new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Well it's like @Lunar has been saying there's a few different places to download it if you want to play it with everyone this month.

But I get why rebuying it feels weird when you were just able to play it right before this month.

I don't know how familiar with or comfortable you are with emulation.

But I will say... Ootake is a very cool program. I like it a lot.

Hm. I'm about $230 away from finishing my Intel build, my Core i5 8600K's sitting on my tower as we speak, and I'm looking to snag an Aorus Gaming 7 board since it looks like it's got some solid VRM performance. Basically roommate needs to pick up a couple 8GB DDR4 sticks once I've got the motherboard in hand and we're off to the races. I will officially be caught up. After 25 years of being behind.

Very familiar, but it's not as fun :p
Though the super system SD is emulation after all, just at a hardware level ;)

Likely not the way you're thinking. The hardware's spoofing other hardware operations probably though FPGA; at a base hardware level, your PC Engine's still doing all the heavy lifting, it's just that the instructions the PCE is receiving from the SSD is synthesized instead of being, you know, real. Bottom line, if we're picturing PCE emulation on a PC, and this optical drive replacement, they're doing two very different things in very different ways. This thing isn't so much "emulating" a disc drive as it is replacing it. It's probably streaming data to the PCE imperceptibly similarly to actual hardware, with all the benefits of not having to read from an actual optical drive, so you get fun stuff like decreased or eliminated load delays.

When it's finished:

Intel i5 8600K (6 cores, OC to 4.8GHz with z370 Aorus Gaming 7, hopefully!)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
16GB DDR4 3200-3900mhz, depending on what brand I settle on (whichever one fudges me least in the wallet)

I have a PS4 basically for Uncharted and Yakuza, which I am fine with. Other games I get are just a bonus. At some point I definitely want to pick up those Asian SRW games though, crap translation and all.

Sega Saturn and NEC Super CD-ROM 2 might still be "good enough" but the others yeah should be totally fine.

Yeah, I know. Same concept that's in some arcade hardware multi-boards (the good ones), and flashcart/everdrives. We're going to definitely need more optical drive emulation solutions in the future. That's why I also have a USB GDROM for my DC, PSIO for my PS1, and on the patreon for professor abrasive!

Hardware level emulation is the future for console preservation in my opinion and I'm a big supporter! That's not to say I'm not doing my damnedest to keep my old consoles healthy though... I should probably give my FDS another play again soon and see if it's still happy >.>

Upscaling wise I am down to just OSSC and some trusty component cables.

As for systems, I'll have to do some deep dive soul searching to see if I am ready to ditch more.

If you replace a busted ass Sega case with a fakey fake repro one you might as well be using these PC emulators everyone is talking about.

I'm just kidding, I want to be part of the conversation and I've been away all day

eBay exists in a vacuum.

Speaking of Ebay, $15 off $75 should be any day now. I gotta get Um Jammer Lammy.

Cool, I can pay above market value for MUSHA on a forum deal, just what I've been looking for.

I want this dude to price his stuff: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid...

So much homebrew, foreign, pirate, and Atari stuff but I don't play the offer game.

I don't like it when I ask for a price and guy goes: "make an offer" or "what's the most you'll pay"

But you gotta ask to get an butt-hole answer

As if that's not already on my watch list. I just can't shell out $40 for a game for a console I don't have. And I can't drum up an ounce of care for Lynx, and I bought Game Gear games last week. It looks like a good version of the game besides the music though.

I'd say those are low-mid tier Ghibli. Of course, that said, low Ghibli is still better than a LOT of other series. And that price is fantastic for the singles. I was going to recommend the lovely BR Ghibli boxset, but it's gone OOP, and has become quite scarce. (The only seller with one on Amazon wants over $1000 for it.)

I was selling them for $15 shipped. Just checking for any folks that are interested before I toss them on eBay.

Did I miss something? I notice the covers no longer say Disney Presents...did their license expire? Still the Disney dub for Totoro though.
