This CD, and the previous one are like it. Overall this artist makes a lot of weird crap like this. It's mostly instrumental as well.

These probably don't actually count as songs, since they're all video game pieces, but anyway, was just listening to these three:

Chaos shrine/temple. (From one of the original Final Fantasies).

https://youtu.be/suyCi-xdjNo

Chronopolis (from Chrono Cross)

https://youtu.be/OFT6Ox4Wiyc

Powerful piece. Listen to this with headphones on. I'll be surprised if you don't get chills.

Overworld theme from an older game called God of Thunder. This brings me way back. This piece isn't incredible or anything, but it's decent. Really more of a nostalgia piece for me. Good old DOS games. I miss those. Remember floppy disks?

I haven't listened to the Xenogears soundtrack, so I can't comment on that, but I'm definitely with you on Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. So great. Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda did outstanding work on those.

In fact, back around 2012-13, there was a 6 month timeframe where the first thing I would do when I showed up at work each day was stream the Chrono Trigger soundtrack. Then when that finished, I'd follow it with Chrono Cross. Other than being great music, the other reason I did it was that when both soundtracks were over I knew that around 6 hours of the workday had passed.

It was interesting to see a browsing history containing those 2 almost every work day. I used to joke that the boss would come in one day, sure that there was suspicious online activity, and ask what this Chrono stuff was that was constantly showing up on the company network.

I'd certainly recommend the Xenogears soundtrack as well.

Just discovered this band. If anyone likes stoner metal give em a shot. The River Guide is probably my favorite track off it, but there really isn't a bad track on here.

Got notified that this thread had some updates and it took me way back into early last year, so I spent a good bit of time listening to a lot of what's been posted here since then. I learned that some posters are into heavy/scream/hardcore metal and that's not my gig, but I did pick up a band or 2 from some on here.
I'm really digging Voyager and like Runaway among others - posted just the music from YT, not the video as it's got a ~1 min intro that's decent but I want to hear music, not watch stuff:

Also saw someone liked Awolnation's latest album and posted 2 tracks that I found alright, but I had been digging The Best about 2 weeks ago when I found that album myself.

Someone posted a Virtual Riot track and that's more my style, so I've been listening to several of those, digging Stay For A While

Lastly some have posted some game soundtracks. For me Metroid Prime's Phendrana Drifts stage music is fantastic

Little fun fact here, I was thinking of something the other day and it involved one of my best friends from elementary school. He'd get picked on for being chubby, but damn if he wasn't one of the smartest kids I knew. I decided to search for him and if he wasn't dead or in jail, maybe I'd reach out to him. Well, he's not dead or in jail, but he's the last person I would have ever expected to see in a death metal band.

It's funny you said this. I was just telling a family member that I have no clue where most my past classmates/schoolmates are. One went to the military, another went to the marines, and another went to some other country, so I heard. No idea where anyone else is. Now I'm thinking I should look them up. Wonder if any are in a band.

I'll tell you what. If this one guy I'm thinking of is currently in a death metal band, I'll give you $5. Don't get your hopes up, though. There is NO way, whatsoever, that this guy is doing that. Can't even picture it. To say that it would be 0.001% chance is an understatement.

I think he's the type to be a businessman, but who knows. It's been years since I saw this guy.

I'll try to track him down. If I can find info on him, I'll post it. And if by some seriously slim chance he's in a death metal band, you'll get five bucks. There's no way.

Thought I had maybe found him, but when I clicked on the search result next to his name, it said that he was a soldier for the confederate army during the civil war (mid 1800s). And to think my elementary school classmate had military training.

Did have some success with tracking down several other former classmates though. It's just interesting to see what they've gone on to do. Though I'm the only one who found Gametz. So I guess I win.

@PizzaTheHutt, This guy is proving very difficult to track down. Out of all the classmates I was able to track down, I wasn't able to find anything about this guy. Not a phone number, not an address, nothing. I keep my word though. When/if I find him, I'll post here what I find out. I'll laugh so hard if he turns out to be the manager for a death metal band.

A year the 11th since Daniel Johnston died, just stumbled across this while trying to find any one of his original cassettes (would trade an eyeball for one):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb08SbwY8C0

Whole memorial "concert". Notable performances for me are from Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) and his sons (0:36), Maya Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, Robin from Stranger Things) (3:33), Lucius (6:51), Cut Worms (9:59), Phoebe Bridgers (36:21) and Beck (41:42).

There's also this incredible, newly unearthed home video toward the end of Daniel writing a song (43:58) where he legit takes breaks mid-song to scribble down lyrics and whatnot to match the melodies. Pretty awesome to see his writing process, even if it's real similar to any of us who write and perform music. Just very cool to see HIM writing for some reason. His mental afflictions held him back from getting really great as as a singer, but his songwriting ability was undeniable and the stuff he's written has already stood the test of time with so many famous musicians covering his work and citing him as an inspiration.

Dude used to write an album, then record it to a cassette tape. Then put a fresh tape in, and perform the entire thing again. And then again, and again, and again. He is the epitome of "DIY". There's a great documentary about him called "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" and is one of my favorite movies, probably my favorite documentary.

I like that mid-90s to mid-00s stretch well enough. S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Make Yourself, Morning View and A Crow Left of the Murder... are all solid, they're just not a go-to band for me. I haven't listened to anything after Crow but they're definitely a real good band, just not really my style nowadays.

I'm certainly a bigger fan the earlier you go. Their new throwback sound is ok, but I agree that this timeframe was their best. I still love Light Grenades, Monuments and Melodies, and even some off of 8.

If you dug "Megalomaniac", give "Nimble Bastard" a try. It's in a similar vein.
