Really into Persona 5 on my PS4 right now and it's making my long for my old PS2 to play some of the older Persona games. I think i need to buy a PSP or Vita to get to play them but not sure which is better. I know the Vita has the Persona 4 game which was very cool. but I'm mainly into RPG games and most of them are JRPGs.

any help is appreciated!

Check the PSN store for RPGs you're either looking to play specifically or may be interested in (I think past Persona's including the PSP entries are on their), and if the games you're interested in are their, get a Vita. The Persona games and other RPGS regularly go on sale. This way, you have access to Vita games as well (like Tales of Heart R, Final Fantasy X/X-2 and the full Legend of Heroes series since you have a PS4 too), plus the better screen and the ability to map buttons to either touch screen and the right analog stick (which is a decent scheme for PSP twin-stick shooters are games that use the face buttons for camera movement).

vita for sure, most of the good psp stuff is on psn and you get the vita stuff too, and vita has a lot of jrpgs as well. you can play persona 1, persona 2 innocent sin, P3 portable and P4 golden on vita as well. persona 5 is greatness. the trails in the sky stuff is super good but trails in the sky 3rd is looking like it may only ever be PC only so you may want to play that there if that's an option. the plus versions of a lot of the atelier games are on there, along with disgaea etc. and you can get the vita tv/pstv now pretty cheap and a lot of it can be played on your tv. vita is a jrpg treasure trove.
for jrpg lovers PS4 and vita is a great setup

Vita all the way. It's been well-supported in Japan even after it's demise in north america.

This confused me a bit, but I think you mean Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel I and II, and Trails in the Skiy FC and SC?
Because Legend of Heroes 1 to 3 are PSP only.

Oh yes, you're right. The renumbered remakes released on PSP never made it to PSN.

Just keep in mind that Vita has expensive memory cards that are about 100$ on average for the 64gb. I think there are other options/alternatives if you needs lots of memory. I do have a Vita myself and Vita with an expensive memory card didn't stop me from being able to play quality games on the Vita.

ya the 64gb cards are crazy, but the 16s can be had pretty easily and aren't that pricey, ive even got one I could hook you up with a good price if you go vita and need one ,that holds several games, and how many will you play at a single time anyway? the 64 would be nice but its not at all necessary. the psp is just so dated, the digital store is no longer there on the psp itself, you have to dl to ps3 and transfer, whereas the vita is and will likely be for awhile. vita systems, even the first gen OLEDs are no more than a hundred or only slilghtly more, and the non OLED can be had for less, so they aren't that expensive

I honestly would skip the 64GB and stick with a couple 32GB. I've just read too many accounts of the 64GB corrupting data. I keep one 32GB for PSP games and one for everything else. I have plenty of space on both, but also only have maybe three retail sized Vita games downloaded. It's an easy switch out as long as the system is off while you're doing it.

UPDATE: Just worked out a trade with Luminous for a Vita plus games! so ready for the fun! Now to get Persona 4. I'll probably have to share the game with my son. we're having too much fun with Persona 5 right now. I do all the mundane daily stuff like go to school and talk people up and he gets to do all the fighting.

Thanks to everyone for the help and advice for this. can't wait to stock up my Vita collection!

that part of P5 was so good I enjoyed it just as much as the dungeons and combat, and more so at times. I got tips for days on p5, its my #1 jrpg ever, knocking off the mighty ff7 after 20 years, I could talk about it all day.
