new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Nope, I can't do that. Wouldn't be able to live with myself :p

On an unrelated note...I was thinking the other day as I was trying to catch up on about 3 pages of posts within the length of a few hours. Does it make sense to setup a discord server for the GTZ Retro Trading Community? It would seem that there are often many different threads of discussion occurring at the same time that it's hard to keep track.
Ex.
Working out a trade,
Posting new arrivals,
Talking about the Game of the Month,
General/OT discussion

Thought I'd pose it up as a question to the group. It was just something that had come to my mind when I was on my phone realizing "Damn...how much did I miss!"

lol, I'd hope we wouldn't need to ban many if at all :p

Part of the reason I figured I'd ask the question is that I'm pretty new to the group in general and as such I had the following thoughts:
A. I don't feel like it's my place to own it as the group was formed well before me and it should probably be controlled by the ones who built the community in the first place.
B. I think the frantic pace of this thread might overwhelm newer members from joining.

Part of the magic of the RTT is that everything happens here: oftentimes, all at once. Parcelling that out would, I believe, put an end to that magic. But, that's just my two cents. wink

Discord's gonna be hot and heavy too, we're all mouth breathers here. It's just open chat, nobody should be afraid to jump in whenever they've got something to say, it's not like anyone here would tell someone to shut up or anything, wer'e all looking for ways to inject our opinions.

I think the key here is if you get away for a day or something you must cast away the FOMO and just pick back up where it is lol. sometimes depending on what is going on I'll be the better part of day away and several pages have gone by and I just cant lol

Yea this. Sometimes if I worked the whole day, I'd periodically check on the thread. Throw in a random post or two.

But often times if I missed too much, I'd just skim or skip it, especially on the topics I have less interest in.

I don't know what the hell it is that's keeping us an ongoing thread for the past year and 4 months. Could be a bunch of things that somehow luckily worked together by chance.

Off the top of my head:

Exclusive good deals
Amazing rapport between RTT members
Knowledgeable collectors and collectards
Minimal drama/bullying
Monthly new content to keep us fresh

You could catch up and read all of the posts like you would with a backlog, or just skip it to the newest topic. All up to you without any sort of commitment or pressure.

I know we have a bunch of lurkers who just like to read and minimally participate, which is totally fine.

Those are fair points, I guess if anything I just see it as a better way to organize discussions. I don't have a great way to see things like just ongoing trades, or game of the month posts which could each have their own channels in that case.

I'm certainly not going to be able to keep up with all of it. That became very clear to me about 3 days into the new year >.>

Not my place to tell the community to change though, just thought I'd ask.

Yeah there isn't a regular user that posts here where I'm like ehhhh I wish they wouldn't or I skip over their posts. Which is not true of the site as a whole lol.

Keeping the bullcrap drama to an absolute minimum is nice too and I think it goes hand in hand with the userbase generally getting along.

Game of the month was a really cool idea even if I haven't ended up participating most months.

I'm so dumb for not playing SOR on Sega CD. The soundtrack is pretty sweet on Genesis though. Any different on SCD?
