I'm just wondering if it's worth bothering with if I have the original one on Steam already.

Anybody know if there's anything new in it? Pro support? I don't remember Dark Souls I having DLC.

I have the complete versions of II and III on PS4, so it'd be nice to have all 3 "complete" versions on one console.

I can't really rank them from better to worse because I haven't played II. I think I like the environs in I better than III though. Bloodborne is by far and away my favorite in the Soulsborne universe though.

I've only played Bloodborne. Beaten it twice and every time I look at it on my shelf, I have the urge to dive in again. Easily one of the best games i've played this generation.

I currently have Dark Souls Remastered preordered for the Switch. Looking forward to finally playing it. Dark Souls did have DLC (Artorias of the Abyss) and it's included in the remaster. There are a few graphical enhancements for the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X/PC, but I don't think they've added anything new to the game. Check out this Digital Foundry article for their analysis of the PS4 Pro build of the game:

Fudge yes!!!! Day one for me.

Also ranked.

1.Demons Souls: I was there day one with this when Forgotten Freshness was praising the import. I have the original collector's edition. It made me fall in love with games again. It ranks 3 on my best of all time list. I realize that it is inferior to Dark Souls. But playing and being part of the culture of beginning of Souls/borne games will always be something I take pride in.

2. Dark Souls 3 exquisite.

3. Bloodborne. HP lovecraft in my Dark Souls? Yes please.

4. Dark Souls: So, I have a very tumultuous relationship with this game. So much so it made me skip Darks Souls 2. I was in Blight town stuck in that poorly framerated hell for weeks. I was going through the end of my marraige and personal trials. I had an unhealthy addiction to FFXIV. So the game contributed to a deep depression. Blightown was a fudging mess. I had a broken weapon and was part the point of no return, I was cursed, I was best spider lady finally and when I got out seeing the sun light really made me praise it. Than I walked to the right and a dragon vomits poison on me and I die. Fudge you DS. I finally beat the game but afterwards I quit games for two years spent a month is an actual military psychiatric hospital When I started again and returned to active duty I got a PS4. the first game I bought.

Dark Souls 3.

Im done with my story now.

1. Demons Souls (I played through on NA and EU, just picked up JP version to play again)
2. Dark Souls 1 (Played through 360 and PS3 MANY times) and yes it did have DLC!
3. Bloodborne
4. Dark Souls 3 (Played through on PS4 and just picked up the DLC to play through again)
5. Dark Souls 2 (Played through 360, PS3 and PS4 remake)

DS1 does have DLC and it introduced some really powerful hexes (cant remember if they were called a hex in DS1). This DLC was very well done and highly recommended.

The souls series is by far my favorite game series of all time(from ps3/ps4 era). I like them all, but if I had to rank them then this is it. However 2/3 are really a tie for me. 2/3 are great but just lack that little something special the other 3 have to put them over the top. I cant wait to go back and replay 1 again on new gen with active servers smile For me the main reason I finally moved on from each game was when the servers died down. I can't wait to get back to Anor Londo!

So, should I bother with DSII: Scholars of the First Sin? I usually play Soulsborne games single-player, so if there's not much of an online community it doesn't matter.

Scholar of the first sin is worth playing if you've never played DSII before.

All we need now is a Demon's Souls remaster and we could have them all on PS4. Come on Sony. Print that money.

Yeah, I still don't understand why there isn't a Demon's Souls remaster or a Bloodborne 4K remaster. As far as I'm concerned these are PlayStation IPs. I'm not interested in playing them on anything else. (I got my DS for free on Steam, btw).

I'll probably pass. I've beat bloodborne and enjoyed it but have never been able to get into souls. I think for me it comes down to liking the setting and more aggressive playstyle of bloodborne more than souls

I think Demons Souls was superior to all dark souls entries because it didn't baby you.

No bonfires meant higher tension and reward.

Not having a choice to get invaded or not (unless you disconnected your whole console from the internet) also meant more tension and satisfaction when you overcame an invader.

Not having any restrictions on invading is also something I dearly miss.. I would invade people for hours straight. Combating that, there were blue phantoms that made it heir job to protect people from invaders.

Players moved faster and were generally more agile and responsive meaning that combat was both tactical and more twitch/reflex based than later entries. It was like the difference between playing a platformer with really tight and quick controls (Demons Souls) and then comparing it to a platformer that just isn't quite as responsive (Dark Souls).. I think this was a purposeful design decision to make it uh more realistic or something?

Also, the Nexus.. red NPC phantoms as the world turned dark.. being spawned in to be the boss a player fights.. and sticky white stuff.

Most importantly Demons Souls had dragon bone smasher. Game set match.

I do like the overall story and world of Demons Souls over Dark souls. Although, I would say that Dark Souls is superior.

I miss the maiden in black and her quotes. I also miss my little crow.

They failed to recapture the Maiden in Black in any of the other games.

Soul of the mind, key to life's ether.
Soul of the lost, withdrawn from its vessel.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended.
So the world might be mended.

Thou seeketh soul power, dost thou not?
Then touch the Demon inside me.

The Maiden in Black is everything.

My Macros in FFXIV for my Scholar class is set to quote that every time I resurrect someone in my Party.

"Soul of the mind, key to life's ether.
Soul of the lost, withdrawn from its vessel.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended.
So the world might be mended."

Every time I switch to Cleric stance to DPS its set to say the second quote.

Everytime when I do it people who get the reference bow to my character. The Demons Souls fan on my server get a kick out of it.

Many times I where an outfit where she looks like the Maiden in Black.

My introduction when the raid or dungeon starts I use this quote

"I am only here to tend to the flames.
I keep the candles lit and serve the brave Demon slayers who are trapped here."

It's funny because all the Demons Souls fans that I know that prefer the original do so because we were there from the beginning. Many of those that prefer Dark Souls started with Dark Souls.

I remember here it like you were part of a special group if you were playing it at launch.

This is one of those games that built a grass roots fandom by word of mouth. Thankfully reviewers all loved it too. Gamespot voted it game of the year. It deserved it. It literally brought me out of losing interests in games.

The only other gamethat I've seen recently build this sort of love the way Demons Soul's did is Nier Automata. Just fans and journalist really lauding the game and pushing sales. No one expected Demons Souls would become a triple A franchise when it came out. Sony, didn't either hence it not continuing to publish it.

That explains my preference for Bloodborne. Although I've only played an hour or so of Demon's Souls, does it still have an active online? Or were the servers shut down? Might have to set up my PS3 again...

The servers were shut down on March 1st of this year. They left them online for a very long time however due to how many people still actively played the game.

I haven't played Bloodborne yet but I've been with "Souls" from day 1. I think I'd rank them -

Dark Souls 3
Dark Souls 1
Demon's Souls
Dark Souls 2

Love them all. Even ranking DS2 "last" I hold a special place for it and think it did some things better than he others. I used to rank Dark 1 the best but upon revisiting DS3 recently I'm really appreciating how awesome it is. So much less frustrating the 2nd time through. It's not perfect but I think it's the closest he series has come so far.
