I've been a huge fan of their vast array of topics, political and non-political, and have been able to comfortably KNOW, being an avid listener, that they generally keep the optics on the story and less on the slant (which they obviously have, every outfit does). That's been shifting slightly, but not to a degree I've been uncomfortable with, generally speaking. A few of their interviews have been crap but largely, even through the incoming rant, the news remains news, intact.
Two reviews in the past week they've shared have rubbed me the wrong way.As The Pop World Seeks Accountability, Justin Timberlake Seems Lost In The Woods'A.P. Bio' And The Complications Of Context
In the latter, about halfway through the analysis it went completely off the rails, stopping at "It actually executes its humor well!" and then veers hard left into "But is this really what we need to be seeing? I
get to choose what I want to consume and I
am so sick of this abusive power -blah blah-" and this goes on for over half the write-up. I feel like NPR's fired good talent and hired Jezebel dropouts or something, and MAYBE this is how their media reviews have been for some time, but from what I can personally remember, usually they stuck to the fudging subject matter and focused less on their own personal feelings on what the artist SHOULD be doing with their time instead of what they DID.
I'm getting grossed out. Some people complain when entertainers inject politics into their public oration (how dare someone who entertains me have an opinion??? unless it's mine, in which case it's fine and I'll quote it); I know to some degree reviews have a high element of opinion, but when you're discussing your overarching political feelings more than what you're talking about, it's a diary entry, not an analysis or review. It's also incredibly nonhelpful. Maybe Man of the Woods sucked because it was crapty music? And not because of his "white male privilege"? Fudge me.Full disclosure: I can still listen to and enjoy Justified and Future Sex/Love Sounds even with his WMP
