new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Is that an HDMI Super Nintendo or something? If so, I hope it's by retroUSB. If not, I may keep holding my breath that he eventually caves in and gives the masses what they want...nay, what they need! wink

Edit: Analogue?! frown

Yeah it's a really fancy SNES made by a guy that does in fact know what he is doing.

I bought it from DD, not using it much. More like, haven't had much of a chance to use it.

Wait...does that imply that the guy behind retroUSB does, in fact, not know what he's doing?! surprise

That 8bitdo wireless controller for the SNES Classic was pretty fudging solid. Very very low latency, unnoticeable latency, great feel. Way better than most of their efforts.

Waiting to see if they make the multi-console powerhouse like the Nt Mini. I'll buy in when they have a console that takes original carts and controllers for vintage platforms and doesn't have the stupid aluminum block case. If they want to keep printing money, I imagine they're going to get there eventually.

@Noid Well the AVS isn't as good as the NT from what I've heard. Haven't tried em first hand though, too expensive for me when my old consoles work.

All these replacement consoles and costs would make a hell of a lot more sense if the original hardware wasn't only still working fine and easy to find, but lasted longer. I've heard some crap about the NT systems.

It's realllly hard to kill a SNES or an original PCE/Core Grafx. Like...you'd have to try. Toasters have the pins wear out, but blw fixes that right up.

I'll definitely concur that most cartridge-based home consoles, particularly those made by Nintendo Entertainment System, are a brick house. They're mighty mighty and lettin' it all hang out. wink

Now, how bad of a collectard am I if I just bought -- and I mean just bought -- a Super Nintendo cartridge off eBay and am already checking out auctions for its Game Boy Advance equivalent? frown

If you are going to not do the original hardware + original carts anyway, then Super Nintendo Classic is a better choice. It has a great interface and the controllers are superior to the original.

The Gamecube is a BEAST too. A friend of mine back in the day had one that went through a war zone or something. Had to keep the lid in place by having something on top of it. Worked like a champ though.

It's okay man. One of the movies I bought from @Foxhack auction I already had and this wouldn't be the first time I've bought a double. Hell I still need to send one of my extra Indiana Jones trilogy sets for @BleedingViolet :)

Man it had been a whole 3 hours since ErickRPG had talked about the SNES Classic too.

The Super NT and the SNES Classic are inherently different things.

It's okay I still haven't gotten together anything good to send you yet. I haven't been doing much lately. I've been trying to sleep more because I've been losing track of things I need to take care of. So no worries. There's been a couple of things I've been meaning to send to people here too and I don't even have money for it because I've been forgetting stuff.

Idk about how good gamecubes work over long periods of time I got one that doesn't read discs at all 😞

But it's all good.

5 hours, don't sell me short man. All I'm sayin is if I want to play the real carts I'd rather do it on the real SNES. Better get ready cause I'm gonna be talkin about the NES classic and N64 classic a bunch too.

On the SNES Classic versus the retarded Analog SuperRipoff. I bet they think they're doing you a real service by lowering the price by hundreds of dollars for this iteration.

Please don't call those atrocities fan localizations. The creators want nothing to do with that cart selling bullcrap.

If it was never commercially produced over here to begin with, it can't be a reproduction. For example, a pirated cartridge of EarthBound (Super Nintendo) can be called a reproduction 'cause it legitimately received an English production run here in the USA. But, a pirated cartridge of Seiken Densetsu 3 (Super Famicom) with a fan-made English translation patch can't be called a reproduction 'cause it never received an English production run here in the USA.

Right now, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this practice. But, I am saying I disagree with its classification. Reproductions can deceive potential buyers while fan localizations can deceive only ill-informed potential buyers.

You thought about this subject way too much. It's a repro because they went out of their way to design the stupid thing to look as close to a real SNES cart as possible. Whereas a bootleg is usually just chinese bootleggers not giving a fudge.

No matter how you rationalize your decision, you're still paying a frigton of money for what is essentially a $5 Chinese bootleg with glossy labels.

I'm not too sure what that mental breakdown, or the associated selfie is about, but i'll just say this and be done with it. The only reason i picked up any of those to begin with is because GBA flash carts are/were just garbage. I ended up wasting far more money in buying what amounted to a USB killer for my GBA, a Compact flash card, and ultimately the replacement parts to a SP-101 than it did to just buy a few ~$10 bootlegs of my favorite romhacks on ebay and be done with it.

I'm not going to lie, I love my AVS. NT doesn't have the same draw to me.

Big difference between the NT and the NT mini, the NT is just a repurposed NES internals IIRC. The NT mini is a impressive FPGA , that you can play ROMs from other systems.

IMHO The AVS is the perfect blend of the the NT mini and original hardware. It also does have scoreboard capabilities, if you jump through a couple hoops.

Boy if the NT Mini could have modules and accept real controllers from various systems, it would be teh BAWM.

I've got a fever and the only cure is more Witcher 2. The game has two main routes so I'm actually encountering some stuff I haven't seen before.
