I'm considering upgrading my 2GB AMD Radeon 6950. It has served me extremely well these past few years, but I'm tired of playing some of the newer games on low/medium settings to avoid low FPS and lag. I might upgrade before Christmas, will probably want to keep it around $300 or less but want something that'll last me another couple of years, so I might go higher especially if it's for Christmas.

Current build:
i7 3820 @ 3.60ghz
2GB AMD Radeon 6950
16GB RAM (should I consider going to 32gb which is my mobo's max?)
1TB SSD running Windows 10

I would say a EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB like this, though it's currently out of stock:

If you can catch one on sale, you should hit right around $300.

Spring for a 1070 if at all possible. Yes, it's kind of springing for a higher-end card, but it'll last you a lot longer than a 1060 will. hopefully in a month or two the mining craze will die down and you can get a card for its retail price.

Yeah that's the good thing, I am not in a huge hurry and would rather spring a bit more for the better card that'll last me longer. I think I've had this current one since 2013.

I don't, but I think bitcoins are basically impossible to mine anymore. It's all about Etherium.

Was going to get into mining them a few years back, but there's no point now.
