It's all about weight. Anything 13 ounces or less can be shipped via USPS First Class, assuming it's not large. Most games that come in a optical media case cost me no more than $3 and change with delivery confirmation when I go thru PayPal shipping.

If it's more than 13 ounces, I compare Priority and Parcel Post prices.

I just take the package to post office and have them weigh it . my printer sucks and would hate to get the weight wrong lol.

You can fit two games from almost anything in a small flat rate box, so there's no reason to pay more than $6-7 for that. First Class Package goes up to 15.99oz now, so lots of small packages can go first class for <$5.

It's only 13 and under if done retail. Online it's 15.99 and under for first class. Changed last January. If you print shipping via paypal or ebay it'll always allow 15 ounces as first class.

FYI for next time, almost all USPS shipping supplies/boxes are free. You can fit a few games into a flat rate envelope for less than $7 including tracking.

Bubble mailer PS2 game or below goes about 3-7oz packed, which is $2.70 $2.66 at 3 oz if you print your own labels at https://www.paypal.com/shipnow. Prices are due to increase soon though. have increased.

What are you guys putting down for weight? Switch games are like, 2-3oz packed max. Don't take them into the post office, just print your own labels. Here's my guide, it's pretty simple:

First Class Weight (bubble envelope assumed and one-disc games; add 1oz for each disc beyond the first which will over-compensate, but you won't be under):

PS4 game: 4oz
PS3 game: 4oz
3DS/2DS game: 3oz
PS2 game: 4oz (Steelbook 5oz)
Boxed Genesis game: 6oz
SNES cart: 3oz
GB cart: 2oz
Switch game: 3oz
Xbox One game: 3oz
Xbox 360 game: 4oz

Plug in the address, use those weights, print the label and drop it off at a PO drop box. Done.

new
1-4oz - $2.66
5oz - $2.79
6oz - $2.92
7oz - $3.05
8oz - $3.18
9oz - $3.34
10oz - $3.50
11oz - $3.66
12oz - $3.82
13oz - $4.10
14oz - $4.38
15oz - $4.66
16oz - $4.94
17oz - Eyyyyyyyy

-If you have to use a decent fitted box and some packing materials, weight's bound to go up a couple oz, so extrapolate a bit or buy a scale or something that can display ounces. You can eyeball this crap pretty easily even if you don't have a scale on hand. (2 XBO games, 3oz a pop plus one for the bubble mailer, 7oz, done)
-PS4/Xbox One games have no manuals, so they stay light.
-Xbox 360/PS2 manuals you may want to add an OZ if the manual's got some noticeable heft to it when you pick it up; games like Dragon Quest 8 PS2 with the double manual and extra disc/holder and outer cardboard, you're looking at about 7-8oz packed in a bubble mailer, so that's pretty much your high-end. Even Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are only 7oz packed, and that's as heavy as non-collection pieces go, everything else is lighter.

Keep in mind once you approach 12 oz, if it's a small single game package it's probably worth it to just send it Priority for a buck more; everyone's happier and you've got some free insurance if necessary. If it's a larger package, take advantage of First Class up to the limits.

The majority of 14oz first class packages I ship are already at about $4.30 or so iirc; bumping it up to Priority unless it's going clear to California is usually $6 average. If it's under a pound, it's generally dirt cheap. Distance and size of package matter obviously but 9x6x1 at 14oz is stupid cheap to ship Priority if you're sticking to Lower 48.

Now, a 4oz package going first class versus priority, yes, that's about $3 off.

Sending it one town over at 14 ounces is $6.70. That's minimum priority pricing. That's also hardly 'dirt cheap' for most people sending a $20 game.

Again, there's absolutely no reason to sending priority over first class. I work for the USPS, we treat the mail the same unless it's media or flats, despite whatever the estimated days of delivery tell you.

That's already obviously false. First class packages often arrive to me 2-3 days later than Priority, which takes 3 days max regardless of where it's coming from.

I honestly ...don't know how you would say something so easily disproven and then attempt to certify it by saying you worked with them; at best at this point you're ignorant of what you speak of.

Easily disproven? Wait... So you get first class packages 6 days after being sent? No you don't, unless your area is insanely rural. We process them the same and usually on the same machines. I just sent out a ton of auction sales/trades and 2/3 days later people have already hit received. No, it's not obviously false and it's bizarre why you'd get so defensive.

Your price was wrong and you got annoyed at that, your time is wrong and now you're pulling some Trump nonsense. Since I have first hand knowledge of it, I can safely say you're wrong with that as well.

The way I'm reading this, is that purchasing shipping via PayPal or eBay is Commerical, rather than Retail, so that's why we're still not paying $3.50 to ship a 4oz PS4 game, for instance. I haven't shipped out anything in the past couple of days, but I imagine it would be closer to the $3 mark (listed at $2.66 - I'm sure eBay/Paypal take some sort of cut in this offering).

EDIT: actually, I take that back. I did send something out on Monday (8oz package), and was charged $3.18 through eBay, which is the exact rate from the USPS link.

Not trying to get defensive (Well I wasn't, but obviously NOW I am), just confused as to why you'd say first class is treated and gets transit the same as Priority when I can go back literal decades (if they still tracked, so you'll have to take my word for it, but it still happens to this day regardless) in my shipping history on eBay and easily show evidence of shipments taking 4-5 (Longest I can track is seven ship to door with one federal holiday thrown in the mix, so technically it's still 5) days to get to their destination shipping First Class, while Priority is without fail 2-3 days regardless of where it's going. So I had to assume you either didn't know better or thought that's how it worked and preached it as Gospel even though you were wrong, which is what I was alluding to. That's not the case. They're not treated identically. They're treated differently. I wasn't saying first class "takes 6 days", said nothing of the sort, but I alluded to the fact that it CAN take extended time versus Priority. Obviously. Because it can and does, frequently. And that's all I was saying.

I'm sorry, now even the weight of games is in contest. I give up! I can't argue against your black magics, man. I leave the advice in your capable Wizard hands. Oh, wait, this is yet another over/misuse of the word "literal", I get it now. By literally everything you mean "everything I'm currently pointing at", gotcha. Wrong even there, but I like it.

'Cept for one thing. For the record, for those keeping score today, my "buck" statement was off, I apologize. A package going from my location to Kansas that would cost $4.66 First Class would cost $7.04 shipped Priority, so it's not a dollar, it's closer to two and a quarter. It's not nothing. It may be closer to what I was suggesting depending on the distance it's going but honestly I don't care to check since it looks like Alpha's got this all sorted for me, I'm just wrong about it. Mea culpa.

But holy crap, let's talk about getting defensive; I was just sharing my own experience. My experience with First Class vs Priority on packages close to a pound was a bit dated it looks like, but the rest of my information being wrong in "literally everything I've said in this thread" seems a bit hyperbolic, since I'm talking weights (which aren't wrong) and yes, a 3oz package mailed First Class still only costs $2.66 using Paypal shipping. 1-4 hits that bracket, each ounce beyond that is now scaling upward. Not even TWO days ago 4-7oz were all $2.70 flat for my shipping at the start of the week before they scaled up again. Or at least that's what Paypal said it'd charge me to ship when comparing FC to Priority. Maybe they're fudging wrong, too. Who knows.

But thank you for bringing me back to the thread. My original post has become much more useful now.

I don't always have to be right, but when you're wrong it doesn't matter

No. First class packages and priority packages of this size (really anything under 2 lbs) are put on a SPBS machine. I'm NOT asking if it's true. I'm telling you for 100% fact that you're wrong. This isn't an opinion, it's where the item goes. If it's a large priority box, it gets put on a rapistan machine. That rapistan also (gasp!) does first class items if they're the size of a game, or basically anything that isn't a flat or a refrigerator.

Again, I'm not asking you. As someone that's working on these machines for 13 years, I'm telling you. That's the end of that.

> I wasn't saying first class "takes 6 days", said nothing of the sort

"First class packages often arrive to me 2-3 days later than Priority, which takes 3 days max regardless of where it's coming from."

3+3 = 6

No. From USPS.com:

"Priority MailŪ
Shipping in 1--3 Business Days"

"First-Class Mail...Mail in 1--3 Business Days...with delivery in 3 business days or less"

Source:
https://www.usps.com/ship/mail-shipping-services.h...

Also:
"Priority: 1--3 Days"
First Class: Estimated 1--3 Days"

Source:
https://www.usps.com/ship/welcome.htm

If something is fudgeed up it's on your or your carriers end. USPS and the machines treat both forms of mail equally.

You shouldn't have an issue with bubble mailers counting as a large envelope. It's not a rigid box so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm of the belief that First Class and Priority have different delivery times. I believe Priority is a guaranteed 2-3 day delivery, while First Class aims to be 1-3 days, but it's not guaranteed. I know that from being on this site for 19 years and doing hundreds of trades. I believe AlphakirA when he says USPS processes them on the same machine, but I wonder if the receiving post office and the delivery post office then sort them differently before they go through any machines.

They do have e different delivery times, and I'm getting tired of my phrasing being twisted because apparently HE has to be right. They're at some level handled differently and delivered differently, I don't really care what machine they're sorted on, and him telling me I'm wrong is at least equally as hillarious to me as me telling him he doesn't understand how mail works must be to him, because I'm not delusional. First Class has "business days" in the description, Priority doesn't, which probably explains the discrepancies in my experiences and his denials. First class they probably also largely shrug if something's gone wrong and transit is delayed, where a more concerted effort to hit the 2-3 day window is spent for priority logistics.

I'm glad he's done though!

We have 7 days from pickup to delivery on a first class shipment that, had it been shipped Priority, would have been delivered that Thursday instead of almost a week after shipping. Which, as I said, can often happen, it's certainly not uncommon for a first class item to get to the recipient more than 3 days after shipping. I didn't say it ALWAYS happened, I didn't say every time I ship first class it takes six days, no more no less to get to where it's going. My entire point the whole time was "Gee, if I'd spent another $1 2.25 to ship this Priority, golly, I bet the receiver would have been a lot happier with me and not docked me a star for delivery time." raspberry

COULD THIS have happened Priority? I'm sure! Does it happen as often? In my personal experience, which I now feel the need to explicitly state is BEYOND your point of conjecture, no. Is this me cherry-picking? Absolutely. I'm sure if he saw a first class shipment that took 5 days from pickup to drop-off it didn't hit his copy-pasta too, and like I said, it's not that it happens all the time, it's that it DOES happen. That was me going back a couple weeks on my eBay shipments because I'm lazy. I know I could find more instances where Priority would have been delivered before first class.

But you know what? Throw out all my posts. MY BAD. [steps back with arms splayed, spits on the ground]

We stopped "guarantee" a couple of years ago (I believe 3 years this past Jan 1st). We changed the "standard" to save money. They abolished a bunch of night jobs and converted them to day bids to save on overnight pay and basically slowed the mail slightly to save on overtime. If you notice priority mail no longer says guaranteed on the site, only express does. "The expected delivery date does not come with a money-back guarantee" is now what they say. It used to be 2 days "guaranteed" because we used to emphasize priority a bit more, now it's all about numbers.

4 days, including Sunday. Basically as I said above. We've changed the standard, and as per my example, it would've been sent the same speed if it was sent priority. And really, sometimes packages just take awhile, doesn't matter how it's sent.

Part of why it says that it can get there quicker on the site via priority is because we now do Sunday delivery but only for priority. That's literally the only difference. Basically the clerks/carriers in the PO will pull out the priority to deliver if it's Sunday, otherwise everything is exactly the same.

I've filtered that Dave guy,I now remember he was the same guy that had this know it all problem back when we were talking about the Switch months back. I think it filters both ways so if he comes back with another snarky response feel free to quote this if you choose.
