Half-Life -- Game of the Year Edition (PC)

Summary

This GOTY Edition of the great FPS, Half-Life, offers you more online play and in many cases, Team Fortress Classic is included!

Description

This GOTY Edition of Half Life is basically the same as the original game, but patches have been included as well as some additions to the muliplayer mode of this game.
As I mentioned in the summary, one of the multiplayer mods that is sometimes included with this version is Team Fortress Classic.
This was originally meant as an expansion for Half Life, but quickly became a very popular online gaming world that many Half-Life fans love. This classic multiplayer mod is ALL about team work, and working with your squad to eliminate any monsterous threat. There are also some typical team-based games like "capture the flag" included in Team Fortress Classic.

Gameplay in this game is excellent. It is a large game, with 18 different levels or missions. The interface is easy to use, and it is from a first-person perspective, so most of the gaming screen shows the area that you happen to be in. I would have liked to have seen some more levels added to the single player campaign for this GOTY Edition.

The graphics in this game are good. They are a little dated, but not too bad. If you consider when this game first came out, then I think you would probably consider its graphics very comparable to what was out then. The environments are detailed, and for the most part, you are exploring an underground complex.

The learning curve is excellent in this game. There is a tutorial section in the main menu called the Hazard Course, and if you decide to go through this course, you will learn everything you need to know to play Half-Life.

Although there is NOT any additional gameplay added for the single player missions, there is plenty of new stuff added to the multiplayer games in this GOTY Edition. So for that reason, I would consider the replay value for the GOTY Edition of Half-Life to be higher than the original Half-Life.

The sound is good in this game. The weapons had an authentic sound to them. The monsters had their own unique sound to them, not sure if you would call it a voice, because most of them just grunted or squealed....LOL. The guards and other civilians had voices that were easy to understand, and that helps when you are needing to obtain information from them.

Pick this game up, and help Gordon Freeman escape the Black Mesa complex!

Your Fellow Gamer,
Bobby
