Summary

The village of Antonio Bay get an added surprise for their 100th anniversary celebration in the form of specters of long-murdered sailors that swear revenge on the town and its people.

Description

This latest edition of John Carpenter's "The Fog" is perhaps the best yet. This version of the film is displayed in the original 2.35:1 widescreen format and has been remastered in high definition so there is no more odd shrinkage of characters on screen or unnecessary stretching which gives the film a more refined look over past versions. Also the high definition is wonderful even on non-high definition enabled televisions as I have noticed several scenes that are clearer and one can notice more detail than in previous renditions of the film. The Digital 5.1 Surround Sound doesn't hurt either as it sounds great when in comparison to the previous mono and stereo versions.

The story takes place in the village of Antonio Bay, California. It is their 100th anniversary and they are about to get a visit from long-murdered sailors who descend upon the town to unleash their wrath. It is a classic ghost/zombie story that was given "Crisply Chilling" by Newsweek. There is also a new remake version of this film that is in theaters as of Oct. 15th, 2005 and if you buy this specific version of "The Fog" at certain retailers you will get a free movie pass to see the remake at certain theaters.

Bottom line if you want a good scare go for this film. At $9.99 it is definitely the best buy of all the various versions that are out there and if you plan on seeing the remake and your retailer is seller the version that contains the free movie ticket you'll only be actually paying around $2 for the DVD and you just can't beat that. I do recommend watching the remake first however as you can understand so much more about the original versions plot from the way they did that particular film.
