Nah, not unbeatable. I don't like the 30fps versions, frankly, those extra frames feel like a world of extra reaction time. Plenty of close swings where if I was a ms off on my inputs I would have been bumped off the road, the Genesis version was pissing me off so bad. And it still took me at least two hours before my first clear, even on the good Switch version.

But it's sets you up for failure with rng and the strick time limit with no way to get more time. Also the collision detection is just plain awful. There were many times I appear to go through cars, but I try the same move and I wreck. It's so inconsistent that it makes me second guess if I can fit the car in the gap.

The game isn't even that hard to get a clean run, I've done many. My lowest score in the top 20 is 7.5 million. No wrecking isn't thenough biggest issue, it's the traffic blocking you. So you have to just keep the pedal down and pray that car don't change lanes or a car don't appear on that tight turn.

You get more time when you get to the next stage. It's very possible to gain time especially on stage 2/3. I was doing that on my better runs. Whenever I didn't crash at all, I was getting clears. Pretty sure some of my clears were with 1 crash as well. The trick is knowing how much you can afford to slowdown. I didn't have nearly the same issues with traffic. It could be annoying at times but it was never enough to cost me a run.

I feel like you get a flat 15 second buffer for the entire 5 stages assuming all stages can be cleared in 60 seconds. But I'm not so sure that is true. I've tried many routes to see if I can save time, all seem about the same. Right, right is my new favorite, but never made time to see what stage 4 was like. Right, left, right was my previous favoritem route. But at that route the last right was brutal because of the last blind turn up hill. Never had a chance to try left on that route.

Clean first stage is like 60 seconds, if you let off at all its likely 62-63 seconds. Second stage usually 63-65 seconds. 3rd stage is brutal if you want a fast time, usually around 68-70 seconds driving cautious without any leap of faith moves. And there you go, the 15 second buffer is out and game over with a clean run. When I get to the 4th stage it's when I hit 59 seconds first stage.

Another horrible exclusion is there is no way to reset the game. I'd play allot more if I could just reset when the first stage is too slow. Instead I just sit there forand wait for it to end the race.

You can generally make a run work with 2 crashes as long as the path you're on doesn't require really long periods of slowdown (supertight turns), a couple bumper bumps and tight turn slowdowns are totally fine, you'll generally slide in with like, eight seconds to spare even with one crash. Problem is a crash takes about eight seconds out of your checkpoint buffer and you've only got about sixteen or so seconds of wiggle room to work with overall, 20 at the maximum. You can start to very slowly make time by hitting max speed and not slowing down, but slowing down will bleed you for time several times faster than you make at max speed.

For me, the 2nd stage was the best chance to gain time. It has most of the easiness of the first stage but you hit it going full speed. On my best runs I had about 75-80 seconds going into stage 4 iirc.

As for the last part, that's the pitfall of playing via Yakuza unfortunately. Emulation on your own is a quick restart and most consoles have fast soft resets (certainly better than finishing out 40 seconds or so when it becomes impossible to win).

This seems correct. Pretty sure I had a clear or two with two crashes. But once I got into the game I wasn't crashing at all and was hitting turns fairly optimally. Though of course by stage 4/5 you absolutely have to massively slow down to hit some of the turns.

The nice thing in the Ages (not sure if this is across the board) is that once you hit max speed, even turning won't slow you down; you maintain that max speed unless you let off the gas or hit the brakes (or hit something). So if you've got a good line and have the pathing mapped out in your head you can easily make up a visible 2-3 seconds per stage, assuming there aren't any super tight turns. The MAJORITY of the turns in the game just need you to lead into the turn right at the opposite side... but there's generally no less than 2 exceptions to that, with the paths I've run so far. Which generally end A-C. Almost finished an All-Right once.

Pretty sure I slowed down on turns w/o letting off the gas at all. I'll just have to check this tonight.

At least on Ages on Switch, I'll lean into the D-pad during turns and it's just like "183mph!" all the way. I think you might be able to see that on one of my clears I uploaded to Youtube?

It can interfere with the acceleration process but once I was at max, it just stayed.

Vilgax Attacks was the first game I ever got paid to work on, was such a stereotypically hardcore crunch development. Multiple all nighters, and a 6 month development cycle. Crazy memories working on that one

I need to see what I need when I get home. I'm such an elite collector that I don't keep track of CIB games because who cares. I think I definitely need Mario Party, Harvest Moon, and Banjo Kazooie if they're like 9/10.

Hmm, I think Harvest Moon is. I remember the manual got donked by the box flap, but I found a nice HM64 manual in the office last night. Can swap it out and make a sick 9/10.

The other 2 I gotta gloss over in the morning. Most of this stuff is like a 7 but a few were SUPER nice.

I want to "try" this game again later too but I really didn't like it either.
Which is pretty rare for me. The version I was playing is really
old so the graphics were horrible. I'm thinking if I play a newer version
I can probably enjoy it enough to play through it. Literally the
only good thing I found in this game is the music. If most people

Where are these games at? Harvest Moon 64 (I'm assuming you're

So what times are you getting per stage? I feel like I'm doing great but the time dont add up. I just had a 61 stage 1 + 59 stage 2 and only had 70 seconds for the 3rd stage. Oddly enough it still ended me at 68 seconds on that stage, but showed 70 when I started. No idea how you guys can still make it with any mistake. 1 wreck and its game over. Only thing I can think is somehow you are getting like 50 second stage clears, but Im not seeing that being possible without perfect traffic. 59 was my best stage 2 clear so far.

Pretty sure you should be able to clear any stage with 70 seconds left. If you can't you're either hitting too many cars or slowing down way too much. Danger zone is like, 55-60.

Yeah I crashed on that run. Just feels like Im bleeding time. Having said that I finally made stage 4 on the all right route. 2 crashes, but it was my first time seeing that stage. A couple really sharp corners. I had 61, 59, 63, 68 that run. Wish I has a stream set up as I'm beating this today/tomorrow. You could all laugh at how bad I am.

Don't worry, we don't need a video stream to do that ;)

Geez thanks....

Just got to get this 3rd stage down, pretty sure 58-59 is best I can get for stage 1, then another 59 on stage 2. But stage 2 is more inconsistent because of catching traffic in the turns/rocks area.

First of all I DO like Castlevania: Shuriken of the Ninja, I just prefer almost every
other Castlevania in comparison. So nice try guys.

Second I'm pretty sure I was the one who nominated SMB3 one month
and it didn't win so I'm pretty sure you nerds are just trolling at this point,
but in the off chance you aren't I love Smb3 but much prefer Smb2.
So when someone else nominated that the same month I voted for 2
instead.

I can't help that I don't like outrun yet, but I'm going to work on
forcing some fun out of it. Just not today 😉

You shouldn't have to force fun out of a video game. Either it's fun or it's not. Don't play games you don't like.

SotN is still great though.

Well I got a new top score, all rights. I made stage 5 as time expired and not sure where I was at the end but it was very close. I think with 2-3 more seconds I could have have it.

*edit* Got to stage 5 with 3 seconds to spare and crashed with 8 seconds left frown

In its way it is great. In comparison to other Castlevania games
It's not my first choice. If the first Castlevania I had ever played
was SotN it might very well be my favorite now. I feel like old school
Nes platformers and Atari games helped me figure out what I
think is fun.

After making it to the end of stage 5 a few more times and getting stuck behind traffic (first time I was stuck there for 12 seconds following them) with no way out I finally beat it. It was actually a pretty sloppy run, but I usually race them out unless I totally crash. I had much better runs that ended in failure.

PC Engine version. It'd be funny if that ends up being way easier than Sega Ages raspberry But Gypsy's a gamer god who beat Galactic Attack or some such shooter almost immediately.

Lol, yeah I definitely used my PCE cheat device that I made myself.

But the real answer to this is I don't know. The times were BS, my real times were all around 5 minutes.

PCE probably didn't have any way to actually quantify/store times in memory between runs so they said fudge it, score's fine

Remember, though the PCE was a wonderland, without expanded RAM it had to do some bullcraptery to pull off everything it did.

So I was going through those old clear pics. One of my better scores had a worse time than lower scores. 15.7 million = 3m18s and 13.6 million = 3m4s So if anyone can figure out the arcane timing for PCE Outrun, lmk.

id totally watch the show again, it was a childhood fav, I still know all the words and music to the song, but that's a lot of songs from back then, the intro song is an art lost on the last generation of television.

Heads up, I just got a coupon for Metal Slug XX on Steam for owning the earlier games. It might go live today.

I suggest holding off until we find out who did the port. If it's DotEmu, then don't buy it. Don't give them a single cent.
