It always makes me facepalm whenever I see people get triggered over February. They often have a nice list prepared of all the reasons that black history month is foolish, slanderous, misguided, demonstrably racist, and they're happy to quip facts and numbers at people whenever it's suggested that you simply... let African Americans enjoy celebrating their culture and learn about where they came from, to put into perspective where they are today.

I have a challenge for you. This month, and I know this is literally going to kill a few people... When someone makes a post about it on your timeline, when a news article crosses your dash, when you're THINKING of raising your shields and firing off all your torpedoes... I challenge you to shut the fudge up.

For 25 more days. Just kinda... let it slide past you. Pretend you didn't see it. I know you're probably bursting at the seams to demonstrate to everyone in eyesight your grasp of the subject matter and why everything they say and know is wrong, but this year, for Lent, I want you to give up being a pretentious assbag and just let a group of people you obviously do not respect... exist and immerse themselves in themselves. Because when you lay down all your protests and facts aside, honestly, at the end of February, I think you'll notice that very little has changed. For better or worse. And all you had to do was simply shut the fudge up. For a LITTLE bit. And try to remember that, even though someone may be wrong, there are times when... YOU are wrong, too!

JUST A LITTLE BIT!

Let's see how many people are up to the challenge, and how many people just can't help themselves. Let's see how many people... simply CANNOT help but inject themselves into something that isn't about them. But let's also see how many people can, through effort and determination, make themselves actual better human beings by simply exhibiting some self-control.

If you've gotten this far, I believe in you!

Just another thing where someone has to make a big deal over probably a few isolated things. Manufacturing an issue basically.

Everyone I know just doesn't care either way. You want to celebrate a specific skin color inventing things and orating and pioneering that's fine, it doesn't have any negative effect on my life.

But there's some out there who think it's stupid, divisive, and does more harm than good by continuing this obsessive attention on separation by skin color, I guess when they say something it triggers liberals, who have to always find something to be offended by.

That is just a real stupid way to look at things. Black people have been enslaved, treated brutally when they were freed and have for much of the nations history been marginalized. Black people have been systematically deprived of their culture to the point where none of them really know which country their ancestor's came from without doing a DNA test. Their dark skin and shared history is the only thing that unites them. Let them have their month to celebrate what shared history they do have.

Every people have been enslaved. Even now more black people are enslaved by other black people as we speak. Slavery in any form is disgusting and we know that. We don't have a Jew history month...

We're all in this melting pot together. Let's just evolve together.

If black people want to celebrate black accomplishment for a month I'm cool with it, I've got zero issues, all I'm saying is don't get triggered when someone is a little offended because one race is singled out above all others. Remember this is forced on kids in schools, I can see where some parents might take issue.

But agains I've yet to see anyone say anything about it.

I'm an optimist and it honestly doesn't bother me at all, easy enough to explain to your kids about these things and how they get politicized for personal gain reasons.

It helps if you understand why someone might not think this is a great idea. You basically go sjw start a thread preemptively calling out all the bigots when no one mentioned anything here about it, thereby invented a problem.

The saddest thing about your post is that it exemplifies exactly why we need a Black History month.

One would think we would have a native american history month if we actually cared about missteps in our nation. Personally my views align more with Hoteps, why limit yourself to one month? Be proud of who you are and your heritage everyday! The biggest problem I think I have with Black History month is focusing on people that were known commies and commie sympathizers, I unironically like Malcolm X more than MLK.

Most may not think about it but the leaders and officials certainly do. Similar to how we elect people to deal with any of our concerns and wishes. I seriously doubt the average american is thinking about taxes, healthcare, or immigration reform more than 1% of their free time but they still have opinions on it.

There are a lot of Native American Groups and movements. Remember they had been almost completely eradicated and silenced through colonialism. There is also a Native American History month, Asian/Pacific Islanders Month, Women's month, Latin/Hispanic heritage month.

As far as opinions go nothing is being forced on anyone's children. That's such a chicken crap response as to why people would not like black history month.

And Morgan Freeman is right Black history sbould be celebrated every month.

MLK, Mandela, Parks, etc. are all taught in school by the state with a one sided view. Do you think that if a kid did a report for black history month that said MLK was a fraud that colluded with commies or Mandela was a known terrorist and sourced it would they be given passing marks?

Just a simple illustration of what is considered ok can often be considered controversial. MLK was a crapty person- history bears this out. It's a forest for the trees thing. Some things are redeemable and do not detract from the accomplishment that is celebrated.

Jesus never touched a woman but preached on the hardships of life. Not exactly someone who knew much about male hardships. Now ( then?)he's the son of god and god himself. Looking past humanity for the greater good is not so far of a stretch.

Stop the whataboutism, I asked a specific question because the reality is that they would not pass if they handed in a negative report that was backed by facts. They would be ordered to redo it and possibly see a councilor and/or principle. There is a fact that schools push certain narratives.

Oh jeez. First of all, there is nothing wrong with sympathizing with communism/socialism. I mean...jeez louis. Its just an ideology which promised to abolish social classes and bring about equality for all. Martin Luther King's ancestors were enslaved. He lived in a society saw his people lynched, had peaceful protestors get set upon by dogs and police armed with batons and fire hoses? Why would he find communism attractive?

You have some f*cking nerve. Getting all self righteous in the same topic you play the "other people have suffered too" card when told about what black people have suffered in America. But the Jews have suffered so much? Why should black people get a month and not the Jews. You know what a--hole. The Brits gave the Jews their own gosh darn country. They just carved one out of other people's land. For our part we have done everything in our power to protect Israel even when Israel does f-ed up stuff like take over more land and what is supposed to be an independent Palestinian state. Our steadfast support and protection of Israel is one of the things that makes us a target. We're dodging hijacked airplanes for what we do ever day for the Jewish people. Let black people have their month. It is literally the least we could do.

I find it extremely ironic that people like you rail on about how bad nationalism is and constantly compare it to people like Hitler (who more importantly was a socialist) and at the same time have no issue with an extremely deadly ideology.

People are unequal, that's just a fact you're never, ever going to get away from. Unless you want to introduce force/compulsion.

You're not making any sense, you're too emotional about something you literally know nothing about.

You want to fit in and be part of the "solution" that's cool and all and you obviously have some Jew issues, did you actually say they "gave" them their own country? That's so insulting on so many levels.

Look, I'm sure they'll make you an honorary African American this month, you can be empathetic and join in the struggle. But you're not doing much about actual issues.

I don't need to be a part of any group. I just have a need to point out a-holes where I see them. And people who respond to the suffering endured by a people with "other people have suffered as well" are a-holes. When people try to play the who suffered more game you lose. You have accomplished something amazing. By trying to give perspective on the suffering of others you actually manage to show that you have no real understanding of how other people have suffered.

You may be a good person. I won't dismiss that possibility. But in this case you're an a-hole.

The emotion is obvious where it stands. Really good to see this.

And the emotional maturity I might add.

Of course,
what else would we expect from a self hating white maclemore type.

Dude you're righteous, we get it. I'll get you a medal or whatever. You're in the empathy group, you're sorry for slavery. Whatever helps you sleep at night..

First of all, I am not white either. Hopefully you'll stop deflecting and recognize how you've been a prick on this issue.

Weighing one groups suffering against another is just stupid.

I'll admit I'm a prick when you admit you're here for the social justice feel good. There's one person deflecting here and it's not me.

Just be honest with yourself and let's move on... Honestly I don't even care. Whatever you want to think is fine.

Read this thread again and see if you see any reason to write him off as opposed to engage.

Clearly that's my only reason.....

You don't need to talk to me if you don't want to though. There are plenty of other people who can act intellectually superior to everyone around them.

Not about that friend. I'll always talk to you. I'm not a actor.

You make me less angry than some others who post here, so I'll allow it.

I just don't get why you guys hate on this dude. He's trying to fit in and have a voice. Let's see his POV and engage. Nothing he says is absolutely as irreconcilable as you guys paint it. Bust his balls and make him man up.
