As many of you know, giving away free digital codes, such as Steam, Desura, Eshop, UV, etc has been very popular, however shadow stalkers have become a big issue. I've created a private forum, that I think will help combat the lurkers that rudely claim codes.
Rules are very similar to the Freebie Forum; you must be accepted, by me, in order to view the forum. This is to combat the rude people. This is a group where everyone knows who's in the group, so we can, if necessary, single out the people taking codes without claiming to do so.
-You must be at least Trader with 6 months or more of activity to be eligible to join. - Once you're added to the group please post a Giveaway thread of some kind. - If you redeemed a code someone else posted please make sure to make a post claiming it, and thanking the user who provided it. - If you are caught shadow leaching codes, you will be removed from the group, and banned from returning.
If you'd like to join, please send me a private message. Thanks!
Hey guys, so as many of you know, giving away free digital codes, such as Steam, Desura, Eshop, UV, etc has been very popular in the forums. I've discussed an option with Bill, that I think would help combat the shadows stalkers, that rudely claim codes.
My idea is to turn my inactive user forum into a private Digital Code Giveaway forum. Rules would be very similar to the Freebie Forum, where you have to be accepted into it. This is to combat all of the lurkers taking codes. This would be a group where everyone knows who's in the group, so we can, if necessary, single out the people taking codes without claiming to do so.
Bill said, if we can get a good amount of interest in this idea, he'll make the private forum for us! So what do you guys think?
I mean, it's fine, but this could be 100% avoided if you simply required people to PM you requesting the code if they wanted it...
All keeping it in a closed group is going to do is eliminate the lurkers. Your invited users will absolutely still occasionally snag without posting about it, especially if they've been on a tear with codes before, and all this group would do is whittle down the people you'd arbitrarily wag your fingers at without any actual idea of who actually did it... which, again, wouldn't happen if you told the people who wanted it to message you.
This seems like such a wild round-about way to fix something that wouldn't be a problem if you didn't simply post the code up and insist someone post if they took it. Like, the tools are in your hands, is all I'm saying. Every time I come across someone complaining that someone used the code they were giving away, I'm just kinda like
Does it matter that they didn't post? And wouldn't having people PM you if interested fix that...?
I'm going to try to do this one without an icon since there's too many icons, etc. You can tell if someone is in the forum by checking their user page "Groups:" line. Also, from the Users page there's a groups section where you can check membership.
If the forum gets a lot of activity, perhaps we can revisit the icon delema in the future. I personally think the icon should have something to do with the forum. So I was thinking a variation of the steam icon.
When I messaged Bill initially I asked about icons. Bill gets a lot of icon requests, and doesn't want to over do it. I think icons would benefit this forum, but let's at least wait until there's lots of activity before asking him again!
