Thread Description Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.
Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.
Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!
Old Topic Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.
We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates. There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room. I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them. There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is . I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).
No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Really? Ugh... I guess that's how it's going to be for the Switch too. This big-publishers-being-cheapskates era we live in is getting on the few good nerves I have left. Better make sure we've got enough room on the ol' SD card...
DQXI is about to come out and I'm definitely tempted. But I am waiting for TGS to see if they have some in game footage of the switch version. I remember square enix said they'd have "something on DQXI switch" so.

A lot of them are my old games that I sold to Lunar in the past. LOL.
I don't know about amazing but it's definitely really solid. I'm not complaining that's for sure.

I am very hopeful. DQXI hype is reaching maximum velocity and I think it's going to be huge. They will want to get it out in English on Switch I think. Which is definitely my preferred platform for buying it.

Men and woman are equal and nobody deserves to be coddled, myself included. I don't deserve to be accused as a troll when I did no such thing. So we can both drop it and get over wherever the hell this came from in the first place. I respect Iwata too, I think he was amazing. But I'm not going to say sorry for a joke that someone got triggered by when I wasn't even targeting him or her.
Also, if you're having trouble with image sharing, if you're in the RTT Discord, adding images for verification's super easy. Click the plus button, click the image you want to share, then ping Lunar. Done. If he doesn't give you your sticker, you have my permission to publicly mock him. Think he fudgeed up on one of mine, too.
@Gypsy Serving people we care about is one of the most satisfying things we can do. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's just a great feeling to be able to help someone who's having a hard time, even if it's just with something that appears small (a smile or an opportunity to destress, for example). We and the GOTM will be here when you have the time.
I was browsing thru October 2005 issue of egm, i was surprised to see top 10 sale charts especially gamecube section, you'd never guess whats #1 over mario sunshine, melee, pokemon, and animal crossing

No I am extremely excited to play the ps4 version of DQ XI today, but I also worked on Destiny 2: Forsaken for a long time, and happy to see my stuff shipped with it. The Polymega is a friend of mine who has also been working on that since it started a very long time ago, and he used to work at insomiac. The insomniac Spiderman game comes out today [comes out friday, so a little less crazy stars aligning than I thought] and a lot of my former coworkers from a previous company worked on that game too - so in my friend community there is a lot of excitement + DQXI for my own personal playtime excitement. I've been playing Dragonquest Builders because of young kids and family visiting recently and everyone wanted to watch a game and I wanted to get my excitement for the new release satiated somehow.
I made it a bit further in popful, and got a code for Crash from my work to download it on my ps4, but with DQXI and my previous experience of not enjoying crash I will probably not be joining if I finish popful.
For Destiny 2 I worked on the Strike Pyramidian background and boss introduction effects. I also worked on the glowing water on I.O., and various other environemntal/gameplay related animations and effects. I am not sure what I can talk about with Forsaken, but I worked on what a lot of people are streaming which is pretty cool to watch :)
Sounds like the polymega launch is rough and their site is down, but honestly DQXI has me so amped.. I can't wait to try that out on that for a while
Thanks duders, I am lucky to get to do it and am very thankful for everyone who plays and enjoys what I work on. Hoping people enjoy the Destiny 2 stuff, but I am already excited about the next project and having a lot of fun working right now on different stuff :)
Dude, Vilgax Attacks should get more play - the combat designers went on to work on Strider and Killer Instinct reboots, a bunch of the artists went on to work on Last of Us and Uncharted 3/4, and the level designers went to work on God of War 3 / 2017 Ratchet and Clank and now the upcoming Spiderman. The Cosmic Destruction game was not nearly as good, and the Disney games were all very rough. Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion (smash brothers clone) put the company out of business. Who would think 6 months is not enough time to make a smash brothers clone, surprising!
I played a few levels of Crash last night, and it's the same one I played back in the day. (I thought it might have been the second.) I'm sure I'll be able to finish it this month, assuming it doesn't get too difficult later on. The vertical stages are taking some getting used to, btw.
I haven't looked into it but I wonder if it's the same crew who did the recent PS4 version of Wild Guns. I am on board for their ability to make new assets in the same exact style so they can blend the original assets in with new content, either way.
That thing had a video resolution of 864x224 (three 288x224 screens) and the Switch's screen resolution is 1280x720, so it would be theoretically possible to do that, but judging from that video, it isn't really necessary due to the sprite sizes.
The arcade image has been blown up to 2x size (sourced from System 16), and the overlay is a cap of the video. The original arcade was more focused on enemies coming from the side, but the SNES version and this one had a LOT of fighting on the air.
my boss (huge casual) was so excited about the bittboy today, he was like only 40 bucks!, i love collecting gaming stuff like that, i would def get that. he would pee himself over the idea of polymega.
Lol, I wouldn't pay more than $20 for a Bittboy. For what it is, with composite output (annoyingly hampered by its awful placement bottom-side of console) it's really not a terrible little thing, but it's got quirks and it's frankly a piece of crap. The D-Pad is dicked, the buttons, EVERYTHING about this thing is like, soft.
ya, i wanted to tell him there is nothing collectible about it, but i mean i guess if that stuff makes you happy. i told him that money could go to much better things and most of those 300 loaded roms are probably trash. for every double dragon there will be 10 garbage things, or more. but i mean hes super casual so if he found a deal on one and got it and enjoyed hey, be happy. ( I guess )

Are you offering me porn tapes? ;)
I don't really buy movies on VHS, I tend to stick to home-recorded stuff in case I find something cool, but I do like to buy stupid videos or weird bad movies. Serious VHS collecting is way way outta my league.
Sure RE4 got all the bells and whistles of new gen design, but RE2 has RE4 best in terms of flavor, the cross-path storyline, the replay value. Just imagine RE2 with modern design and you know its gonna be miles better. I just hope they dont fudge it up.
Lunar is literally the only one with good RE taste in here. RE 2 was amazing when it came out and one of my all time favorite games. I really liked RE3 as well. Notable mention: RE 0 was pretty good too.
the hype for RE2 back in the ps1 days was so crazy, every magazine had huge blowouts on it and cover stories and at the time graphically it was pretty sick. then I put it in, and ... tank controls.. I have a hard time getting into games that control like that, never did get very far. survival horror isn't really my stuff anyway though, but my brother and I co-op'd 5 and 6, which I know everyone hates. if not for co-op wouldn't have, we played a lot of less than great games just because of co-op

That's embarrassing for MS. JC.
How much of it have you played? There is one spot that was really frustrating fairly deep into the game. So I was starting to think: good lord, is this me, do I just suck at games now? I felt compelled to search out info on it and everyone else online said the aim detection for that segment was crap and you have to just aim in the general area and pray.
@Gypsy not enough of K&L to get that far maybe we didn't finish it. It's just so bad. One of the YouTubers I watch that shows the games with good and ps plus games each month was trying to diplomatically say it was a dumpster fire lol.
@WithinTemptation it's like no matter where the character is or is facing..pushing up makes them go forward, etc. It's def not for me.
I can't play with non inverted sticks either. My brother is opposite he can't play with inverted..but it makes sense to me...it you pull back the camera goes up and vice versa..like imagine a stick on your head.

I wonder where I got converted to inverted. No idea. If you cant change RE2 to inverted I couldnt play it. But apparently back then I hadnt been converted over. It wasnt like I changed it on purpose. Very odd.
@tonymack21 is referring to the inverted controls for First Person Shooters, anything before Halo had inverted controls (up is down, and down is up) as a default, some games (like Turok) cannot be changed.
I can see why it makes sense to either side. if you put a stick on top of your head or on a camera, and you pull it back, it will look up, and vice versa, and for some they associate it as directly moving the screen. my brother is a non inverter, but still plays flight games with normal flight control. for me inversion makes more sense, I guess I was so used to it even when halo came out I still changed it. facebook people will argue vehemently about this, saying if you don't invert your x axis it makes no sense why you invert your y, like the way you play hurts someone else in some way.. but I don't invert the x lol.

Well what about Lollipop Chainsaw on PS3 or 360? That game is a pretty fun beat em up! It's also funny, light hearted and yet still totally sick and twisted. Also Mike Tysons Punch out!!! Is pretty good and fun. Diddy Kong Racing? Idk I usually try not to play good games when I'm too down. Then I'll start associating that problem with that game.
Sorry to hear about your Uniracers save getting lost. That's messed up.
Toy Story 3 is pretty fun too believe it or not.
Oh I know GTA San Andreas! Take over some hoods from rival gangs and just unleash Mayhem all over Los Santos and you'll be right as rain! 😃

Kane and Lynch is fine. My friend stopped playing it with me 85% of the way through and I co-oped the last two levels by myself with both controllers. It's not a masterpiece but I think it gets way too much hate because of the Gamespot thing. The second game is OK too, and it's only like 3 hours long so it doesn't overstay its welcome like literally every game these days does.
>> I looked at some notes and I used the word "great!!" with two exclamation points

> Man, usually your taste in games is pretty solid.
I was weirdly into co-op third person shooters from like Ghost Recon 2 up through Resident Evil 5 and I played like every single one with my college roommates. My taste in that time period is impeccable.
Crash Bandicoot is currently the top-selling Switch game on Amazon. Who knew so many people wanted to participate in RTT's Game of the Month! Speaking of which, I'll try to make some progress this weekend now that I've finished The Messenger.
Be playing. It's wilder. Can't name one tune in that game that isn't a banger, but a good handful of them are ABSOLUTE bangers. I had to pause Gambit's stage and let it loop for a while. Storm's is SUPER trippy and excellent.
CL lulz time. So I drive out 30+ minutes to meet a guy to pick up a crt. About halfway there I get a message saying they dropped it. So I'm thinking okay I'll still take a look at it. So then I wait another 30 minutes and I'm about to leave before I get a call. I ask if they will come down on the price and the guy says he'd rather throw it out. I wait a bit and text that seeing how there is no way they fully tested it plus the wait and no way I could test it so I reoffered 60 percent or I'm leaving and I got a really fun and nasty reply.

Lol. Yeah pretty much. If I had brought stuff to test it, then it might be a different story but I was expecting it to be in perfect working order and I definitely wasn't taking their word for it. Them not taking the offer probably saved me from myself a bit.
> Bullcrap, my man. Bullcrap. You'd always rather pay someone to throw it out for

They sounded like a major butt-hole on the phone so there is that. I was due for this crap though, my previous combo of great experiences in a row was bound for a breaker. At least I picked up some crap from some stores since I was already in town.
Hmm.....$76 retail (pre-order price) DQXI Bring Arts figure for $40 on eBay. Seeeeems legit. Edit: A $90 if you are dumb enough to order from the US Square Enix store instead of sourcing it from Japan yourself...
I only recently played TLoU for the first time on the ps4 remaster which included the left behind content of what happened to ellie before the game and during that one chapter of the game. I had seen my brother playing it some and thought eh I will play that someday but what I saw didn't have me dying to play, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. naughty dog mostly does good stuff (well, lately, their past transgressions aside, but 5th gen has largely aged like moldy ass so i'll give them a bit of a pass there) so im sure TLoU 2 is going to be pretty solid.
I have every "intention" of making a run at crash.. how many hours @Gypsy ? with back to school and my new work schedule my gaming time has taken a really serious hit, im losing huge chunks of game time. tens of hours.
the ps4 is set to have a pretty good swan song period, if we are entering the final 2-ish years they are looking really good.

Have you played the prison of elders, been to the IO and Tangled Shore destinations, or have you done strikes on those? I worked on those areas for the last 4 years or so :p hope you are enjoying! Always love to hear people playing it
> I get angrier every time I look at the game list for SNK 40th Anniversary Collection.
> It could be great, but instead they didn't include so many games that are no brainers.
On one hand, don't devalue your IP so much that you become Sega where Genesis games are literally free with ads on mobile. On the other hand, it's SNK and these games have been in a dozen compilations before. I generally don't care about compilations anymore but when some real comprehensive compilation comes out like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection or the NES Classic I'm still onboard.
Almost didn't stop at this church sale on my usual daily drive route. Ended up nearly emptying my wallet. NES with 18 games, most have manuals, game genie, two controllers and a zapper for $10. SNES with three controllers and a game for $20.
> Nothing, I just haven't heard anything about it lately. Looking it up now I see it's
> a year away from release, so I guess that's why. I thought it came out to no fanfare.
Lol I gotcha. I'm still hopeful however. The gaming industry seems to get tunnel vision when it comes to game design sometimes. They only try to create what is proven to sell recently. When certain companies don't adhere to that and fail it is sad but I like seeing lots of different options. Most classic 2600 games played so different from most classic Nes games but they both had a ton of great games.
Now most companies just cut and paste whatever works. Almost no originality anymore.
> A non-functioning N64 cart shell. What a perfect item.
Part of me really wants that bundle... but at the same time. I got YL on PS4, and traded it away without ever finishing it. I'm now more in the mood to give it a second chance... but I already own it on Steam.
I always wanted a piece of plastic with the name of a mediocre half-assed game emblazoned on it to remind me of all the good times the old games gave me and this one didn't. What a swell fudging package that is
I'm putting a dot dot dot on this until people get hands-on. And honestly, I can say fairly easily I could find enough reasons to throw $300 at a SNES FPGA, but Colecovision... eh...
Looks like it's aiming for $200 MSRP. That seems more sane, I'd wait for crowdfunding. If this is legit, I think it'll do well in that phase. Hard to say, too many people have been burned by the butt-holes who bought a bunch of Jag shells and threw a SNES inside in an attempt to get full funding. BOTH of their scams. Hilariously they decided to chose SNES as the controller port standard, too, though these guys don't immediately seem related.

The Colecovision homebrew and hardware community is legit because the only people who care about Colecovision are old vintage computer nerds. But really Collecovision to Colecovision is like RetroUSB to NES, if not moreso. They've made CV hardware for a decade.
