Saturday Night (Aaron Carter)
Reviewed by: Nintendo (reviews) on 16-Jul-2005 1 Available - 0 WantedBuy: $0.24 Summary Saturday Night is Aaron's strongest single to date, and a very promising transition song - showing Aaron attempting to slide from Radio Disney towards Top 40 radio. |
Description
Aaron Carter has been fairly silent on the music scene for the past couple of years. His most recent album, 2002's Another Earthquake, was his weakest selling album to date so the album marked an appropriate time for Aaron to take a couple of years off from releasing new material. But this year, Aaron is back with a new single titled Saturday Night from his forthcoming album.
The song is certainly just a pop song at heart and in that sense is no different than what you may hear on Radio Disney anytime, except for the fact that this song is really Aaron's first single that has a more digestible Top 40 sound. It's a song about partying, and it has a fresh beat and fun melody to match this theme. The singing is spot-on and the rapping during the song's bridge is vintage Aaron. All in all, it's a great transition song as Aaron moves closer to a more mainstream-pop sound and less of the Radio Disney-exclusive sound found in his previous albums.
Also found on the disc are three remixes. First is the DJ Pezz Urban Mix that is very similar to the original version, except with fewer guitars, a slightly altered beat, and a bit more emphasis on the vocals rather than the arrangement itself. The DJ Roonie G Mix is worth listening to a few times, but can become tiresome as it is almost based entirely around one synthline that really doesn't fit all that well within the song. Finally, the Double J Dancehall Remix is found which is forgettable. The song is given a more danceable beat and the vocals are slapped through all sorts of digital effects, resulting in a less-than-pleasant remix. But don't let my sub par impressions of the remixes get you down; the original mix of Saturday Night is well worth the $2-4 you'll pay for the single.
The song has been a success since its March release. It is only Aaron's 2nd single to be certified Gold by the RIAA, the first being Aaron's Party (Come Get It) from five years ago. The song has also received significantly more radio play and support on Top 40 stations than any Aaron single has to date. People are definitely enjoying this song, and for good reason; it's a really solid song about just having a good time. That's something we can all appreciate.
