new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I see. You are much more of a collector than I am. I still have my collector tendencies though (must be MINT!). But I'm trying to streamline my shelves as far as giving me the gaming experiences I want. I feel better with something more managable. I just want that authentic experience. So as long as SNES classic gives me that authentic experience. I do not mind not having a $100+ RPGs on my shelf. But I think if I had just ONE hobby, and a bit more money. I'd just keep all of those games on my shelf! Make sure you play that Star Control II soon! It's a beauty and deserves to be played!!!! cool smile

I did start it(not really). I had the game ready to go and then I saw there is a patch for Japanese audio, I downloaded it then trade the PS4 to @Gypsy.
Got a Slim from @DiamondDave, and the PS4 hasn't been used much since I bought SFV on steam.

I keep hear that P5 is the crap from @tonymack21, I have the game just gotta find a motivation to START it.

Also, how reliable is that Vita remote play?

Yeah vita remote play is kinda cool for like a tech demo, but you need some uber speed wifi to make it even remotely close to like playing on your console, although for P5 being a turn based rpg maybe it wouldn't be that horrible. Any kind of racing game though stay far away.

Hmm. As someone who stick in and around the house (pollinator garden outside, games and theater inside) I guess it allows me to experience adventures. I guess it's kind of like reading, escaping into another world. Reading or experiencing a story. Movies can add beautiful soundtracks that make the story hit you in the feels even more so. So an RPG is a movie you can control. As it has the dialogue, the music, but you also control where the main character and party goes. Um also, I like the big special magic attacks and summon spells. I feel like by the end of the game, I've earned this much cooler looking special team that has all these flashy screen filling devistating magical attacks. All the while being rewarded with a story and characters I can empathize with.

You can do direct link with the system and it's okay speed, but the range is crap and honestly the controls are ass, I tried playing D3 on the Vita and it was an exercise in futility

RPGs or JRPGs? Because I have no answer for JRPGs. Playing through Witcher 2 again was such a breeze, just everything about the gameplay experience is better to me than a JRPG. Not to mention a much more interesting game world and it's shorter than a lot of JRPGs.

Those points are valid and I would totally agree with them maybe 10 years ago. I guess my lifestyle has changed so it's hard to keep up with JRPGs. They have been good as sleep aid when I needed it.
I think for me right now, the only thing keeping me playing older RPGs is nostalgia, that's why it's difficult for me to play an RPG I've never played before, because I'm burnt out before the intro movie ends.

It used to be, I'd be proud to finish the game, my characters are super strong, and I know the good specials by heart. And we have a save icon to remind us and prove that we have finished the journey. But now, if it's a cartridge, you beat it, unless you save it for eternity, the cart will be traded to someone or sold on eBay. If it's disc, it's saved on a cloud somewhere, and I will most likely never revisit the save again even if I start the game over, I'd want a fresh start.

Sorry to be so Debbie Downer on the subject of RPGs, but I think I am pretty much burnt out and nostalgia alone isn't enough for me to play(finish) most of these RPGs since they are 30+ hours of committment.

Don't be, not everyone loves the same things. You have a family, and children. I don't. RPGs are my little adventures I go on looking through a window. You are on your own little adventure. Priorities and goals change when you have a child. Nothing you say will take away my love for RPGs, so don't worry about it.

Not me. Segaers UNITE! . . . until I change my mind in a fickle way and then sell it . . . but pull it back. Go Sega!!

There are several looking for such a thing in the vintage thread. Maybe $110-$115? TMSS or non-TMSS genny 1?

I just hooked up dreamcast to OSSC, will be playing the games I own and see if they can hold my interest, if not I think I will have more games on the way here.

My X'Eye I got from @Snatcher will be a keeper for me for a while. It works great and no issues on the CD department even with CDRs.

CDX was too fickle for me, I'd be afraid of discs, especially CDRs will just eventually fudge it up.

Damn, this would be too low but probably close to right. I'd want it to come closer than this to funding an X'Eye if I am going to sell it though. So maybe just list high on eBay, and bundle in some crap games and a Sonic set.

Without a DVDO, sound is kinda tricky if you want it to go through a soundbar or sound system. Luckily, the one I have have plenty of connections(3.5mm, RCA, optical, coaxial).

3.5mm is going through the OSSC, Dreamcast's VGA cable going into the soundbar directly via RCA, optical going through whichever modern system I am playing, coaxial is...unused currently.

Yeah that's the GTZ price I was giving you. I sold a similar setup for about $150 to fund my MKR purchase from you. I included a model 2 genny though and that also included a Japanese 3d Saturn pad and SOR3 cart only though. So reference that lightly. yes for the x' eye though, mine is currently on crt duty. Paid about $270 shipped sometime last year and it came with a few crap genny games and 2-3 crap Sega CD games. It did include the original ac, rf and 3 button pad though.

Anything of note left for Sega Dreamcast games Lunar? I thought you had parted most of them out?

Nothing crazy left, I have a few games like Shenmue 1 and 2, Skies, Grandia, Lodoss that I want to play through before deciding to dump or not.

Also some are just too cheap to dump like Smash Pack, Blue Stinger.

I do have some imports, including a Typing of the Dead w/Japanese keyboard, one of those fancy see through ones, boxed.
