Not sure if it's ever been discussed, and not sure how valuable it is really...but a few times, I've agreed with a trader to make changes to our deal after it's pended. This requires one user to delete the trade, no?

Is there a way to edit a trade after it's pending? Obviously only if both parties agree to it (which could be a required action taken by both parties).

I feel like it could be helpful.

At least as helpful as the Philips CD-i icon.

I have fond memories of the CD-i (Compact Disc Interactive) (really)

usually when this happens we just both make a note in the trade in bold letters or something, but I can see where you are going with this idea, like a "submit a change" thing and if the other user agrees it would do it, otherwise it would just they declined or whatever.

I've normally just created a new deal or a second deal. The only downside is showing that one of you cancelled the original trade but if the other trader doesn't object I think it doesn't show up on your bio?

I don't know that I trust edits to existing deals to be honest.

This definitely happens but it would be challenging to fix in some way. The trouble is all that "both sides agreeing" stuff and also the internal way offers/trades link to items being traded.

Offhand, it seems like I'd have to add more states to the offer/trade to support that. For example, "trader1 requests revert-to-offer" then trader2 could agree to it or not. Then, if so, a ton of stuff would need to be done to remove the existing trade and revert the offer in some way (similar to canceling a trade, but different too). But, I'd have to consider what to do if the other trade didn't agree (that's a big sign of trouble, right?). And, also if this could be used by a trader seeking to rip the other off or something bad like that. Or, add some way to propose an edit to an existing trade, but there's no clear way to store both the old "what's being traded and how" state while allowing for a new version. Offers can do that because the state is always in flux until both agree, but once it's a pending trade, the offer isn't meant to be edited.

Basically, the way it was all written, offers are meant to be where changes can happen to what the agreement is, but trades are like contracts that are never altered. Of course, this isn't exactly what happens in all cases. But, I do hope most traders try to get it right the first time.

I can and do edit trades after-the-fact (as people have mentioned), but even this is quite tricky to do. Minimally, I could try to improve my trade editing tools. But, even that is hard to do as far as I can tell. The items in a trade are encoded a certain way. So, I have to edit encoded text by hand to do it. If I mess up the encoding, all these weird characters spew out. Also, before I do an edit like that, I should message the other trader to make sure they are OK with it. I used to do that more, but now I tend to just do it and hope they agree to save time/effort. I can always edit it back, if they don't, right?

The other ways to workaround this that people have mentioned should be considered, of course. I just don't see any great way to fix this.

It shouldn't matter much, because I'm not really concerned about having deleted trades on my account raspberry But it just feels like a strike against a user that deletes the trade, even if it's a mutually agreed upon change. Could there be an option for BOTH people to agree on the trade deletion, then it doesn't show up as a deleted trade on anyone's account?

Again, this is just a thought...I think 1000 good trades on my record outweighs a deleted trade here and there, but for some people it might be a nice thing to have. OR - if you don't mind us emailing you or the mods, then people can keep doing that I suppose!

You shouldn't have a deleted trade. The other person has the option to remove the deleted trade from your record, which they should do for you.

When a trade is canceled, the other trader can remove it immediately (there's a remove link on it for them). Or, if they don't respond to it for 3 days, it gets automatically deleted.

Responding to a canceled trade makes it stay in place... responses should be made when the cancel is done in a way that displeases the other trader involved.

If a trader has no canceled trades within the last year, they are not shown.
If that have any canceled trades withing the last year, all are shown (even old ones from years ago).

tl;dr - ask dunno001 to remove the recent one and the old one will not be shown too.

It's even possible to talk Finny into removing the old canceled trade... maybe some way to make it up to him....

It's also worth noting that the history log is only visible to the traders involved, not to other people who might see the canceled trade (unless you post a screenshot of it in the forum - then everyone and their mother can read it).

I've cleared it. Did I overlook the option upon receipt of the cancellation notice to click on the okay button, or is that something more buried than it should be? Like you said, it goes away after 3 days anyway, but I thought that time did have to manually pass.

I assume you got an email when Admiral canceled. The offer has the message it sends to the person being canceled upon. So you can see it here:

https://gametz.com/?A=MyOffers&View=1260170

It says:
> ...You now have a choice. If you have no problem with this trade being removed, please delete the canceled trade record...
> Use this link to view the record and either make your response or delete it:

Then links the canceled trade, where I think you can delete and/or respond depending. It's a little verbose and easy to miss stuff. I think a lot of people don't realize they can delete it, despite what it says.

Not a big deal either way.

Bill, is there anyway to look up cancelled trades where I was responding? I am mostly just curious. I think I once left a note on someone, I am trying to remember what happened.

There basically isn't a way to do that. I did some db queries and found you probably did one with axomoxia, but it's older than a year, so it's no visible.

Yeah, you were right, I found it in my offer history. I don't see my response, but I do see where he cancelled the trade. Thanks as always for the prompt response Bill.
