new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Were they located outside of the US?

Global Shipping Program doesn't let you combine shipping.

SoR2 down. Switched to Axel, omg. Blaze might as well be Dan. There's no roadblock bosses in this game and the fighting system has more depth, so that's fun.

Phenomenally well made game. I thought I would still prefer SoR because of nostalgia but this is definitely a lot better in every way (except you can't jump one way then kick the other way like in SoR).

Japan but none of these sellers use the GSP thankfully. HJ combines automatically.

Good job on completing the challenge! You get the Golden Genesis gamepad flair to put on your Shenanigans apron

After beating the first one a couple times, the second one felt hollow and simple to me. I can't really explain it, I did not like it at all anymore. Like, it wasn't PAINFUL to play, but I'm always like "Rather be playing SoR1"

Trying to do a conversion here... anyone in the market for a region-modded PCE Coregrafx with controller, AV cord and third party adapter for $80? Got an SNES Classic I'd let go for the same, aaaaaaand... Streets of Rage (Boxed no manual) and Captain America and the Avengers (boxed with manual) I could let go for $40?

"You can not fix it. Resurfacing will not fix it. Trying to repair the crack will not fix it. If you want to play the game, you can not. I am including the disc in case there is some collector with very low standards who does not mind a broken copy of the game or despite me saying at least 4 times you cannot fix it, still thinks they can fix it. You go, broken disc guy."

I just listed my first eBay auction in...quite awhile, actually. I got a message from eBay stating that if I list an auction by tonight that sells for at least twenty bucks, they'll match it with twenty eBay bucks. So, I scrounged up some junk here that I didn't want and hoped it'll all sell as a bundle for a cool, cool Jackson. What do y'all think? Do I have a snowball's chance in heck that this'll work?! surprise

It's all good I was so in love with SMB3 when it came out. Its not like I don't still love it and have so many great memories of it. The colors and music are both great gameplay in both is great! It's totally just personal preference.

The only thing about SMB3 that seems not AS good that stands out (very little to me mind you, but still) is the bosses are too similar to one another. Not because they all attack the same way just character design I guess. Again it's a very small distinction for me. They're both amazing to me though even today. Two of the best games ever!

I didn't say I thought you hated games. I asked if you even liked games anymore, lol. Like @Lunar posted a couple times on here recently I think we all become disillusioned with what makes games fun for us.

Also it was the Dragon Warrior stuff that finally made me question if you still liked games. I "kind of" get why PulseMan isn't your thing. But again after playing it extensively I really got into it. You beat it in one night, so we definitely didn't have the same experience with it.

Yes I do think you think it will work and did some a hole literally bid a penny on it?

Was that just so you couldn't put a buy it now price on it later or pull the auction down?

Ugh! Was it a gametz cheap AF lurker?!?

Edit: nevermind I went back and realized that the $0.01 was just the opening bid d'oh!

At first I was just making the achievement icons for fun but now I think I will tie them into the voting system.

Everyone gets (1) vote.

If you have main monthly icon, your vote will count as (2) instead.

If you have main + bonus icons, your vote will count as (3) instead.

I like that, it will give people incentives to actually "Play together" as opposed to just saying okay I'm going to vote for this game just to make other people play it.

You should list it in a different category like video game consoles as for parts or not working

Well nobody likes grinding if the game isn't fun. But the fights in Dragon Warrior are over so quickly. I always loved the fast pace of that. Before I gave it to my brother with the retron 1 a few months ago I could play DW1 or Ninja Gaiden 1 or Castlevania 1 for a little bit of fun at a time. I sent him all three of those games ..... And now I will need to buy another copy of each lol.

But if you're trying to beat Dragon Warrior or almost any older RPG in one sitting of course you'll get frustrated. I play for an hour or two at a time and enjoy it. If you try to slog through any game it will suck. That's why I'm waiting to finish a different game this month before I start Streets of Rage. I don't want to make myself hate it I'm trying to be as positive as possible and give it every chance to surprise me after all these years.

You know, despite my outward objections in this thread to it. I'm still going to play it with an open mind for sure.

You lose a tangible amount of your life waiting for battles to load and then loading the area again after. I'm just very much not a fan of random battles anymore.

Watch Cowboy Bebop on your iPad while playing JRPGs, problem solved!

Yeah, Dragon Warrior is a real watch TV while you play type of game. When I play a game, I'm looking to play a game usually.

Well I watched that recently, so it would probably be Zeta Gundam or Ranma. But I mean, if a game makes me want to watch something while I'm playing it, doesn't that just mean the game isn't entertaining me?

Crazy talk.

But yeah good games suck you in. Earlier when I was playing Witcher 2 I looked up at the clock and saw 2 and a half hours had passed since I last checked and I was like, oh, okay then it's getting pretty late.

I booted up SoR3 in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and lost a credit before the end of the first stage. This game really wanted you to have the arcade beat 'em up experience huh? It's super fast too.

According to the manual there's no forward-forward-B attack to spam this time around either. There are many pages of Sega Activator controls though, lol. (Edit: Maybe there is but it's harder to pull off actually).

Question of the day. XBox One X NISB for $300 and Elite Controller. Sounds good right?

Yea, Elite controller is overpriced. Either way, a new XBOX (XBox One X, lol, just realized it spelled Xbox again) for about $400 and only $300 out of pocket is fine.

When I'm playing video games that aren't on my phone I'm literally running swagbucks videos in the background on my phone so even in a high intensity action platformer like ninja gaiden I'm earning tiny amounts of ecredits which is even easier in dragon warrior.

So every 45 seconds or so I'm actually pressing the next video on my phone. I'm not totally just wasting time playing games. Not that I think playing games for fun or a challenge or just to wind down IS a waste of time. But I like doing both at the same time.

Streets of Rage 3 just isn't happening. I get the need for very difficult games. It's what I want in a platformer or rhythm game, but I really can't hack it with the big boys here. The Stage 2 boss is the twins and they're way harder than they are in SoR1. This is one of those seriously dedicate yourself to it because you're not getting any more Sega games until Christmas kind of games. I don't have the nostalgia of SoR1 or goodness and cheese-ability of SoR2 to pull me through. Also Yuzo Koshiro must have had a stroke because the music sucks.

And I don't want any crap from you BleedingViolet on giving up so quickly on this. I powered through SoR1. That was my triumph for the month raspberry

Definitely going back to it, my high thoughts were mostly nostalgia. Another thing is, even though Odyssey is a really good game. I did not go absolutely bonkers for it like I did NSMBU. I also went absolutely bonkers for Mario 3D Land (the 3D, the quick fun levels, the tight level design).

I love the xbox one elite controller, im glad sony hasn't made one, because I would just want it lol. its the best controller ive ever used probably. however I didn't pay full price for it, got it in a trade, wouldn't have paid full retail. maybe if I was a pro competitive player and needed it for that job.

It was very experimental. It has its moments but largely seems to be a collection of bizarre tracks without any cohesive themes to pull them together. Definitely sprinted away from the pop synth he'd done before, probably because by SoR2 he was sick of making the same songs over and over again.

Items up for sale, @Gypsy a lot of the sets you were looking at are also up. Shave 15% off individual stuff you want from shipped prices (check listings for shipped prices), or if anyone's interested in the whole kaboodle, I could let it go for $150.

Maaaan. I really can't though. I want to get a good amp for these speakers soon, plus a new video card when they come out. So I have to try to keep my piddling to a minimum. If I hadn't grabbed a couple things here lately I would have went for getting Gundam back.

That Core Grafx is gonna fly off eBay at that price imo.

heres an interesting one, whats the most well known system you've never played a game on, it can even be just trying it on a demo kiosk, its not necessarily what you've never owned, its what you've never touched in any way.

I thiiiink for me, that miiiight be Sega Master System ..I dont recall ever trying one at a funcoland or instore kiosk, but that doesn't mean I didn't, by the time I was starting to be able to handle a control pad in the late 80s Nintendo Entertainment System NES was the only game in town, and we had an Atari already. I know I tried bonks adventure on a NEC TurboGrafx-16 somewhere, and even 3DO and Atari Jaguar at circuit city type places. I had a CD-i (Compact Disc Interactive) even.
