new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I have a cheap Vizio soundbar from Dell for $80, mounted on top of my 32" TV. Its always annoying to have to switch the source though if I want some bluetooth. Ill be hooking up the insignia to Echo Dot/Google Home Mini.

Soundbar sounds fine to me and saves me space. But then again, I ain't no audiophile

I honestly should just keep the Switch for these Psikyo games alone. Strikers I & II are like $100+ on Saturn. Switch being able to play in tate is definitely a huge plus for shmups

Some new ones just came out, also not in pic Zero Gunner 2:

Not gonna lie, soon as I shipped that Switch to Dustin I was like "K, when am I buying another Switch now." The Psikyo games and ACA NeoGeo in general are all fantastic, it's really something to get this stuff properly ported and portable.

I do foreign shipping on games under $30 and charge $19.99 for shipping, usually make $5+ on it and can afford to lose that much. Any more expensive than that it goes GSP.

Lunar Bucks! Sounds good. I bought plenty of USB-C cables for my S8 so not a problem on charging cable, as long as the controller is in decent shape

I actually returned the CE to Best Buy, since I knew I wasn't going to immediately play it.

Dang, @DiamondDave! I finally got a chance to mess around with that HDMI modified Nintendo GameCube (GameCube) and Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Player (GameCube) and -- HOLY CRAP! -- that thing's awesome!! Playing Game Boy Advance in all its big-screen digital glory is truly a thing to behold. But, the best part is something I actually didn't even know about. The mod job isn't just the HDMI output: it's also region-free now. So, for the first time ever, I got to try out a video game that's been hiding out in my collection for well over a decade: Hudson Selection Volume 3: PC Genjin (GameCube). Getting to actually pop that in and play through the first couple levels was a really neat experience and I wanna thank you, sir, for helping make it possible. love

The xenoblade controller looks like it's hard to find now? I asked for it for christmas from my wife but she got me socks and golf shoes :P I should've just bought it for myself when it was sitting on shelves

My CD-R's arrived and last night I had an excellent CD burning session, felt like 2002 popping discs in out out and surfing the dark webs :P

NEC PC Engine playlist I went through on my quest to burn games
Steam hearts - easy shooter at first with funny weird boob scenes between
Ys IV - holy crap I am excited to start playing it, what a job by the translation team and the original game is super impressive as well - you can really see the calibur of development behind it - easily the most impressive start to a Ys game yet to me.
Spriggan - again, wow I am surprised this isn't talked about more, the powerup system is bad ass, controls are great, and the presentation is fantastic. I think this is a game I'll put on to show people what's up with the PCE :P
Ys III - I am torn and kinda wish I played this version instead of the Genesis version because of the presentation. The graphics are better, the music is better, and I like the feel of the control and character sprites better. The scrolling is headache inducing broken, the translation and story presentation is much worse (judging from the opening scenes up through the first area), despite voiced characters, it was a bit harder to know what was going on. I don't think I'll play through this again, but I will watch a playthrough to see what other differences there are.
Exile - This game I've been wanting to play for a long time, and plan to play after Ys IV and Neutopia, but just starting the game and trying to quickly get to combat I got stuck. Looking forward to checking this one out more.

Yeah, Xeno-modded gives ya region-free, so you can play just about gosh darn anything. But the HDMI output's pretty fantastic on that, I don't think I'll be able to use a composite output on an HDMI television again honestly. Use the third party GBA players makes a world of difference.

And you're welcome! Glad you're enjoying it. For me it was mostly a curiosity, but it was definitely cool.

What software did you use for your burns? I can't remember if the last time I did this stuff I was running Discjuggler or Alcohol 120%.

Did you go through ZeldaProX or by some other modder? How much did it put you back?

But the HDMI output's pretty fantastic on that, I don't think I'll be able to use a composite output on an HDMI television again honestly. Use the third party GBA players makes a world of difference. And you're welcome! Glad you're enjoying it. For me it was mostly a curiosity, but it was definitely cool.

I'll definitely have to check out that whole third-party Game Boy Advance player thing. You didn't happen to throw that into the bundle, did you? There's two discs in particular that I'm not too sure about. winking raspberry

Thanks, man! As a matter of fact, it wasn't too long ago that I had to fight off a similar green-eyed monster when you got that "well loved" disc of Burning Rangers (Saturn) for freakin' peanuts. But, such is life and I just reminded myself that you can't hog all the cool crap and good deals. Sharing really is caring. wink yes

I have professed my love for Spriggan and Ys IV many times. Just saying. But yeah Spriggan is easily a top 5 shooter on the system, but I'm not sure if that is a widely held opinion or not.

It's not that it's not a widely held opinion. It's that it's not a widely known video game. Obscurity can be a double-edged sword as far as this kind of thing goes.

Yeah. Even though most fans now import a lot of Turbo it still hurt the visibility of any game that didn't make it over. Spriggan and Nexzr in particular are very excellent shooters that probably haven't been played enough by shmup fans. Both of them are better than Sapphire, Sylphia, Coryoon and Magical Chase imo. Those 4 have really bloated price points. Though at this point Magical Chase might somehow be underrated in terms of it's merit as a game. I'd put it in the middle tier of PCE shooters.

It should be like $20 for the PCE version, then no one would care.

Seriously, though, I'd have loved to give Burning Rangers (Saturn) a shot for pennies of its usually bloated price. I didn't chime in 'cause I didn't wanna be a lil' punk ass dog to my main man @Lunar. He asked first: fair 'n' square. But, for future reference, @Missile, please know that I am ALWAYS interested in badass deals like that one. wink

Kinda annoying that it doesn't remember the settings? Or is there a way to save it.

I could be spoiled by the DVDO machines.
