you're coming from on most of your key points and agree with them to an extent. They don't detract too much from the game for me however because again as I posted before I feel like after the first few times I lost on stages one, two, three or four and five I really figured out how to play the game and it prepared me to zoom through any level aside from the Abyss and the levels that were auto scrollers on stage 7. Those were pretty frustrating and brutal I totally agree with that.

The charging boss was a little annoying I agree there but again once you know how he's maybe the easiest in the game. Plus he's not random at all the timing is just a little drawn out making it seem more dangerous and random than it is and the spacing on that boss is important to save time.

My main plusses for this game are the fun level designs and especially the artwork. While it is true the enemies seemed like generic background fillers that were almost cut and paste mix and matched from other random platformers once you've played it as any times as I did (again it's literally the first non arcade game I've passed 100% on an arcade stick controller not to mention I'd never heard of it before and had no idea what I was doing my first day playing it) it is way more fun. Even though charging is kinda limited I still had no problems zipping through almost every level by the time I finally passed the last stage.

For me it was the play mechanics of the main character, some of the great music on some stages the fact the level design was different on every level and the colors and graphics on a lot of the levels were just gorgeous even compared to most other Genesis platformers which stick out to me as some of the most artistic and gorgeous games around.

But yeah I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and I didn't expect to like it this much either. It's just one of those rare games that really checks off a lot of my gaming needs all in one game. But I didn't feel that way until I felt like I could do whatever I wanted and could pass everything with ease save for the final boss of course.

For me it was a high nine mostly in its uniqueness and art including the music but again that's just me. I know it's not anywhere near flawless, but the good easily makes me forget my original frustrations I had with it. It just became fun by the time I finally finished it 😊

@BleedingViolet, i forgot to answer your question about two simultaneous games a month...while I know exactly how you feel in that regard, because I have thought the same thing...i just feel like having 2 games of the month really detract from the purpose of it all.

I feel like one game with our fullest attention for the month is perfect. There is no other distraction. While it may suck if the game isn't what you voted for or wanted to play, you could always still play it on your own like @Gypsy, he's always going rogue. If it wins the game of the month, it should mean the majority(to be precise, more than 50% of the group wants to play it). And there is always the next month and the month after that. You could also play more than the Game of the Month and we can still discuss it as a group. But for the purpose of Game of the Month, I think sticking to one game, voted by the majority is the way to go. Keep it simple.

I could see where people could get it backwards, though. Pulseman predates PokΓ©mon by a mere 2 years, and some of the aesthetic (near-future fantasy) elements definitely carried over. The PokΓ©mon Rotom and the move Volt Tackle (JP:Volteccer) are callbacks to Pulseman.

As for my own playthrough, I had to shake the rust off first. Hope to finish tomorrow.

A 6/10 it can depend on the scale. We are so conditioned to school grade scales but on a pure number scale that's above average.

The voting turnout this month seems much higher than any previous month. Has anyone been tracking total votes?

While I get the intention I also know it will exclude half of the people on either side this month since the games are so different.

If nothing else I know anyone CAN pick up and play Streets of Rage unlike Shining Force. Both are very rewarding games in their own regard. I do really like relaxing with some simpler beat em ups from time to time myself. But again it's style as much as substance in these types of games that make it more fun for me.

Like whether or not Tmnt is actually a better arcade brawler than streets of rage it's impossible for someone like me to fairly compare those two. I have such great memories of playing TMNT in the arcade.

I'm just glad I've grown up enough to try to enjoy almost all games now how most of the creators intended me too. I can find good qualities in just about any game now. ...... Unless it's soccer lol I won't even try ...... Or hockey.

If you and @jsoncip38 and lunar can finish by New Year's Eve that would be at least 6 completions for this month possibly the most of any game yet. Also that would mean that obscure as this game is to find and play we really are starting to bond more over these classic games. 😊

That's pretty cool as far as I can tell 😊

I did pass both Streets of Rage 1 and 2 back in the day. Neither is bad but again my tastes were more defined and I liked less stuff back then.

Kind of like those video game magazine editors who screwed me out of many cool games because of their own gaming biases lol.

Just because those guys negatively reviewing my favorite games were adults doesn't mean they were any more mature than I was as a child trusting them. Some of those guys would slander great games because of the dumbest shizzle.

Someone make a monthly histogram of this. Because I'm too lazy to. I was a 6/10 on Pulseman as well.

Last month was super close actually, only 4 of us even voted for PulseMan and I'm pretty sure Shadow Dancer had 3 votes. I also believe there was a third game with two votes. But there were way more options initially so that could be why people weren't as into voting since it's too spread out and two choices is a lot easier to say hey I'd really rather play this game than that.

Put a post up on Facebook seeing if anyone had a ps3 for sale to make up for the one of mine that died, so I can grab that sonic ultimate genesis collection i was told about. Got a text from a friend today that he had one for me. How much I owe ya? "0.00 plus 7.5 %sales tax" Apparently his son tried to sell it at gamestop and they were going to give him 8.00 for it so he asked his dad to find someone to give it to. On top of that its the backwards compatible version. That and the collection game arriving to me on sunday. Very thankful!

Anyway I'm sure you already know but be careful with those old model PS3s. I strongly recommend replacing the thermal paste. I haven't used mine in awhile but it is still running last I knew. It looks like Frankenstein's monster as part of the casing was cut and removed for custom fans.

Going through my Nintendo DS collection, I find that I don't like any of the DS-style JRPGs. It's clear that JRPGs have been in decline for me, the more important issue is that I don't like the DS graphics at all.

I urge fellow collectards to go through your collection and try a few games, you will find that it's very likely your tastes have changed since you acquired the games.

This is interesting and I've always wondered as well. I poked around a bit just now and as best I can tell Namcot was used for games developed working along side Data East. Every source article though (including one on Namco's old official website) 404'd. Seems fairly legit and consistent though.

Btw, it was "Na-ma-ko-to", my mistake. If I had to guess they just didn't want gaijins pronouncing it Namkodo or some crap so they just dropped the last syllable

I am seeing one theme, @Gypsy and it's that most arcade titles have "Namco" and most of the home translations have "Namcot". Could just be a home conversion division.

Final Fantasy XV

Overwatch: GOTY Ed
Tales of Zestiria
Tales of Berseria
Yakuza 0

Skyrim: Special Edition

Yeah, I mostly hunt for deals unless I'm really dying to support a release or watch something which is fairly uncommon. There is quite a bit I have that has been released on blu but it's like, well I paid $8 for all of Outlaw Star, $20 for Scrapped Princess etc... so I'm in no rush to pay the current blu prices on those. Don't even get me started on the Rurouni Kenshin OAV prices...

TZ and a couple local chains have been really good to good to me for getting so much to watch for cheap. Shout out to TZers @sailorneorune @monkeysmadness and @kevolones in particular. I still have everything I got from you all over the years here. :)

Oh and idk if you can really tell but this is with consolidating single sets. Like you only see two Flame of Recca dvd cases there but there are 10 dvds inside those cases. I have the original cases and artwork stored elsewhere.

Listed the PS4 Pro, I think it's happening lol. If someone was looking to upgrade to Pro and had a slim available, could probably work out a cash/trade combo, since I still have a moderate interest in finishing Yakuza 0 and Uncharted 4. Have it listed for $180 + PS4 Slim in Classifieds, or could do $160 plus a PS4 slim for someone in this thread.

@Gypsy didn't realize you finally got Macross. I hope you were able to pick it up reasonably. The ADV dub is not worth $300. broken heart

I did finally finish Pulseman. And it has aged reasonably well, but I can see where some of you got aggravated. I can burn through the first half of the game with relative ease, but then the rust really started to show. The latter half of Stage 6 and the whole of Stage 7 can cause a lot of headaches for new players or even those who remember it fondly from their youth but simply haven't played through it in a few years (ME!).

Still a solid 8 in my book. I should really try to finish Drill Dozer and HarmoKnight sometime.

Woah woah woah, Super Monkey Ball's minigames was far superior to SMB2.

I'll pick up a slim at a good deal later. Probably just hang onto Yakuza 0 and sell the rest of my games. Sadly I've got a pending trade I'm paying for next week for Nier Automata and DQ Heroes 1 and 2 for $55 that I won't have a system to play them on for quite a while lol

I did purge half of my DS collection but there are some worthy RPGs on DS. Having Chrono Trigger portable is awesome. I love the DS remake of FFIV. Then there are the DQ games, Yellow Brick Road which is a really good exclusive. And a handful of other less known personal favorites of mine. But then again I love RPGs and I love playing RPGs portable even more.

I understand where the $8 is coming from though. They probably have craptons of them already, a good portion of the ones that are tested as working end up being broken in some way and returned, they take up a lot of space and most people would trade it in with games and not notice that its so low for the console.

Heh it's not about fruitfulness for me. I know that there are a dozen or more Gen games I'll be buying eventually. And I'm a "if it had a hang tab, I must have a hangtab" guy. Having extras around allows me to bid on a mint everything except no hangtab. Instead of having to pass on that auction. Yes I realize I have a problem, but I embrace and love it. wry smile

Heh, I'm cheap. What I paid you for Ronin Warriors is the most I've ever paid for any one set (not that I'm complaining with the price, because it was awesome). I ended up getting the set of the first three new (hence the box) for $10 + shipping from the Macross web store. The rest I pieced together grabbing them off Amazon and eBay for somewhat reasonable prices. The one drawback of these discs is they crack easy as they were cheaply made and are single layer. I got a few with inner ring cracks, but I was able to replace all but one volume. I'd like to replace it but I couldn't find another copy of that volume online. It's not a huge deal, as I watched it already and everything played fine, I just have to be careful not to make it worse.

If you're trying on gametz and assuming correctly you're selling to the wrong crowd for "whatever reasons they deem appropriate" then there's your problem right there.

If I didn't have 1. Social anxiety

And/or

2. A strict sense of fair trade

I could probably move anything I currently have in my apartment (video game related or electronics and media related) within reason for more than I paid here or wherever else I got it. I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that in New York people can also sell ice to Eskimos just like in and or around bigger cities in California.

The main things if I were trying to sell for the same or more that I couldn't are broken or damaged items. But most things on gametz are really good and most people here give at least a gametz discount.

The cart only Genesis games you mention are actually really cool but you're trying to sell to an overly saturated and cheap audience here. Not to mention kinda snotty about other people's items. To say liking certain generic games or commons is the equivalent of commiting social nerd suicide here. Which I could care less about since I love normal common stuff and I buy cheap crap all the time that I love and will never be ashamed that I'm not snootier lol.

But seriously that stuff is great give it a few days and it will move. Cmon people love umk3 and lots of people also love fatal fury 2 at least.

If @Tad is still collecting Genesis he would probably grab these games. I know I'm interested in your cib garbage and cart only as well. Plus Genesis has great games for kids and my nephews would love one I'll bet. Not saying IM buying this stuff but it is really good stuff no matter what you heard lol.

What ever happened to forgotten freshness? He would buy the commons.

Mine just go to the local media store if they're commons and not in good enough condition to be selling. It's cool we have a local chain called bookmans here there's 3 locations in town that are all the size of a grocery store and sell books games cds dvds and instruments, and they have a constantly rotating stock of overpriced games, not stagnant like most game stores, but I usually use the credit to buy books. If one location won't buy the junk another will. I used to have a friend who worked there a few years ago and I would give him like a gram of herb and he would put in retarded amounts of credit for my trade and take all the broken stuff, it was great

Okay so on the Namcot thing. Seems to definitely just be a home division thing.

Also this anecdote: Quote

I recently met Masanobu Endo (the Xevious and Druaga guy) and had a chance to ask him about the meaning of "Namcot".

Apparently the name was chosen by Toru Iwatani and comes from "pet" and "mascot", giving the impression of something small you can keep at home (as opposed to the "big" arcade games).

Im in the epilogue chapter of Tokyo Xanadu headed to the true ending. About 68-69 hours in I'd guess.. game time says 71 but it runs on pause I am going to miss this game... I am saddened to finish it. Falcom hit a home run with this game it's great they brought it to PS4.. I hope more people get to experience it. The trophy percentages make me sad I hope more people play this game. It's def in my top 5 of the year and it could be my game of the year in other years that weren't so stacked with ridiculous rpgs like p5 and Nier.

If you like persona, jrpgs, Japan, falcom, action rpgs...this is what's up. There have been smiles and tears.. sometimes when I finish something I love this much it's like losing a friend. I enjoys characters that I actually care about. Even if some aspects of a game or anime are less than stellar if I care about the characters that will elevate it for me.

Well, @Lunar tossed Nier my way to balance a trade so I'll get to try that out soon.

I've been unsure about Tokyo Xanadu. Still haven't even bothered with P5 yet. I'm weird with JRPGs at this point. Sometimes I fire it up and just can't stop (Cold Steel) but just about everything else I've tried lately I couldn't get more than an hour in before wanting to play something else.

I don't really do much retro gaming because it's really hard to find those items locally... but since I was summoned here, I might as well ask: Does anyone need SCART (not RGB) cables? I got a bunch of cables a while back (a couple of SCART to S-Video, one SCART to SCART, and a SCART AV selector) and don't really have much use for them. Presumably, these can be modded for RGB.

Anyone interested?

So the switch specifies that it's composite over scart only?

Yes. It has three switchable SCART inputs and one SCART output; it also has two Composite (Yellow / Red / White) outputs, one for video and one for monitor. It's a Hama AV-100S

Thats a Tetris, it's not a matter of doing that, its a matter of doing that consistently and outlasting your opponent. Youtube the live streams of the top 8 its cray cray. I think its more of a feat than speedruns as I assume a lot of that is muscle memory

The weird thing is, the design flaws actually stood out to me as challenges after I realized how they expected it to be played.

Is there any specific versions of Tetris they play? Like the arcade game or on an old computer or Nes or something?

Long play sessions with the dogbone I actually cramp up. But the way I grip the OG controller it hurts when the way I play

Oh I am going to Oregon its $5 per attempt to qualify (score attack).Maybe I'll go to Austin to maybe get some experience and get an automatic qualifing spot.

I always loved Tetris since I was a kid but like you say it's different every time you play. I hope you can get into the top 64 this year, That would be awesome! I doubt I could ever get that good at a game myself. How long have you been playing to try to achieve this?

I haven't played or seen switch games in the real being played, but considering we all play retro games I'm sure the graphics are fine. If not way better than fine. After all the lengths some of you go to make 20 year old systems look their best on your setups I could only imagine switch games still look ten times better than most jaguar, n64 and sega cd games.

Again I'm not taking sides by saying switch graphics are perfect (especially having not seen any yet) but I'm sure they look really good.

Yeah, all of them. Some others might have cracked my list like Pokemon Yellow and Contra because it's my first time "beating" them but I've played Pokemon Blue and 30-lived Contra enough that it doesn't really count as my first time.

I'd say the only ones that are better than it are the other 2 parts of the story. It's much more complex compared to the previous games, but if you don't have a way of getting your hands on parts 2/3, and maybe the holy ark/the retranslation of part 1 much of it is going to appear meaningless to you.

You'd have to be cherry picking to say it only performs that well. So yeah, that seems like trolling raspberry

And you'd never get anything even remotely close to BOTW/Odyssey to run anything close to that well on the Vita. Or any other handheld. Those games are a feat for a portable system. You want to know who to blame for crapty ports and poor performance, point that fat digit at lazy/rushed third party developers; Nintendo's demonstrated fully that the console's got guts to do crap. Expecting it to be a portable PS4's completely unreasonable. I think you know that.

Nintendo locked out performance from their hardware. Maybe they know more tricks (very likely at a minimum) or simply unlocked some things for themselves it wouldn't shock me. But w/e the case we've seen this for multiple generations now. The 3DS is an embarrassment, there are PSP games that look better than a lot of 3DS games. Releasing underpowered consoles is what Nintendo does. They also make damn good first party games for them. Which means eventually I'm buying a Switch. No way that I am missing Mario Odyssey.

I mean, it's the first year the console's been out so suggesting they've locked out performance seems strange to me (it's a tablet, there's not a lot of architecture to lock out). Both id and Bethesda have demonstrated that third parties CAN get some performance out of the thing, and I think it's very likely that as time moves on the games will look and perform better and better. And lazy/rushed developers will continue to pump out poorly optimized software, undoubtedly. Ideally people will actually sit down with the hardware, figure out their limits and produce games with the system's spec ceiling actively in mind, instead of being an afterthought port target for their PS4/XBO projects.

This would be great, but it seems unlikely. When was the last time a Nintendo system had GOOD and consistent 3rd party support?

I'm looking at third party releases and I'm seeing a 7 year old PC game, 15 year old PC game, multiple 4+ year old console games etc... I know it's early. Looks like it got Fifa 18 and NBA 2k18. I wonder if these are the full game or stupid nerfed versions like what happened on the Wii. I'll be honest though I'm not really interested like I said it's not why I'm buying the Switch (and I am buying one eventually). I'd also never buy a Nintendo console to be my main platform for current gen gaming.

At the very least, it seems like it's already going to get more support than the Wii U.

Edit: Oh crap it has a physical Monopoly game. BRB buying Switch now.

I browsed "my matches" and I see there are some good matches for games on my want list in excellent shape. So my resolution is try to do what this website is for, and have fun using titles on my available list to get titles on my wanted list. Wish me luck!

Under President Iwata, Nintendo officially bowed out of the battle over raw power in the console wars, choosing instead to forge their own path, and I think we're better for it. At least we have a nice variety of games to go back and play, and hopefully more to look forward to. smile

Hey, there's a two year old PC/PS4/XBO game, and it's about to get a game less than a year old raspberry

@sailorneorune I know and Nintendo makes me happy. I like that their console offers a different, and often more colorful experience than the PC/WeakerPCSonyVer/WeakerPCMSVer trio.

Since we are tied at 10 votes each for Shining Force and Streets of Rage, I will use my vote as a tie breaker.

Sorry to disappoint our RPG enthusiasts, I am going with

Sega Genesis Streets of Rage

as Let's Play Together Game of the Month for January!

Seriously? It's an okay choice, but everyone here KNOWS Shining Force is a better game.

I get that it takes a long time but I also get why it takes a long time. It makes me sad that so many people cast votes against Shining force because they wanted to pass the game of the month in a couple of hours. That is just about the worst reason to vote for lets play together.

I'm finishing both this month but I haven't actively been looking for Streets of Rage. I still want a cart of it but if I can't find it soon I'll go for the compilation disc too.

Dude, we didn't vote Streets of Rage because it's faster or easier.
I voted it because I feel it's a better choice. I can finish 1,2,3 and I'll have a blast doing so.
Shining Force is a great game but I've got several RPGs that are retro I'm playing this month.

I personally love, Streets of Rage.

yes

Voting for Shining Force would have been like voting for Phantasy Star II. I can't believe it was so close. This is about trying to have as many people participate and finish as possible. Picking an RPG sounds cute until nobody finishes it and 90%+ don't even start or get more than an hour* in.

*More time than it takes to beat Streets of Rage.

Yes, some people did vote for Streets of Rage because it's shorter and they said as much in their posts. It's like voting for Trump over Hillary because Bernie wasn't the democratic nominee. Or because she was that much better of a choice but since shes a woman or a democrat (RPG) you find any reason NOT to vote for her despite knowing she is a much better candidate just to spite everyone else.

I'm not saying you can't or don't love Streets of Rage I've played through both the first Streets of Rage and Shining Force multiple times and it is okay. I would play Streets over Final Fight almost any day just based on graphics and character design (I do love Blaze from SOR 2 afterAll). But saying either Streets of Rage game (I haven't played the 3rd that I can remember) is better than either Shining Force game is just silly unless you literally can't stand RPGs or JRPGs or Strategy RPGs which I kinda totally would get. I still haven't given final fantasy a fair chance and played any one of them start to finish ..... Ever, and I have several of them at the house right now I could be playing.

While I admit I have WAY more time to play anything I want and have a somewhat unfair gaming advantage over most of you I was really ultimately hoping that Shining Force would win this month for people who have never played it. That is what I wanted, for new people to the thread and older members alike to play a game that is undeniably great and will make them want to play every entry in the series. I don't dislike Streets of Rage at all I just wanted more people to take Lets Play Together seriously and say wow I cannot wait to see what they pick next. That's not going to happen after people are done playing Streets of Rage, not even close.

So you can think my intentions were just to slander a game you guys like that I don't (I actually DO like Streets of Rage I just don't love it per se) but it's more about keeping people from saying crap about good games like Monster In My Pocket and PulseMan being voted game of the month all the time and giving them something to play that's pretty freakin epic and undeniably great.

Like how much discussion do you guys really think there will be this month about Streets of Rage? I want more people to participate not give them more reasons NOT to participate. I'm being totally serious. I'm not trolling or disrespecting anyone else's opinions I just don't know how to convey this any nicer.

I picked SoR for many reasons.

1. It's a great game. Good series.
2. I have been itching to play SoR since I beat Final Fight 1 last year.
3. It's VERY accessible.
4. People can move on to the sequels after finishing.

We can but I have a really fun idea for February and I think it will work I just gotta run it by some people and work out the kinks.

Plus DD didn't even suggest Shinobi which might have been better than Streets of Rage so I think the mentality is one and done. I will try for Shining Force 2 next time I bring it up though. 😊

Just tried to finish Pulse Man, ultimately died. I think I am at the last boss, or one form of him. I'll happily replay from the beginning though. Some areas are annoying but none of it is particularly difficult or dragged on.

I'll have another run at it and beat it before starting Streets of Rage.

PulseMan is definitely a game where you have to know "how" to beat a boss or you have unfair deaths. Also you don't HAVE to dash to have momentary invincibility. Just press your volt button while not charged up.

Hope that helps a little. I barely used it myself but it's a really cool little trick to use. It can keep you from taking damage a ton in that game. If you time it properly.

Yep, I personally voted for Streets of Rage because it's a game I played a ton in my childhood and haven't beaten as an adult. Yes, I love Shining Force, but it wasn't a game I wanted to play this month.

I made the case for why I thought we should give SoR a shot in a few posts, before it was even slimmed down to one or the other. This vote was never about which game is "Better", you can't even compare SoR to Shining Force, they're two completely incompatible genres. This wasn't a popularity post, it was a vote to see what game people wanted to play in January. I think you misunderstood the point of the vote. This has never been "X game is better than Y and now everyone has to play it".

Don't take it as an attack on Shining Force. Its honor remains intact and untarnished. This isn't Highlander, there can be more than one.

Know what I did when I got salty that Shadow Dancer didn't win last month? I said "You fudgeers", manned up and played through Pulseman.

Okay! I need the help of some like-minded video game enthusiasts. My brother-in-law came over and I decided to pull out the ol' unmodified NES Classic Edition. Unfortunately, it only took a few minutes of sitting on the floor before I came to the undeniable conclusion that something here needs to change. frown

I want to buy a couple of wireless Nintendo Entertainment System styled controllers that, aesthetically speaking, are as close as possible to the real deal and yet have as little lag as possible. Does such a thing exist? If so, what do y'all recommend? surprise

Any 'n' all help would be greatly appreciated! smile

What you see as being defensive I feel is just standing up for what I feel is right. I read your other post as well and again I never said Streets of Rage is terrible far from it.

For the PulseMan vote I feel like we didn't have enough votes anyways which was wrong on many levels. If more people had voted I might have never gotten to play that gem. On the other hand I think 7 people total even played PulseMan which was also a step in the wrong direction.

Let's play together has to be a popularity contest on some level because it's one of those things that will bring us all together to play and converse. It's one of my favorite things I've been a part of in 2017 and will continue to be so in 2018 regardless of votes. And I will try my best to get more people interested in retro gaming and this thread over the next year. Part of that was getting people into a game I KNOW they will love. So yes I defend that position and am totally happy I got more people involved I'm hoping we have even more votes for next month, and after all DD not everyone who votes for Lets Play Together even ends up playing the chosen game.

Even though I didn't vote for Shadow Dancer I'm still going to end up playing through it, maybe even this month. So while I didn't choose that game your point and your passion to get people to try that game wasn't for nothing at least one person (myself) is going to play this game because you recommended it. The weird thing is I will also end up passing both Streets of Rage games AND Shining Force this month when I get around to them. I'm going to be having a blast this month even without playing a new game I've never played before. But I still believe Shining Force would have really got people into retro gaming that might not be anymore.

Time will tell though and I still have some ideas I wanna run by @Lunar to get more participation in this magical thread 😊 As well as fun stuff to make it better even if no one new ever stops by πŸ˜‰

I don't think Shining Force is a game that gets people into retro gaming. Again, I think you're putting this up on a pedestal it doesn't belong, it's just us picking a game to play through, not everyone's gonna participate, that's life
