Description

Every once in a while, a game comes out so out of the ordinary that you cannot help but look at and wonder. Feel the Magic XY/XX may fit into that catagory of strangeness.

Gameplay/Story

Feel the Magic is a story full of mini games which fully utilize the DS's unique features, such as the touch screen. You could begin the game and never have to press a single button on the console, all work is done through the stylus. Feel the Magic is a story about a young kid on a mission to win over the girl of his dreams. Labeled as a dating sim, the game has you completing a series of mini games to advance the story. It begins with your first meeting with the girl, all the way to the final game of saving the girl's life and winning her heart.

There is quite a variety of games, all of which begin fairly easy. Mini games range from painting within borders, karate chopping charging bulls, and undoing buttons on the girl's blouse. The mix of games adds a fresh feel to the gameplay, but you may feel that the game is missing any sort of true gameplay characteristic that allow it to stand out from the crowd.

Visuals/Audio

The visuals in Feel the Magic have a fun 60s style appearance that can attract any gamer to its looks. The mix of browns, golds, and vibrant colors helps it to stand out in a crowd of so many games with graphical similarities. The stereo sound effects and music sound quirky and strange. You immediately hear the Japanese musical style, and witness the visual style only seen in Japan. Overall, the presentation is very good when playing Feel the Magic. Too bad there isn't just a little more.

Downfalls

Unfortunatley, like most other games, Feel the Magic does have some downfalls that shorten the experience. For one, the game is extremely short. I played through every mini game within 20 minutes, although not beating every level of them, I still played long enough to be more than satisfied. Another factor that limits it is the difficulty of some mini games. This brings about a feeling of unbalance to the gameplay, and can often be frustrating when you least expect it. Overall, Feel the Magic is something you should check out if interested in a game easily accessible on the go, but if you want something to last you a while, you'd better look elsewhere.
