I had to make a thread here because I was clogging up the NFL discussion thread with Politics. So I moved a conversation here.

For those unaware, Vince McMahon announced that he's bringing back the XFL in 2020.

From the NFL thread:

That's not what I find controversial.

The fact that Vince McMahon, who is Trumps old friend and who's wife serves in Trumps cabinet, is re-launching a defunct football organization. With rules reportedly specifically keeping players from protesting, which is a hot issue for Trump fans who are confused as to the protesters intentions.

All of this after Trump preemptively attacks the NFL, and suggest his fans stop watching, and protest themselves. McMahon is using his political connections to better his foothold in the market fairly blatantly. And Trump has no qualms about using his power and influence to assists his friends ventures.

You Conservatives used to denounce this sort of action.

Someone should start a competing league where all of the players are required to kneel during the National Anthem. Free market!

Sounds like this league will consist of the ghost of Reggie White and Tim Tebow. No DUIs, lol. Christian football is awesome.

Tons of companies wouldn't hire someone with a DUI, or other arrests. Not sure that's a "Christian" thing.

Omg so excited about this!

Another football league in America, I'm going to watch from day fudging one.

I'm pretty stunned on how you liberals managed to turn this into something political. His company, his rules. Not really sure what the issue is, one of you can start a women's football league where they have to kneel and I'd be cool with it.

I'm not saying he shouldn't start it again. It's his money. Go to town.

I just don't understand how you could not see the problem with what is obvious political favoring. He's (re)starting a failed football league with rules specifically geared towards Trumps attacks on the NFL. Considering the ties these two have, I can't understand why it wouldn't bother you. It's blatant political/corporate piggy-backing which seems contrary to the typical conservative ideals. Well, outside of Washington anyway.

Trumps damages an American pastime with blatant misinformation, and his buddy comes in and starts a competing league? Nothing seems fishy to you?

Trump is quite upset with his football history. Most of you probably aren't familiar? He's definitely going to be involved in some form.

It sounds like you're twisting his motives to me. He specifically said he wanted it to be apolitical, which is why he doesn't want kneeling.

So you're adding politics and conspiracy to someone who just wants politics out of his business venture.

All this weird and random rhetoric about Trump and his "buddy" I mean I don't know what you think conservatives think but as a more conservative minded person I want the government out of private businesses, they just ruin crap.

So it's his business, he wants politics out and I support it because I'm tired of a sport I enjoy being dragged thru these ignorant social issues anyways.

McMahon has worked with Trump on numerous occasions on television. He inducted Trump into his Hall of Fame. Trump nominated McMahons wife, Linda McMahon to his cabinet as Administrator of the Small Business Administration. Her qualifications are basically losing tens of millions in 2 failed Senate runs.

Calling him his "buddy" is just fact, not conspiracy. They're tight, brother.

I'm not saying their not tight, I'm saying his league is apolitical. And that you're adding a bunch of weird conspiracy out of nothing. No facts.

I have a lot of very good friends who I'd take a bullet for that are liberals, doesn't mean crap for my personal life or business dealings.

I give the league 2 seasons this times before it runs it's course and fades away. I don't see this hurting the NFL.

interested to see the prospective owners who show interest, shortage of QBs may also dictate running college type offenses

Is that not how the XFL originally ran? The players were also paid by the league... I kinda liked that aspect but the infield product was an absolute joke! I don't see that Changing much.... The only league I could see it hurt would be the CFL, but it survived last time and it will do so again.

I am ok with the XFL. The NFL is probably ok with it as well. It would be nice for the NFL to have a place where guys who aren't ready for the big time can get more seasoning. It will also give these guys a chance to make money doing what they love to do.
