new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Meh, I don't really need that as I don't do FPS or the latest MMORPG stuff. Factorio looks great at 60Hz. :)

Do you have an AMD video card? Don't get Freesync monitors if you don't, and don't get Gsync monitors if you do. 240hz refresh rate's a bit overkill imo, you'll probably never be playing anything that runs it, and you literally can't tell the difference between 144 and 240 with the human eye.

You could probably get a comparable TN 144hz 1080p display for half that though.

I'm going to assume that non-standard means not in a jewel case. In that case, no, I don't have any. Of course, I only own 33 games for it. I want to say I remember the Japanese special edition of Grandia 2 (sold because I have the US version) was in a digipack case with slipcover?

Yea, I have SAPPHIRE DUAL-X 100373L Radeon R9 280, but yea, I save at least $100 if I just go 144

If you're not playing games running at 200+ fps, it's a waste to buy a 240hz monitor. Honestly it is even if you are.

That Alienware monitor literally has a $100 tax for the Alienware name. $200's the most you should ever pay for a 144hz monitor.

I'd been waiting for this one to come down so I grabbed it. I hope they fixed the voices or the Japanese is an option...the first trailer was tod2/cross edge level bad. Real bad. Like they just had their kids do it instead of even semi pro VA's.

Earlier I think playying asked about things you cant use or just have for collectarding. The only physical psp game I have is crisis core but don't have a psp..but can play digitally if I ever want to play again ...(or on ppsspp because psp games at 5x resolution is sweet). I also have a launch Dreamcast but didn't keep any games for it. Loved the system but most of that is same story..emu'd and upscaled is great. Also don't keep a crt hooked up, wouldn't have room to.

Thanks for posting that monitor dd I've been thinking about getting one that price for that performance looks pretty nice.

Alienware tax is very real.

Yeah. Most of them are late release visual novels. But also games like Triggerheart Exelica and Cosmic Smash.

This one I linked earlier is 204. AOC makes good monitors. But you may want to wait a bit after CES to let old models go cheap

I may grab that aoc for 204 if it's drill available next week..when I got my new PC I got a cheaper 89 dollar how monitor that I can use as a second monitor and play on the 144. I got the cheapy monitor so I could spend a little more at the time on the PC, but I think it's holding the OC back from looking as good as it could. It's still ips though so not total junk.

Ya gypsy I grabbed the PS4 version. It comes with a real book too. Weird to think that now that's a strange thing.

US Super Mario 2 is still better than the other three SMB titles but SMB 3 is still really good. And I love SMW because of my ex. Actually sharing games with significant others and really tight homegirls is always a different and better experience.

I would recommend that to anyone here.

Um no, that negates any ladies votes that never wanted to play Streets of Rage in the first place. How is that fair?

This makes me a little sad that out of the three hardcore competitive fighting gamers (that I imagine are all pretty good) all three of us main a different series.

@Lunar: Street Fighter
@tonymack21: Tekken
@BleedingViolet: Mortal Kombat (My Mileena is pretty high level in Mortal Kombat 9 though)

Imagine if we played the same games?

Dang I just sat down to play streets of rage and my genesis isn't putting out video :( I hooked it up directly to tv, no luck. Sound, but no video. I am going to disconnect the 32x and see if that's the issue but frustrating cause it worked fine last time I used it in late 2017

Edit: yeah, without the 32x it works fine maybe the psu?

SMB 3 is an all time classic and the best NES game ever made. It is not even in the same universe as US Mario 2.

32x or it's psu seems bad will have to do further testing with it and all of the model 2 madness it requires later. For now I am raging in the street without it. Level 2 boss was first thing to take any lives, he killed me twice

I have an extra model 2 psu I can sell if you end up needing one.

Danm got a game over on the last boss :( frigging hard beating the fire breath and claw bosses without police backup

Any tips on fighting those two? They shaved off a bunch of lives.

I hit the final boss a bunch of times, but didn't seem to do any damage

You have to go at the claw boss from above and grab him or do regular attacks. Don't jump at him that doesn't work. Approaching him in a straight line will result in pain too.

Fat guy, best bet is to swing at him from behind when he's charging, be down if he's up and up if he's down, and he can't hit you

This is meant for March, since people are still playing SoR and voting for February is taken place before the end of the month.

Makes sense?

I had a little bit of ebay bucks so I bought Fatal Rewind for Genesis for 5.79 after my ebay bucks. Looks like a cool game, should be fun.

Lol nice try 😆 I loved SMB 3 and you are wrong.

Not only is SMB 2 in the same universe it's better in every way. Also lol at SMB3 being the best Nes game ever. It's one of the best probably even top 10 but not number 1.
