new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I've got 2 Sega Saturn Stunners, 1 boxed or I might have been interested. Sega made pretty quality 1st party lightguns. I'm a bit curous what these look like though.
EDIT: Oh wow its like a Justifier clone, haha.

I wish, danmit don't make me stop checking this thread! I am on a 2017 no new game freeze (except for a few new releases already anticipated and pre-ordered)

Just to talk me off the ledge, tell me this has gone up way in price :P I've been thinking of grabbing it for a long time but actually rarely see it for sale around here

I was going to hook up the genny last night, but ultimately got sidetracked trying to get this MC Cthulhu cord crimped to get another project off my plate. Holy crap crimping rj45 is a nightmare, I am horrible at it. So frustrating! I was ready to crimp one for Saturn and NES as well, but it was already so frustrating I quit after finishing the SNES cable.

Having a quality arcade stick for SNES felt very weird, playing Gradius 3 and Super Street Fighter II on this thing is a revelation - frigging bad ass!

While full-fledged JRPGs and SRPGs are gonna be a hard pill to swallow for most people(I'm actually very surprised how close Shining Force got), I was thinking about an Action RPG...

Something that's Zelda-like?

Alundra 1 and 2
Beyond Oasis/Legend of Oasis
Shining Wisdom
Legend of Valkyrie
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

or even Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past should be a fun revisit.

You need to intersperse the sports games in with a couple decent commons. Put a NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon, and Virtua Cop 2 in that lot, then you can try to Jedi mind trick people into thinking "There are 9 games... and some of them are good!". No one wants a console bundle with 0 games they're going to play.

Then they can actually play Panzer Dragoon and will have enough shining white sports cases to put in the blurry background of their Instagram photos so they can say "Why yes, I do have have some Sega Saturn games". A win for gameplay and "shelf candy".

The main reason I would maybe get behind snes Zelda is because so many people here have an snes classic so they have a legitimate copy of it already. I do like it as well despite not liking it when I was younger. (Of course I'm basing this opinion on my gba copy of it which is probably a little different)

Plus most of the ladies I know that are gamers LOVE Zelda games. Especially this one.

It's a no brainer after Mega Man X. If it were easier for most of us to play pc engine games I would go for a cute little witch shooter 😊

But for February I'm really hoping for something with a theme.

I'm leaning Ys 3 or LTTP. I'd hate to vote on both because I wanna play 'em both.

Looks like LTTP is a pretty strong contender given how strong the support is for it. As for the other choice...hmm Ys 3 is pretty appropriate but I don't think its gonna win vs LTTP.

Nah. I'd probably vote LTTP.

Actually I just got a digital copy of this that I still need to download so I'm kind of in the same boat especially since I fully still intend to finish the gba version as well.

But if I can make excuses to finish the first two streets of rage games in the same month, playing two different versions of the same Zelda game concurrently is a much easier proposition.

Of course Kirby on snes classic still makes more sense to me for February. You know in case anybody else has other suggestions for something to go against Kirby besides Zelda.

Maybe Kirby snes classic vs Zelda snes classic?

@Lunar I had a big long response to you. But I'll sum it up this way. Earthbound mint complete is $1000, and the SNES classic feels really legit.

You were probably one of the purest collectors, but welcome to the dark side.

I like the idea of switching the system up; SNES and Genesis have gotten so much love already!

I'm still with NEC TurboGrafx-16/NEC PC Engine hopes and will say
NEC TurboGrafx-16 Exile
NEC TurboGrafx-16 Neutopia
NEC PC Engine Valkyrie No Densetsu
NEC TurboGrafx-16 Ys III

I'd also be down for Sega Master System
Sega Master System Golden Axe Warrior
Sega Master System Golvellius: Valley of Doom

I've not played a GOTM for Nintendo Entertainment System yet either
Nintendo Entertainment System Crystalis
Nintendo Entertainment System Battle of Olympus
Nintendo Entertainment System Faxanadu
Nintendo Entertainment System StarTropics

I know it seems crazy but you don't have to get a big box Earthbound just because you collect games, or even RPGs. I've held off on even buying a Chrono Trigger cart and it's one of my favorite games ever. It's just too expensive for what it's worth and how common it is. Is there any $1000 video game with a dozen freakin' copies for sale at all times like Earthbound?

I think these picks are dope a rope as Lunar can attest is a phrase we definitely say on Long Island.

ErickRPG best no. It's not like I'm even selling 1/3 of my collection. I'm just purging some system that I only want like 8 games for. And I plan to beef up my PSOne and Genesis collection with that money. So I'm just kind of switching my collection around a bit. Not really leaving my mint collector mindset.

Alundra is like twice as long as Vanguard Bandits. Just saaaaying.
