new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

It's a classic and was pretty much one of the first actual fantasy anime so it has that going for it. But it's also got a lot of problems. Bad story transitions being chief among them. Also the first 8 or so episodes are a lot better than the last few.

Now though? Give me Scrapped Princess

I KNOW IT'S ALSO SCI-FI

, El Hazard, Slayers or Rune Soldier. Come to think of it there isn't actually a lot of proper high fantasy anime out there so it probably is in my top 5 if almost by default.

On the topic of Sega CD I like the smaller footprint of the CDX, but I don't like feeling like I'm touching a rare artifact every time I use it for fear of breaking it and subsequently owing the taller half a couple hundred bucks. I also had no desire to construct the Leaning Tower of Pulseman to play it last month, so I played it on Nintendo Wii instead.

@sailorneorune Do you know if there has been any movement on getting Maison Ikkoku released? With Ranma being completely rereleased I am a bit hopeful. There is no chance I would pay what the later MI dvd sets go for...

I now have the first 3 Ranma sets on the way (brand new from a proper seller of course) and I'm looking forward to grabbing the rest.

If I was spending the scratch on a CDX I'd much rather get a x eye or any of those variants, at least with those you can do karaoke and video discs.

Nothing on MI yet, but the JP Blu-Rays just came out last month. Considering Warner Japan let Viz release Jojo's Bizarre Adventure over here with all of its potential music rights issues, and their resident miracle worker Char was able to snag Sailor Moon, anything's possible! smile

Good to know on the Japanese blus. I'd love to get US blus of it. Presumably they could do just 4 sets of it, that would be nice.

Have that one, actually. I've been putting more focus on the heavy hitters, so I think I have a lot of the ones north of $100. North of $1000... that's another story...

@ErickRPG I see one of them is gone, the other remains. Cardboard boxes just scare me more... I might actually prefer a cased version if one exists.

@Wheels617 Jewelcase version of which game?

Anyone know much about modded Nintendo GameCube? Picked up a pretty grimy lot today, mainly because I saw a CIB Eternal Darkness peaking out in the pics. Anyways, one of the 2 gamecubes is modded with a qoob pro chip. Only ever heard of the xeno. Google-fu leads me to believe this is a pretty decent chip.

DiamondDave sold me a badass Nintendo GameCube that's been modified to be copy-free 'n' region-free and output in HDMI. While the thing is a boss, I'm afraid to say I only know how to enjoy it and not much else about it. But, hit up DD 'cause I'm pretty sure he got it from someone else here who knows a thing or two about a Nintendo GameCube mod. smile

I personally love it because the music, and some of the anime scenes are pretty awesome. But if you don't like RPGs it won't make you love them.

@noid haha I feel honored you posted that face scrunching gif, thanks! smile

Does anyone think when they release more NES classics that 8bitdo will make a wireless NES controller? Or a wireless N64 controller for the much rumored N64 Classic? I'm hoping so. Would be pretty awesome to have those 3 systems hooked up and be able to play anywhere in the room with your handy wireless controller.

Is it the lackluster anime cutscenes? Because no other game had it.
Is it the voice acting? Because very few games had it.
Light-hearted good vs evil story? Bad ass villain? Generic guy named Alex everyone wanted to be? Hot girl named Luna/Althena?
Best music the industry has ever heard? Like every track is memorable?
Turned based combat too boring? Use AI

I could go on all day defending my home game.

Sometimes I replay an RPG solely for nostalgia (Wild Arms, Beyond the Beyond, FF7)

don't even say lackluster cutscenes even defending it. grrr

Dark Godess Song, Alex full awakening, Alex stepping into the light, Dyne stepping into the light. Chills. If only actual fantasy anime had scenes with music and emotion like that.

Oh I know you were sarcastic. I'm saying those scenes are so epic that even sarcastic comments are unworthy of their awesomeness. smile.

I sometimes boot up Lunar TSS just for the opening cutscene and kick ass song.

I just watched Luna's dark goddess song when she changed the chorus and get goose bumps.

You are talking about Sega CD right? I agree I love the town music tracks in that game better. And the intro is 80's goodness. smile But the PlayStation version to me has some goosebumps moments in a few of the anime cutscenes. Both versions are great for their own reasons.

Talks like this definitely make a guy nostalgic to replay Lunar.

Nostalgia alone though will not get me to finish a game.

I will be good this year and continue to play Celceta until completion.

I couldn't stop playing Celceta. I should really just get VIII soon and not care about the translation. It will help tide me over to Yakuza 6 and eventually RDR2.

I got through the translation. The only part that annoyed me was the little girl always calling everyone brother and sister. I know it's normal in Japan, but sounds ridiculous in English.

I actually have Ys VIII Day One I preordered that's still shrink wrapped. If you want to work out something for it, let me know.

I know I won't get to it this year.

100% should have went for this instead of Nier Automata. Not sure I have anything you'd want to trade for unless you are feeling like some anime, lol.
