new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

It's probably some totally complex tricky/hidden bullcrap. Definitely use a guide to get what you want there. I speak from many many years of JRPG experience. I think about 2004 or so I just cut the bullcrap and double checked guides to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted with multiple ending games. :)

Heh, these speakers are badass enough to use as a main set-up. With that power amp, they REALLY delivered. Gotta wait for the amp to get repaired now though. Also the retail was $1300 tyvm lol. The large version of their 3.7i speakers is muuuuuch more and while I'm definitely spending a lot on this stuff I also do have a budget to keep in mind lol.

I also have a projector. A Sony G70. cool smile

I don't like them as much as the Lunars but they are solid and I love the setting. 4 was the only real weak link in the series imo.

Why do they need the console if they're big PCE collectors?

I've seen people with shelves that have eight or nine CIB CoreGrafx II units, and they don't stop. I don't think the hardcaw PCE collector really gives a crap whether they own it or not, they just want as much of it as possible.

A Chinese brand over Viewsonic? YOU AREN'T DOING A GOOD JOB.

That monitor has a lot of what I'm looking for and would be replacing the Dell that I use for movies and modern games. The real issue is 32'' might be too big for the space it's going into, so I 100% do not have room for 55''.

Yeah it's not for PC so I don't need 144. I'm still rocking an Acer XB270HU as my main PC monitor. I'm not buying anything right this second so I'll be looking into and weighing options.

You can get a lot more for a lot less. Wait for a sale, wait for a non-crap brand. It'd be nice if even if you aren't using it FOR gaming, if you decided to pivot you COULD. Instead of being out $360 plus tax and ship on a half assed monitor. I'd honestly rather you saved another $100 and just bought a 27'' 4K display, at least that has some upward mobility

Viewsonic is a Staples dumpster brand, they go on actual clearance prices frequently. As Richard Marx would say, "hold on (to the night)"

Have you looked into the TCL brand? Not TLC - there is a bunch of marketplace confusion about this, but look into TCL a bit - it's a new company brand* but I've heard great things and my friend got one sight unseen and it's bad ass

*edit: Apparently it's the manufacturer that used to make RCA (I had a RCA tv that was crap) but it's not new, just rebranded.

Just saw your edit. "Staples dumpster brand" was pretty funny. I'll probably just run this Dell into the ground some more, it's good enough and has pretty good colors (esp for the price).

My China comment was mostly in jest. I've been using Oppo dvd players for over three years now and I am extremely pleased with their performance compared to their cost. When I do end up upgrading my bluray player, it's going to be an Oppo for a lot of reasons.

What's that input lag site you check? How do they stack up?

I think they're one of the best, second only to LG's current offering, and these are significantly cheaper and faster than all of the samsungs and sonys

PS1 actually doesn't support component. I was looking at RGB cables on retro access. Nothing I have takes SCART so I either need another conversion cable, or I can just get one that already ends in BNC connectors and RCA audio.

Gotta have that coaxial multicore. Not 100% sure what that means, but it sure sounds important. Coaxial multicore is also my favorite underground metal genre.
