new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

The monitor pros are the ones who put the word "game" on a cheap display and sold it for over $200, lol. I can see the appeal of those Xbox briefcase setups if I was a pro wrestler always on the road though. (But even then, for the insane bulk, I'd just use a gaming laptop).

I don't play enough N64 to warrant it...buying wise. If I could convince someone to trade it that's a different story. Also RGB modded N64s are $100ish, so that's a different route you can go.

Maybe it's the Earthbound effect where everyone can see those beautiful blue cases standing out on people's shelves and they're like "Dayuuum I want sexy blue cases on my shelf".

At least Earthbound doesn't have a tendency to shatter if you breath on it! I am eagerly awaiting release of those supposed replacement Sega CD and Saturn cases. Prices softened a bit around the holidays but are starting to rise again on the cream of the crop.

I watched a movie on Amazon Prime called Nintendo Quest, it was alright it told the story of a guy and his buddy looking for all the released nintendo games. It was disjointed in some spots and would have like to know at least what he spent here and there. I would like to go to some shops and find games just kinda hard to get around.

It's probably the worst video game movie I've ever seen, and I saw Doom in theaters. It's just some random guy who goes around buying Nintendo games and checking them off. There's no prices, history, or even real personality. It's just 90 minutes of a guy blowing like $30,000. The majority of NES Youtube videos are more entertaining IMO, even the "Guy holds up pickups in front of a shelf of games" shows.

I need you to tell me how you really feel lol

I know, the whole part about his father and just having a bar on the side that went up or down when he spent was annoying haha

I had a similar thought...

And yeah I'm glad I have the three games I really want to own for it, lol.

Snatcher is insanely awesome but fudge what it goes for. Whenever my bank account is done bleeding out I'll probably get the PCE version like the dirty shelf whore I am.

Sega CD is in this weird space where it has mostly garbage but also the only US localization of some really good multiplatform Japanese titles.

@Lunar I heard you like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

So it's unplayable trash as expected. But wow just wow. $100 version of a $5 console and it's WORSE.

Did they like forget to remove the plastic film on the screen or something?

People are going to buy this and go "Damn, Hyperkin disappointed me again" then wait to buy the next Hyperkin thing.

I'm wondering about the source of this as well. You almost have to try to find a screen this bad now.

Umm... eww? That's definitely not worth $100. I'll also throw out there as a reminder: MSRP of the original Game Boy was $89.99 at release. And it came with a game, headphones, and other various cables. Almost 30 years later, we get this thing for more money with less extra stuff and lower quality. Yeah... no thanks.

They probably spent a lot of effort sourcing a blurry, low contrast, correct aspect ratio screen for the purists, then they threw it into an emulator console with metal case, rechargable battery, and nothing else "authentic" about it and made a product for nobody.

They should've made a GB Boy Colour with a correct aspect ratio screen. Sell it for $50. It would sell gangbusters.

So I bought one of these to get something fast for testing. I am going to put it up for sale for less here once I am done with it and have something better.

Yeah, big time FeelsBadMan. But I don't want to wait to properly test out these speakers. For a preamp that is actually good I'm eyeballing an auction on eBay and a listing in Canada on an audio hobbyist site. I tried to get the auction guy to add a bin for more but he wouldn't bite. Joke will be on him if I end up winning the auction for less...

I think the general consensus amongst the group is that humble monthly isn't really that great. but this current rounds instant unlock is Civilization 6, with 2 dlc packs. you get that for your 12 bucks plus whatever bonus stuff comes in the February monthly.

I have a year of Humble Monthly, I like it

Though ever since the IGN acquisition, bundles have been meh, and there have been more books/comics bundles

oh ya I forgot someone bought them, I have noticed less bundles lately.

is it still if you buy 12 months worth its actually credits and so if you have most of or don't care about a certain month you can just skip and not use one of your creds?

Ever since my wife stole my MacBook Air, I have been using a Surface Pro 4(i5/8GB/256GB), but I find myself not using it much at all.

Most of the time, I need a laptop with proper keyboard. While the SP4 keyboard is pretty darn good, keeping a super expensive laptop is such a waste.

So I may have a huge trade coming up, I will post the spoils once it's confirmed.

For tablet, I am mainly using ASUS ZenPad 10.1, it's a cheap iPad. I mostly use it to read PDFs, books, and some light browsing so I am quite happy with it.

I use a Macbook Air and iPad (mostly the iPad unless I need to do one of the million things an iPad can't do because it's not a real computer). I don't like Mac OS but Apple hardware is consistently super nice.
