new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Ahh I thought you were drawing them, who's drawing them/made the png?

I can help out if need be, but can't give a ETA on availability to do the tasks, and have to demand double vote value for each platform I make GTZ Icons for ;)

18x18 pixel art requires more creativity than I have.

Really? One of the reason I use the AVS is that I can use a Four Score with it, but can't on my Nt. Although no one needs to use a NES Advantage for anything because it's a garbage stick. Also my Power Pad doesn't fully work with an extension cable frown It would be convenient if it did.

Not bad for a CIB repro with brand new battery. $35 shipped each. I don't mind a few repros if the price is cheap enough. SNES repros cost $60 at the LOW end.

I have Langrisser II as well actually, except it's a retail copy.

Back in the days when I used to walk uphill both ways to and from school in a blizzard every day and was all gung ho about games I played through 2-5 all on the Saturn with printed off translation guides that I stapled together.

It's been so long I can't remember specifics. Since you liked the first one I think you'd like them though. I had no real complaints at the time. I believe 3 has a translation patch now.

really? I'll google it bc romhacking doesn't list it. I think 4 for PS1 was patched. I'd def want to play Translated versions. Thanks for the input, I'll look into it!

We're about to hit Steam shovelware levels of NES homebrew baby. Bring on the low effort RPG Maker/Unity games. But I imagine we'll get some pretty cool stuff too.

Yeah cheap repros are great, gba is anyways, wouldn't buy one for a normal game, but a FE romhack for 10 bucks? Sure.

Also lol R3R3 D1SC0NT1NU3D repro cart for 200 bucks guies!!!!

since it was mentioned, I did sell my Jaguar bundle semi-locally through a FB group several months back. Dunno how much they run now but my little bundle went for around 250 after shipping (so about 225). That was CIB though.

That title design was made by a friend of mine. He technically owns the copyright to it. I wish he didn't live in Europe so he could DMCA the crap out of these carts.

I'm holding off. I'll see what it's like when it's a finished product. Right now it doesn't even have sound as far as I can tell. It might be neat to toy around with one day, but I can't even make a good Super Mario Maker level honestly. I'm 100x more interested in the games other people make with it.

Yea, this is like RPG Maker all over again. It's a novel concept and it's all montages in my head...when you actually get down to make the nitty gritty...I got jackcrap.

Yeah. I dicked around a bit with the NWN toolset back in the day but I could never be bothered to put in all the work required to actually make an adventure.

I got a reality check: just because you like playing games, doesn't mean you can make games

Yep.

I know nobody gives a crap and think it's sacrilege that the GTX 1080's being used for it, but all my League games are going rather well. I main support so usually I have to drag 4 other people flaming each other kicking and screaming to the finish line but we get it done more often than we don't

Yep. At least in the case of NWN the toolset is just something included with the game. Thankfully I never bought RPG maker.

I like supporting good toolsets that make good games. Undertale was a GMS project for instance

I wish I could find my old RPG Maker games. I put a ton of work into one of them. It's probably an unbalanced 3 hour trip through the stock asset caves of doom, but the dialogue might be fun and cringey.

Exactly what do you call those? They're not really reproductions 'cause they never received an English localization. I guess you'd call 'em fan localizations. Either way, they're definitely purdy. yes

100% reproductions, bootlegs if you will. Don't hide behind it, hoist that flag up proudly!

For those interested in its final outcome, this Super NES Classic Edition (Super Nintendo) here actually sold for LESS than its original "Buy It Now" price of USD $85.00. That's right! After placing a bid to intentionally remove it's auction-ending power, this eBay item ended at exactly USD $79.50 and that includes its shipping cost. So, I actually helped someone save five bucks! You're welcome, Internet!! grin

Long as you spend more time playing the games than you do taking pictures of the games (I'd prefer zero pictures but I'll take what I can get) your hobby's your hobby and your money's your money, do what you will with it.

When that scale tips to the other end of masturbatory photography versus gamesmanship, that's when I get tilted.
