It was announced a few months back but its good to see its actually going into production. I think its going to be really expensive though, I seem to remember seeing a rumored price of over $100. I always liked that controller more than the "S" controller personally and its going to be great using this thing with the OG BC games once they arrive.

The ones I'm looking forward to most are: Crimson Skies, Panzer Dragoon Saga, JSRF, Jade Empire, and MechAssault 1&2. There are also a ton of game I never played on the console before and games that have never been released on another console before that I would like to try out. I hated Blinx though. Maybe I just didn't understand the game when I played it but I was so excited to play the game and what I played was just a bunch of short timed stages that weren't very fun.

The OG Xbox has the stigma of trying to be "too cool" IMO....and TOO COOL in the late 90's/early 2k's is really lame today.

The green logo, the sharp edges on the system, etc. People don't seem to think of it as a great system, but it's good games are wonderful.

KOTOR, Jade Empire, Halo 1/2, Ninja Gaiden, Panzer Orta, Psychonauts, Outrun, Fable, Riddick, Splinter Cell, Gun Valkyrie, Stranger's Wrath, Kingdom Under Fire, Mechassault, Crimson Skies, etc. etc.

Not to mention superior versions of games like Freedom Fighters, Burnout, Soul Calibur 2, SSX, Timesplitters etc. Having some of the same games from PS2 - only in 720P - is glorious.

I still kind of think of it as the Dreamcast 2 since Sega essentially dumped all its games which were going to the DC onto the Xbox after the DC died. I liked the system quite a bit because the games it got in its short life were pretty great. PDO is still one of my favorite games of all time.

A crapty LCD in the center just makes it more tacky and unpresentable than the original controller already is. Although if you're buying a third party controller made by Hyperkin you were probably the kid who had some bullcrap controller with macro functions and individual turbo switches for each button back in the day.

The Duke was garbage. There is a reason the S came out and killed the duke.

As for the xbox, it also had the best GTA games. They controlled better, and on Vice City you could play your own songs while driving. Nothing like driving around causing havoc to a little Love Me Do.

I don't think the display itself will be crappy, but it will pointlessly drive up the costs of the controller if they're not really being used for anything other than to display the Xbox logo.

It isn't just the surface area, it's the thickness of the Duke that makes it tough to hold.

That Saturn 3D pad was just a terrible shape. Too bad they didn't put the analog stick into a smaller, nicer controller.

Right after I posted that I went into my gaming room and held each of the controllers and the Duke is the thicker of the two controllers and the DC controller has a grove for your fingers to sit in which makes it feel like the slimmer of the two, but in all honesty, the Duke was more comfortable. The S still felt okay, but I didn't like the placement of the black and white buttons at all.

The black and white buttons are probably better on the Duke, I agree. It nearly makes like like a 6 button layout, while adding some alternative buttons for menus etc.

Same could be said for the start/select buttons. They just make SENSE in the middle.

There are are some bad controller designs back in the day.

If I remember correctly, the white button in Halo 1 was to toggle on/off the flashlight and the black button was used for switching grenades, so having the black and white buttons in such a weird spot lead to me looking down at the controller often or having to feel around a bit like I was reading brail to figure out which was which on the S controller. Feels like they looked at the DC controller and made their own version of it. On another note, I forgot how great the RT and LT were on the DC controller. Those springs are legit.

I don't like symmetrical joysticks, having them offset is much more comfortable for me and its not wonder why pretty much all controllers now days have the joystick placement which follows the Xbox. I also like getting to use enloop batteries too. They hold a 50 hour charge and take only a couple of seconds to switch out a new set.

If you can't plug in or dock your controller between play, then you are a turd. My PS4 controllers are never dead when I need them, because I charge them when I see the battery symbol getting low (which the PS4 shows EVERY TIME you turn on the controller).

As for symmetrical joysticks, it's a personal preference. But I have no trouble with it. It feels natural to me. I do get that the left analog stick is used SO much more than the d-pad, they should probably be swapped so that the let stick and the face buttons are in the same places.

The PS4's handles and triggers and contours are so nice though...

The fact that you HAVE to plug in or dock your controller during playing sessions is the annoying part. If I wanted to have my controller plugged in all the time I would just get a wired controller. Every 3-4 weeks I change my batteries out which takes less than 30 seconds and I'm good for another 3-4 weeks. I like the Xbox One's triggers and a lot of that has to do with the fact that, like I said above, rumble triggers are a game changer for racing games as it give you feedback you wouldn't otherwise get.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony changes the joysticks with the PS5, especially now that even Nintendo has moved to asymmetrical.

My favorite controller is still the Wii U pro controller, followed by the Switch pro controller. After that, probably 360/XB1 and SNES. GC controller is so overrated. The c-stick is uncomfortable to use, the button layout is weird, and the shoulder buttons are awful.

Is it THAT much worse to recharge it once a week vs once a month?

And if your phone lasts 2-3 days between charges, then you are using your phone as much as I'm playing my PS4 - which is to say, not much. My phone is dead by 8pm if I don't at least plug it in for a bit during the day.

I work a lot and have a workstation and a desk phone, so all I'm getting on my iphone is occasional push notifications and I might dick around with it if I'm walking.

My phone charge beat my PS4 controller charge handily. Playing through Persona 5 was notably obnoxious. Again, I'm not saying "UGH IT'S UNPLAYABLE" I'm saying it's a really dumb flaw, it's the worst wireless controller of its kind in regards to holding a charge, and it's an issue. Yeah, once a month if you're not playing more than an hour a week. If I only played video games for that amount of time then I would only need to switch batteries once a year. How I play games I would need to charge my controller nightly and plug-and-play on the weekends. Thanks but I'll take 50 hours of recharge time and never having to plug in my controller once even though I've been using it for almost 4 years now.

I have an old Windows phone that I only carry around if my wife needs to get ahold of me. I've still streamed Pandora over 4G for 12 hours straight and it only used 25% of my battery. The low OS overhead saves a ton of battery.

You must have one of the early models, Dave. I think we've talked about it before, but the new models are not bad at all. They are far from perfect, but they holds a charge for a good 12 hours easily. So unless you are marathoning every night, you only need to charge it a couple of times a week.

Persona 5 was a bit of a marathon. I'd have to charge it every day or so, even leaving it idle while watching Netflix or something was a death sentence to the longevity. Which again I'm sure to the PS4 Controller Battery Defense Squad is a first world problem, just turn it off every 15-30 minutes and then turn it back on when it's time to switch or skip! But I just don't have this problem anywhere else. Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, Wii U Pro controller, nada. It's just the PS4 battery. (And the Wii U pad, but it's got an actual display screen and stereo speakers attached to it so I would expect it to have a short battery life)

I've had both generations. Second one was better, but that's like saying getting shot once is better than getting shot twice. I'm literally saying the battery is awful, guys. Seriously. It's demonstrable. I'm not wrong, it's not good.

Lol...maybe I'm just used to it. And you won't get any arguments from me about how poor the battery life is. It's poor when compared to other controllers, no doubt. But the controller, minus the battery, is fantastic, imo. The Gamecube controller was my personal fav for a long time, but the DS4 has that crown now. I'd give the Wii U controller a special mention as well. That one has really grown on me.

#2: This hilarious thing that showed up on AliExpress one day. Not first party, but it's almost an SNES controller so I'm counting it.

#1: Sega Spaceship, duh.

For real though, I can't play Intellivision games because I hate the brick design, the crapty disc, the coiled cord constantly pulling me back towards the console, how hard it is to neatly pack the cord back in. What a POS.

Dreamcast's controller was awesome. Not even close to being the worst one ever.

It felt alright to hold, it wasn't uncomfortable. But it really should've had a second analog stick.
What's a nice place like this doing around people like us?

When the DC was released back in '99 (I think '98 in Japan) duel analog sticks really weren't used much other than on a couple of games on the PS1. The N64's single analog stick was fine for that timeframe. It wasn't until the OG Xbox where it was shown how valuable that 2nd stick could be.

I've owned PS1-3, but I've never cared for the dual shock. The d-pad is crappy (with the middle missing) and the left stick should be swapped with the d-pad. I've actually hit thumbs while playing some shooters. I also dislike the spring in the r2 and l2 triggers.

Not a single input on the Dreamcast controller is "great". The stick, triggers, d-pad, etc...all not great. But overall, it's a competent controller.

I really liked the triggers, they had great feedback and a really good feel to them. I'm going to replay Blue Stinger in the coming weeks, so we'll see how the controller inputs hold up.
