new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Dude, Vilgax Attacks should get more play - the combat designers went on to work on Strider and Killer Instinct reboots, a bunch of the artists went on to work on Last of Us and Uncharted 3/4, and the level designers went to work on God of War 3 / 2017 Ratchet and Clank and now the upcoming Spiderman. The Cosmic Destruction game was not nearly as good, and the Disney games were all very rough. Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion (smash brothers clone) put the company out of business. Who would think 6 months is not enough time to make a smash brothers clone, surprising!

Cool, if we see the Nintendo Wii version in good shape 'round here, we'll pick it up. yes Some of the "silly kids' games" we tried turned out to be surprisingly fun.

Ben 10 Alien Force: Vilgax Attacks was one of my favorite 360 games. Im still sad it wasn't brought over to the PS3 to give me an excuse to play it again.

I was only half-kidding, and I wasn't mocking the games you worked on. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I can't wait to buy this game for somewhere between $2.50 and $5. No thanks to the retro media with the retro framerate.

I played a few levels of Crash last night, and it's the same one I played back in the day. (I thought it might have been the second.) I'm sure I'll be able to finish it this month, assuming it doesn't get too difficult later on. The vertical stages are taking some getting used to, btw.

What would be nice, is if they let you set up three switches side by side so you can play with the extended monitor set up like the original arcade machines

I haven't looked into it but I wonder if it's the same crew who did the recent PS4 version of Wild Guns. I am on board for their ability to make new assets in the same exact style so they can blend the original assets in with new content, either way.

This will be overpriced and I wasn't a huge fan of the game but it sure looks neat

Idgi. The Snatcher double album cost like, $40 shipped. Why are these fudgeos charging a hundred?

Must be the Saturn tax. No wonder the Polymega costs $250!

That thing had a video resolution of 864x224 (three 288x224 screens) and the Switch's screen resolution is 1280x720, so it would be theoretically possible to do that, but judging from that video, it isn't really necessary due to the sprite sizes.

The arcade image has been blown up to 2x size (sourced from System 16), and the overlay is a cap of the video. The original arcade was more focused on enemies coming from the side, but the SNES version and this one had a LOT of fighting on the air.

No, Policenauts is 25 GBP. The OutRun album only had one print run. I wibble wobbled on it because it was like 20 GBP and now it's "worth" $100 because RAAAAERE.

I did not expect this level of response from me just bragging that I knew this was originally released with an ultra wide screen ;)

Ahh Polymega, the crapshow continues...

Who actually believed that this was going to be a viable product?

... yeah uh, I get to see a lot of older game related stuff because of my involvement with MobyGames. So a lot of stuff just sticks in my head. Sorry to disappoint. :P

Anyone willing to take a guess at how long it takes for these things to destroy old CD-based media? One spin, or two?

my boss (huge casual) was so excited about the bittboy today, he was like only 40 bucks!, i love collecting gaming stuff like that, i would def get that. he would pee himself over the idea of polymega.

Lol, I wouldn't pay more than $20 for a Bittboy. For what it is, with composite output (annoyingly hampered by its awful placement bottom-side of console) it's really not a terrible little thing, but it's got quirks and it's frankly a piece of crap. The D-Pad is dicked, the buttons, EVERYTHING about this thing is like, soft.

ya, i wanted to tell him there is nothing collectible about it, but i mean i guess if that stuff makes you happy. i told him that money could go to much better things and most of those 300 loaded roms are probably trash. for every double dragon there will be 10 garbage things, or more. but i mean hes super casual so if he found a deal on one and got it and enjoyed hey, be happy. ( I guess )

I really want the Streets of Rage 2 vinyl but it was scalped for $80+ immediately and I'm just not paying it.

Also if anyone has this vinyl I want it.

Record collectors are worse than video game people because records are objectively the worst way to listen to music.

The best part is record people will actually fight you on this point and try to spout nonsense about it.
