new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Is there anything more American than making up your mind and refusing to consider facts and evidence that go against the reality you want to exist?

Heh. How hot are your VCRs? I got some real bangers.

I generally only pick up tapes when there is no dvd/bd or they are stupidly expensive and the VHS is pretty cheap.

Are you offering me porn tapes? ;)

I don't really buy movies on VHS, I tend to stick to home-recorded stuff in case I find something cool, but I do like to buy stupid videos or weird bad movies. Serious VHS collecting is way way outta my league.

Not sure if anyone else is as excited as I am, RE 2 is by far the best RE.

You misspelled RE 4.

Sure RE4 got all the bells and whistles of new gen design, but RE2 has RE4 best in terms of flavor, the cross-path storyline, the replay value. Just imagine RE2 with modern design and you know its gonna be miles better. I just hope they dont fudge it up.

I read all the novels, pretty sure I still own them

It's still all about Resident Evil 1 and/or Code Veronica.

Resident Evil 2 just wasn't as good and I played through both almost right after they each
came out on PlayStation 1.

But I will admit I'm glad they finally made Claire attractive in that pic that you
shared today @Lunar she looks better than she ever has before.

RE2 is the best RE and my body is absolutely ready for this remake.

Lunar is literally the only one with good RE taste in here. RE 2 was amazing when it came out and one of my all time favorite games. I really liked RE3 as well. Notable mention: RE 0 was pretty good too.

Really looking forward to the remake!

the hype for RE2 back in the ps1 days was so crazy, every magazine had huge blowouts on it and cover stories and at the time graphically it was pretty sick. then I put it in, and ... tank controls.. frown I have a hard time getting into games that control like that, never did get very far. survival horror isn't really my stuff anyway though, but my brother and I co-op'd 5 and 6, which I know everyone hates. if not for co-op wouldn't have, we played a lot of less than great games just because of co-op

ya we played that, and hunted the demons forge, and several other sub par games just because of the co-op aspect.

I finished Kane & Lynch somehow doing co-op. That game is awful and no one else should play it.

I cant believe MS actually gave that away as one of the games with gold a few months ago. awful doesn't begin to describe the monstrosity that is K&L

That's embarrassing for MS. JC.

How much of it have you played? There is one spot that was really frustrating fairly deep into the game. So I was starting to think: good lord, is this me, do I just suck at games now? I felt compelled to search out info on it and everyone else online said the aim detection for that segment was crap and you have to just aim in the general area and pray. dead face

I un-secretly love tank controls. When the REmake got re-released on PS4 I turned those BS new fangled controls off and went right back to good ol' tank and just crushed it.

RE2 is still my favorite of the series. I played through it no less than 20 times.

Maybe it's the inverted vs non inverted analog stick thing .. my brain just doesn't like tank controls it feels non intuitive.

@Gypsy not enough of K&L to get that far maybe we didn't finish it. It's just so bad. One of the YouTubers I watch that shows the games with good and ps plus games each month was trying to diplomatically say it was a dumpster fire lol.

@WithinTemptation it's like no matter where the character is or is facing..pushing up makes them go forward, etc. It's def not for me.

I can't play with non inverted sticks either. My brother is opposite he can't play with inverted..but it makes sense to me...it you pull back the camera goes up and vice versa..like imagine a stick on your head.

I wonder where I got converted to inverted. No idea. If you cant change RE2 to inverted I couldnt play it. But apparently back then I hadnt been converted over. It wasnt like I changed it on purpose. Very odd.

RE1/2/3/CV all have tank controls. RE4 and forward have regular direction controls you have come to expect 3D games to have.

@tonymack21 is referring to the inverted controls for First Person Shooters, anything before Halo had inverted controls (up is down, and down is up) as a default, some games (like Turok) cannot be changed.

Halo converted me.

I was playing inverted just fine, was gonna become a helicopter pilot and everything.

Then one day in college, we played Halo in the lounge. That was the end of my career as a possible Black Hawk pilot.

lol.. sadness.

I can see why it makes sense to either side. if you put a stick on top of your head or on a camera, and you pull it back, it will look up, and vice versa, and for some they associate it as directly moving the screen. my brother is a non inverter, but still plays flight games with normal flight control. for me inversion makes more sense, I guess I was so used to it even when halo came out I still changed it. facebook people will argue vehemently about this, saying if you don't invert your x axis it makes no sense why you invert your y, like the way you play hurts someone else in some way.. but I don't invert the x lol.
