I thought it might be a good idea to post a thread like this where we can tackle some games in our backlog or for systems that we aren't spending a lot of time with. Just post a list of systems in your first post and update it throughout the year if you participate. Screenshots are not required but are welcome. It doesn't matter when you started playing. It only matters when you completed it. As it gets closer to the end of the year it will maybe make it a little interesting to see if you can squeeze those last few in. Some of us will have a lot of systems to cover. Maybe try and do a game you have never finished.

Yeah it really helped the experience. I wasn't aware of the end. One of my favorite endings in games ever. Especially when you consider the 30 years I've been attached to the franchise.

For a follow up thread in 2018 would anybody be interested in keeping a running total of all games completed on any system at any time. I'm sure I have 300-400 completed games over my lifetime. I have a spreadsheet I track with dates and odd notes. I would curate the thread since I've enjoyed it. Just let me know and Ill go ahead and make the thread. We could maybe have a monthly challenge to match the retro thread or something.

I finished Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. It took my 8 hours. I could have done it in 7 I think, but I was trying to upgrade a weapon and did some grinding. Its an excellent game. If you have any interest whatsoever in Castlevania or SOTN style games this is definitely one to look in to. I couldn't put it down once I got a feel for how to play.

That puts me at 15/33.

I think I'm going to try and tackle horror/supernatural themed games for the month of October.

Polished off Uncharted 3 tonight -- for some reason I stopped about 2/3rds of the way through earlier in the year (I think Zelda/Switch came out). Beat it on PS4 but I'm going to count it as my PS3 game as the gameplay is identical. raspberry Pretty solid but I definitely preferred Uncharted 2 over 3. This one was a bit anti-climactic at the end and didn't have quite enough variety. But I just picked up Uncharted 4 so looking forward to that -- will probably wait until I finish Shadow of War though, been looking forward to that one for months.

Also I realized I beat Parappa the Rapper on PS4 a couple months ago but would like to count it as my PS1 game (same reason as counting Uncharted 3 as PS3, only a graphical update). Most of my other PS1 games are 40+ hour RPGs and I doubt I'll get time with the epic last three months of gaming coming (Shadow of War, South Park, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade, etc). If that's OK. :)

Also finished Mario + Rabbids a couple weeks ago -- absolutely stellar game that took me by surprise.

Next to beat will likely be Kirby's Adventure on NES Classic, then I'll pick one from the SNES Classic to finish it off. :)

I think that is a good way to determine your PS3 and PS1 games. I beat Dawn of Sorrow on my 3DS. I don't own my DS any more. So it counts either way in my mind.

I'm doing a lifetime game completion tracking thread if you're interested. Everybody is welcome to participate.

Right on thanks, I may do that.

Beat Kirby's Adventure (NES Classic) tonight. Pretty standard Kirby but I liked the twist in gameplay with the final boss. Pretty impressive graphics for an NES game - definitely squeezed out all the power they could out of the machine. Makes sense; I think it was one of the last games released for it?

Brings me to 17/18 - just SNES to go. Thinking maybe Super Mario World, although tempted to give either Link to the Past or Mario RPG another go. Two of my favourites.

I still hold Doom32x to easily be the finest of the early Doom console translations. The Jaguar version ain't bad but I take issues with some of the choices made to bring better (but still not perfect) performance. Mostly that Jaguar couldn't play music and play levels at the same time. It's a hardware thing but it's still bad.

It was the style of the textures and the usage. It looked more natural instead of like the silver demonhead texture that was randomly placed. Deimos lab was a bad offendor on PC for that.

Beat Super Punch-Out this afternoon on the SNES mini -- still as good as I remember it. Just had to remember the strategies for the last few opponents, who were tough until you practice a few times. Might go for an undefeated save file one day -- my record on this one was 32 wins, 21 losses (lol).

Ironically minutes after I finished I heard the doorbell ring and it was the courier dropping off an Amazon package...Shadow of War for PS4. This marks the beginning of a long stretch where I'll be consumed by new games (Shadow of War, South Park, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, etc) so I'm glad I finished this challenge beforehand. :)

Updated.

I just finished Brutal Doom on PC. It's an absolute blast and I recommend checking it out. I will say it does feel like it gives you way too much ammo, but there were still occasions I ran low. The final boss is cheap trash though. Every other boss fight was fun. I'm going to try the Demonsteele mod out soon. Tomorrow is Friday the 13th so I'm going to clear the game on my NES toaster. I hope.

So I beat three games this week. Pheonix Wright was first, it took a while to get through the fifth case (it was the only one I had left.) Gave it an 8/10.

Kamiko was next. I have actually finished the game before, but I just finished my third run so I could have done a playthrough on all three characters. Doing one more run to unlock the secret menu. I loved it's combat, sense of exploration, and challenge. Easy 9/10 for me, and all for $5.

Finally, Gunman Clive. I got this game on Saturday and finished it Sunday. My first run-through took about 2 hours of play-time, on normal with Clive. Did a second run-through this morning on the bus, and it took me a little under 30 minutes, with Ms. Johnson on Easy. Going to probably do one more with the duck and then call it a day. I liked the style of this game, and it's Mega Man gameplay. I am definitely going to pick up the sequel. 8/10 for me.

I'm Workin ng on Alien 3 for SNES. I need a break from Goemon. I beat a lot of hard games and there is a section of Goemon that is literally breaking me. Alien 3 is a solid title. The weapons are good, the mission hub idea for each level works pretty well. If the AI was as aggressive as the other versions of Alien 3 it would be a lot better. It's sufficiently creepy and some of the level art is really good. The control can be a little wonky if you try to quickly crouch and fire forward. I think it's worth a try if you already have it. 6.5/10 so far.

Completed Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness with Cornell and Henry. I may play through it with Reinhardt and Carrie at a later date, but not right now. I can't speak for the first Castlevania on the N64, but I think Legacy of Darkness is a pretty good game that is unfairly bashed by the "N64-era Castlevania haters." It's one you have to give a little time, because the controls, framerate, and camera takes a little getting used to. I realize that sounds like quite a number of hurdles, but none of them are even close to game breaking, in my opinion. The music is really good (I especially love the Sinking Old Sanctuary remix) and the game, despite it's flaws, has the feel of a Castlevania game. I've only played a little bit of the first Lords of Shadows game, but LoD has it beat in that category by a long shot. Either way, I'm now up to 12/18 on my completion list! I'm working on Final Fantasy Tactics and Dragon Quest VIII for my PS1/2 games and quite deep into both of them. Until next time!

Updated. I'm starting to dig Alien 3 a little more. I just wish the renemies we're more aggressive. I debated on Castlevania for my N64 game until I saw Doom 64 is an exclusive . Some reviews I checked out gave settings for controls which should clear up most control issues. I anticipate having Alien 3 finished by Friday or Saturday. I just chilled and played board games today with my sons.

For my PSP game I think I'm going to do Castlevania instead of Jeanne D'Arc. Jeanne D'Arc is an amazing game, but i want to work on more action oriented stuff for now. I'll still put some time into it though and see what happens.

Gave it a 7, the only "mainstream" media review under a 9. Got a ton of flack, but also a lot of support for expressing his "opinion".

The guy makes over $13,000 a month through Patreon -- I'm sure all the controversy/publicity helped bump that up a bit.

If I remember correctly, his complaints were all revolving around the beginning of the game and were things that change over time and he even admitted that he didn't play the game for very long. I remember his site got DDOS'd from giving No Man's Sky a low score too.

What was the deal with the last stage?

It's just total wankery if you don't look up how to get the artifacts before you get there. The game gives no clue to their existence and it makes the final battle absolutely ridiculous. the artifacts make it where you can shut down the three enemy portals and gank the boss in a few seconds. Without it requires a combination of skill and sheer luck not to get butt raped by Lost Souls.

That's good to know as I started Doom 64 a little while back but stopped for no good reason. Are the artifacts all in the last stage or do you collect them throughout the game?

You collect them throughout. I still loved it though.

I've been very bad keeping up with this so I decided to start from scratch next year. I'll muster up what I managed to complete from my list of completed games when I get a moment, but I'll be honest the console variety will most likely be slim.

I plan to change that next year. I want to be playing at least a couple games a month, each for different consoles, to completion.

Hopefully I can tackle No More Heroes on the Wii U before the end of the year. I honestly don't know what other systems I said I had in my OP for the thread, now I'm sorta limited to what I have. I could add Gamecube and 3DS back now.

I'm fairly happy with my list! Can't touch Gypsy but all in all, I thought I'd do worse. Got lots of big titles off my Finish It list.

I haven't checked my math to be sure, but only 17 more games to 200 completed games in the spirit of the challenge. I think we are over 200 total fairly easily.

Is that a one-per-system count, or completion count period? Something tells me we've beaten well over 200 games so far, I've knocked out 20 alone and I know Gypsy nuked that count.

I finished Keio Flying Squadron for Sega CD. Its a good game, but there is an occasional issue with the hit box IMO. It's nothing special, but it is fun and can have some tough moments, but is mostly about average difficulty ir less.

Playstation 4 - Sonic Mania

Finished up Asura's Wrath on the 360 tonight. I have mixed feelings towards it, much like many of the critics who reviewed it. The story was compelling, graphics were outstanding, and the style was unmatched. The gameplay, however; was a mixed bag. The fighting was pretty fun (albeit easy), but the bulk of the game consisted of movie watching with QTEs interspersed. All things considered, it was an entertaining experience that didn't outstay its welcome. My new total is 13/18 systems completed.

I need to pick it up on 360, the PS3 version's got a crap ton of awful horizontal tearing. Actually I think I mighta picked it up during one of the digital sales, I'll have to check, haven't plugged the 360 in for a long time now

During Gamestop's B2G1 used game sale I picked up Ninja Gaiden 2 and Metal Gear Rising Revengence, so I'll be spending some quality time with the old boy in the coming weeks.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Champion's Ballad DLC isn't helping either.

For PSP I'm waiting on a copy of Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.

For PS2 i have an DMC2 save file that i'm about 8 hours into from waaaaay back.

GBA I think I might order a Castlevania, but I have to look at my GBA games first.

Shenmue is leading as my DC game to finish.

Crows: The Battle Action is awesome. It has a lot of style and is fun to paly. A must try for anyone that likes beat em ups. It's not all roses though. The game gets really taxing in the later levels and it requires a lot of patience.

It's still got it! Haven't been able to bring myself to finish any of the others, sadly. Don't even think Arkham Origins is on PS4, oddly. Must have sucked.

You should beat City. My favorite. Origins wasn't made by Rocksteady because they were working on Knight but instead WB made it with their engine. It is generally considered the worst of the series. It was still enjoyable enough for me though.

Solid. Did you get Knight on PC or console? I played XB1 and it was fine, but I heard the PC is still a bit of a mess, even 2 years later.
