Hi there,

I've noticed lately that my mobile browser will get redirected to one of those "giveaway" pages when browsing the forums. I believe it might be one of the ads that is causing this, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it. Not sure if anything can be done about this, but I thought I would bring it up.

This is the address that I was redirected to:

Can you give me the URL of a page on gametz.com where it happened?

I'm not sure how it manifests, but maybe you could hit "back" and see. It's the code on the page at gametz that would have the redirect in it and thus be the source. The page it sends you to isn't that helpful as far as I know. Though, I assume it would be a pain in the butt to track down as it would likely try to redirect again when you went back...

I would tend to assume that it's some nefarious AdSense advertiser that managed to sneak past the detection they have. But, it's possible my site is hacked in some way and I should try to look at all the code on that page to see if there's anything funky.

I have no individual ad control over AdSense as far as I know. Reporting stuff to Google is like talking to a brick wall based on past experience (I've seen lots of outright fraud and reported it but never got a reply).

Googling this, I found tons of people talking about it for years in various forums. Solutions seemed to mostly be "use an ad blocker". Though, some talked about turning "ads personalization" off then on again to reset it to fix this (no idea what that does). e.g. https://support.google.com/ads/answer/2662922?hl=e...

Possibly, AdSense will discover it automatically somehow and kill the bad ad.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm sorry I don't have any easy solution.

The easy solution is to be a subscriber! You support the site and don't get crapty ads.

@bill I tried the back button but I think my browser refreshes the ad. I don't want to prevent it just for me, but try to eliminate bad ads for everyone.

@benstylus you have a good point

@Bill this is what I messaged you about a long time ago. It still happens allot. I've been saving screen shots each time it happens and can send them.

Also the animated ads make the mobile site lag real bad making typing almost impossible.

I looked up that old pm (April 2016). I responded to it with a lot of questions and you never replied. broken heart

screenshots don't help much. Really, I don't know what would help short of turning off all mobile ads (which would cause me to lose a lot of money and I make so little as it is).

It seems most likely that Google AdSense (my ad provider) has some kind of virus in its code. But, from what I found in their support pages, they think I have the virus.

It's actually possible both of you have some kind of virus. It's also possible gametz has some sort of virus, though I'd probably be getting more reports from more people if so. I can try to look through it all again to be sure.

Have you guys looked into the "Ad Personalization" setting thing?

See post at bottom of this page:

Thus, you might start here: https://support.google.com/ads/answer/2662922?hl=e... opt out of peronalized ads. Then you can opt back in if you want. I think this reset may clear it somehow. I have no idea how/why, but I've seen this solution posted in more than one place.

I did look through the Ad code I'm putting up for mobile and it's vanilla ad sense code with no default (e.g. what it would do if there's no ad to run). So, my impression is the trouble is on Google's end somehow.
