new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

If the prices weren't so damn stupid I'd be interested in the 3GB card. But I'm not gonna be #CheapTZ and act like you should be selling it for some price more in line with it's gaming capabilities. eBay that crap.

Yeah. Honestly even the 1050 Ti was running fast enough on this rig emulating Breath of the Wild that I had to limit the frames, and WoW performance is identical, so the 1060 3GB's probably a plenty capable card for 1080p, probably even 1440p long as you've got the CPU to back it up. Basically the 6GB's an insurance policy in case games get super bad in a few years, but right now nothing's coming close to using all that memory unless you're being an butt-hole.

@Lunar I'll definitely be dumping the 3GB, not 100% on price at the moment. The 290's around $250-270, the 1060's around 270-290.

How much ya thinking on the 3GB card? Was looking to do a Plex/Home Automation server.

I'd probably be looking to get at least $250 out of it since I ate some value on the trade-down. You should look into picking up a 1050Ti for around $220 new, with some patience you should find something at a Frys or Best Buy, maybe on eBay or Newegg. Should be plenty for what you're looking to do.

I'm gonna be doing some burn-in tests on both cards when they come in to make sure that they behave when the Furmark gets rolling. Probably some gaming performance tests to see if it's even really honestly worth keeping the 6GB card in lieu of the 3GB card. I'll be writing things down, for science.

Yea those things sound like what a scientist would test for. I just want one for games. Prob not worth the hassle of selling R9 and installing the new card. I should prob open my rig up at least to clean the dust. I can see the dust for like 2 years and i just pretend its not there.

You can play all those beloved classics from the XP era that people haven't got running properly on Windows 10.

Windows 95 had a Terminal Velocity clone I can't recall published by Microsoft Home, I miss that. Had a sick CD soundtrack.

edit: recalled it.

Terminal Velocity was the biggest disappointment I've ever gone back to. I can go back to American Gladiators, Sim Theme Park, and Blaster Master 2 and love them despite their faults, but my childhood memory of Terminal Velocity was somewhere around "Best 3D flight game ever made" and it dipped to "Super repetitive fog simulator" when I played it again a few years back.

Also I love that aggressive Microsoft red font. That could easily be a video card, mouse, or joystick box.

Nah. Descent was true 3D, Terminal Velocity/Fury3 faked it with a 2d plane with 3D structures, and you flying a sprite-based ship traveling along that plane. It was the Doom of its kind. First and good, but not really 3D.

I got those PS1 games from Square Enix today, I think these are repros. The discs are silver instead of black like other PS1 games. The cases are cheap too, after opening Chrono Cross the front of the case came apart.

So, @Lunar, is this, like, the RTT Primaries and we're whittling the candidates down to just two or is this a wild 'n' crazy free-for-all? Unless it gets slimmed down to just two choices, my current vote for RTT Let's Play Together Game of the Month is Galactic Attack (Saturn). smile yes

Lol. Really it's just a really solid dedicated older gaming tower. Also Win 98 compatibility will be a lot better.

They're probably just not using black backed discs anymore. They're officially licensed Squaresoft releases (since they're selling them on Square Enix's website), they just cycle out who they have produce them, so whoever can do it cheapest probably wins. So TECHNICALLY anything manufactured after what, 2002 is definitely what you would consider a "reproduction" but since it's licensed, it hardly counts as that, no matter how weird they are.

Correct.

Around 2008, they started switching to silver discs.

Here you go, guys. $350 PC build that'll beat Xbox One X at PUBG with some minor overclocks. No GPU required! Confirmed awesome by Digital Foundry.

I should vote for Galactic Attack since I beat it the other day lol. This is not a vote post though. I'm thinking on it.

@dunno001 and @sailorneorune I haven't forgotten your games. I was at work from 10am to 3am yesterday, then back in today at 10. I was at least watching Sharif die in Neutopia until the wee hours of the East coast morning. Life is hard.

I was thinking about building something like that, but even RAM prices are getting up there, and to be efficient it would need high speed RAM 3200 and 16 gigs of it.

According to that list it's not on the PS2 version, RayForce. Windows and Xbox only on this beast ;)

If you move, the trade turns to your new state or country.

I have Croatia as a country I traded with because a guy who lived in NY moved over there afterwards.

We should petition @Tad to move to whatever state we're all missing (Wyoming, Montana, etc.)

Speaking of retro computing, I just finished reinstalling XP on my old rig. I plan to use it as a general retro system later on. It has 3 GB RAM and a Radeon HD 6850, which should be fine for stuff from around 2006 and earlier.

I had a dog of a time getting the drivers for the system, though. Stupid AMD bundled the drivers but they didn't bundle the program to actually use the drivers...

I also imaged the hard drive in case the drive dies on me or I screw it up with older game DRM stuff. A fully patched XP install with nothing but Chrome is 10 GB, or 5 GB compressed.
