So I was on Youtube late last night and it showed a live debate between Ben Shapiro and Cenk Uygur at Politicon 2017. I had never heard of Politicon before, but looking at the website it looks rather cool. Do they normally have left vs right debates each year? I love this kind of stuff and will have to look out for it in the future.

Did you end up watching the debate? What are your thoughts?

As far as I know this is something Politicon does. Ben Shapiro is extremely intelligent and I wouldn't want to debate that the earth is round with him. Cenk, in my opinion, is a blowhard who spent the debate insulting the audience and telling them to google stuff (which ironically went against his points when you actually googled them). He was this way with Dinesh D'Souza as well. Not really debate material. I'd much rather see Ben in the pit with Sam Harris or even Noam Chomsky.

Cenk is kind of a dick. Im not gonna lie. I like because we share similar views but yes he can be pretty condescending towards conservatives. I'm sure its much more annoying since you don't agree with him.

The condescension doesn't bother me at all. I think it's embarrassing for him, especially in a debate setting. I just wish Ben could debate someone on the left who actually knows how to debate. He had a debate with Sally Kohn earlier in the year. I think Sally is slightly more intelligent/articulate that Cenk, but it was still a slaughter. This isn't just my bias here either, Ben is just really good at debating and deserves a better opponent.

Who would you choose?

Isn't Cenk considered one of the leaders on the Progressive side? In my opinion the debate is fitting then. Overall I loved the debate. I'm biased though because I love Shapiro. I did feel Shapiro was weak the first 18 minutes though. I truly enjoyed how they both were able to debate back and forth and continue with questions back and forth. I wish more debates were like that. With Politicon, I had never heard of it before, but will definitely follow in the future.

Not a leader as much as a talking head. Talking heads are what they are just people with opinions. They are great for making news anchors and stuff but not for debates. Leave the debates to intellectuals not butt-holes with opinions. All to often progressives tend to condecsend. So do conservatives. I get it there is only so much bullcrap from the right I can take but, I also have to learn to curb that too. Heres the thing I watched the debate and noticed that ita hard to pivot from confirmatuon bias. Cenk also was not cery condescending at all. Not as he typically is on TYT. Good points made by both sides. I gotta be honest with Nines I could put any person in front of you to debate a conservative and you'll tell me the conservative is the better debater. Your bias will choose for you. Its all subjective. There isn't a point to looking at debates as duals. They are just an exchange of ideas. We have to stop looking at them as title fights.

Agreed.

Are you sure you watched it?

I certainly DO NOT view them in that way and I have watched countless debates in my life. I was in the debate team in high school and ever since it's something I enjoy. I often watch debates with my wife. I believe challenging myself in this way has helped me grow intellectually. 10-15 years ago I was a vegan socialist. I don't think I need to say that I've come a long way.

There are many issues I agree with liberals on, including ending the drug war and criminalizing assault of children.

If I was given the choice of picking someone on the right, Ben Shapiro would be a top choice, then maybe Stefan Molyneux. If I was to pick someone on the left probably Sam Harris or Noam Chomsky. This is because these people are intellectuals and can handle themselves in a debate setting very well. If Cenk fits this definition for the left, I'm afraid that's not good news lol.

Once again, who would you choose?

I didn't and won't watch, so I know you're not addressing me personally.

These debates are just directors cuts of popular broadcast newscasts. Crossfire: Uncensored! But I'll bite.

For pure debate purposes -- Maajid Nawaz is who I'd choose.

Ben Shapiro, while maybe book-smart and sometimes showings signs of common sense...

... is just what @POG would call "Zionist", and a hateful chicken who when not studied for a public debate just likes to avoid the tough questions about his views on Conservatism. But never misses a chance to bash a liberal while calling for friendly political discourse.

I have no idea who Cenk Uygur is.

I certainly don't share the same stance as Shapiro on Trump, but I appreciate what he brings to the table. I have nothing against him for his Jewish heritage. I appreciate someone answering this question though. I'll check out this person in more detail.

I'm fairly sure you don't know who Cenk is because he is an embarrassment for the left.
