new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I'm probably on some people cheap lists but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay FMV/inflated collectors prices. If you want to liquidate something a little lower than FMV, or offer a package deal, I'm your man.

You can do it I just finished it like 20 minutes ago. It was better than I remembered maybe but it's probably only because it's so ..... repetitive in some ways? That's why I think I disliked it more from way back. The graphics arent great the music was whatever's but unlike the second one it has a more old school feel which I kind of liked. It's not as polished, and it is hard in the sense that you have to play it just how they want you to without almost any diverting from the way they want you to beat it.

Anyways it's a 6 out of a 10 for me. It's probably more solid than I remembered it to be. It doesn't have any huge glaring flaws either which is a bonus. I might try 2 and 3 tonight.

This game took way longer to finish than I had anticipated. I was just trying to play it and not just spam the only things that worked so I'm a moron for that. Lol.

You've bought 3 games from me are pretty fair prices, you seem fine. :p

This article on PDS is kind of interesting. It's full of the usual cultish overpraise for PDS and every aspect of it, but there are some tidbits of info I'm not sure were widely (or ever?) confirmed by Sega employees.

Autographed production discs were sold on Ebay to pay for a pizza party. There's a real holy grail out there.
> Underwood sold an autographed copy of the Panzer Dragoon Saga production discs on eBay to pay for pizza for himself, Lucich, and the game's testers. "That was our launch party for one of the best games of its time," Lucich says.

I'm not sure Sega employees have ever given such specific estimates of production numbers like this, have they? Lots of people throw out numbers like 10k or 20k but they're essentially made up. These guys say 22-25k. Also just 2 days to sell out that initial run.
> According to Underwood and Lucich, only 20,000 North American copies were produced in Saga's initial run. After those sold out in two days, between 2,000 and 5,000 more were made. Then the tap turned off forever. Nulty recalls an "extremely small run" of roughly 1,000 copies being ordered in Europe.

Unfortunately, I didn't play the GotM. I dragged my Sega CD out for the first time in over 4 years and now it doesn't read discs. (It's still in great cosmetic condition.) I'll see if I can fix it later on...is Neutopia the February GotM? I just played that one a few months ago when @Noid recommended it. I didn't finish it, so this would be an opportunity to do so.

Yes Neutopia is the February let's play together game of the month. If you beat Zelda on snes that's an additional vote you get I believe for the following vote. So if you beat Neutopia and LTTP I believe you will get three votes for the April game?

@Lunar let me know if I'm understanding it right.

Crazy that Nintendo included it on the NES Classic. Out of left field really.

I feel like I've dealt with a lot of the active users who are likely to be interested in the same kinds of things as me. I have three transactions with users I haven't dealt with before this year, so there's that I guess.

I think both of us buy everything and hold onto it forever, which is why we haven't transacted yet, ha.

That could do it... I've been trying to release a bit more of my stuff to free up space, but I'm not doing too good a job with it...

I'm like this with anime but not games. Only time I move anime is when I have doubles or if I really really really hated it. Even then I still have some stuff I don't like because I can't be bothered to sell it. The hate has to be very real like with Texhnolyze or however the fudge that was spelled.

I actually just got rid of a bunch of movie doubles (had my brother give them to a co-worker of his) and I have another batch that I'm either sending to someone or going to Vegas to surprise them in person.

The day I sold all my manga felt so good. What a waste of space that could be used for video games.

My list of things to sell there are either singles from things I've replaced, or things I'm just not going to finish buying. Next massive organization I do with my anime and manga may see another round of purges. I have stacks and stacks of manga with no shelves to put them on.

@DefaultGen Purging ALL your manga? I can't do that! I have over 3000 volumes; if I did so, I'd get a lot of space, but I'd also feel really bad afterwards. I may wind up purging series that no longer interest me too much, like Inuyasha, but we'll see...

I mean I play Super Mario Bros 2 more than I rewatch all 10 hours of Band of Brothers, so I gotta say VG > BD.

They go for $60 shipped on ebay and I'm saving $6-8 on ebay fees so it's about right for me.

Added Gen and sega cd model 2 to my sale thread. Plus a few games + Backup RAM! Not ready to let go of the genesis games but might soon.

@Lunar, you're up if you want to race. I recorded a run for the first time in a while and got half the time I last timed myself. 22:24, a new GameTZ record verified by shady Twin Galaxies refs.

Also... this game would put me SECOND to last on speedrun.com!
