1) Raiders of the Lost Ark
2) Star Wars Episode V
3) Star Wars Episode IV
4) The Last Crusade
5) Blade Runner

Runners Up

The Fugitive
Apocalypse Now
Temple of Doom
Star Wars Episode VI

PS: I'm not really a midnight release kind of a guy, but Indiana Jones is one of my all time favorite series. I stood in line to see Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls at midnight--so disappointed.

Very nice

You can't go wrong with any of the Indiana Jones films. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull doesn't even count as an Indiana Jones film. It was more like a cinematic abortion.

Last Crusade gave me nightmares as a kid, and for some reason Temple of Doom was my favorite growing up.

I was fascinated with the monkey brains, the lava pit, the rope bridge scene and the alligators... I know it's kind of the black sheep in the trilogy (fudge Crystal Skull), but I still like it more than Crusade, but now less than Raiders. Fudge the haters.

Last Crusade gave you nightmares but not Temple of Doom?! And am I the only person on the planet that kind of liked Crystal Skull. I mean, it's got its many problems, but I didn't feel like I wasted 2 hours watching it.

Temple of Doom was my favorite growing up too. Then, when I was much older I watched through all 3 of them and realized how awful it was compared to the other two.

I actually prefer Last Crusade over Raiders, but it's really close.

I liked it. I think the hate for it is a combination of 3 things:

1) People were convinced it would suck before they even saw it, so they didn't even give it a chance.
2) It wasn't exactly like the original 3 (or Raiders/Crusade at least).
3) It's just one of those things that's cool to hate/insult.

Agreed. It's got some cheesy scenes and is a bit cgi heavy, but I enjoyed it. It's the weakest entry but it was still a great adventure movie when there are so few that come out anymore.

I originally favored Last Crusade, but I think the main reason for that is we had the other two on VHS. I think I probably just over-watched them. I've since switched favorites, the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark set the perfect tone for the entire series. It's still my all time favorite trilogy.

PS: Kind of random, but my favorite movie growing up was Swiss Family Robinson.

It had no heart in it. Everything about that movie felt forced, which, ultimately, shows that it should have never been made in the first place. Or they should have done it right.

I remember reading an interview with Speilberg saying how they were going to be using the same kinds of film stock so that it fit with the feel of the first three films, and that the lighting was going to be similar and that stunts were going to be as much live action as possible.

That isn't what we were presented with. I've never seen a film with lighting that feels more polished and "studio" than Crystal Skull. It just doesn't feel right.

I'm a hardcore Indiana Jones nut. Obviously the movie was never going to meet my demands/expectations, but what the final product was was deplorable and insulting to the Indiana Jones lineage.

And, no, I don't hate it because "it's just one of those things that's cool to hate"; I hated it because in all accounts it was a forced movie that felt like a paycheck film.

They couldn't even get the fan service right.

And don't even get me started on the script.

:)

Yeah, I'm not saying all 3 of those points are true for everybody. In your case, only #2 fits. At the end of the day, I think it's pretty good, but not nearly as good as Raiders/Last Crusade (which would have been near impossible to achieve).
