Harmony of Despair is $5.24 on Xbox 360 and PS3. PS3 version comes with additional content and local multiplayer.

Is it any good?

I'm playing it with my son and it's fun. It doesn't have the pacing of the other DS and GBA titles due to the multiplayer nature. I believe there is a demo. It's challenging and the Castlevania mechanics are flawless. The bosses are recycled from the previous games.

It's pretty fun. Gets hard! Didn't like the zoomed out part much at first but you get over it. You can zoom in but honestly you'll find yourself eventually wanting to zoom it out anyways.

I just watched a review and honestly it doesn't really appeal to me. As far as (semi) recent digital-only Castlevania games go, Adventure Rebirth is more up my alley.

I'd say try it, and try it a couple times (Demo's free). Don't look at reviews and don't look at screen shots. Clear it once or twice and see if you want to play more.

The only dog is that a lot of the fun stuff's locked behind DLC.

Definitely give the demo a shot. I'm more of a classic Castlevania guy myself too. It probably helps I have someone to play with. I grabbed a copy on both PS3 and X360. I didn't know the local coop was on PS3 before I bought it.

Funny I came to discussion to maybe post a castlevania Handheld thread. I've been playing the originals on my Xbox, Adventure, Belmont and Legends (there's a speed hack for all three, I usually play those versions for obvious reasons) but that's about the extent of my portable Castlevania knowledge. Love Adventure because of the music and nostalgia, Belmont's Revenge is just a great solid tittle on its own for a million reasons and Legends really isn't that bad at all. I very much enjoy the jumping mechanism in this one. Music leaves something to be desired but the gameplay, level design and rest are pretty solid. It snowed here today so instead of going to work I was going to explore the GBA Castlevania games in a little bit.

I'll be willing to get the PS3 version if anyone wants to start a GameTZ multiplayer group.

What's the bonus content for the PS3 version?

It's some of the DLC levels. I think k there are two plus a character. So that's like 10 dollars in DLC.

Not what this thread is about but I can't understand why Konami doesn't make a Castlevania collection or even 2 or 3 collections based off all the games in the series.

Rumors suggest that the Rebirth series is Switch-bound:

That's great news, it'd really be a shame to be lost forever to the annals of the Wiiware store.

I grabbed the PS3 version. I regret not getting some of these downloadable games that get pulled (TMNT on 360 is what comes to mind most frequently, and the 1942 game)

Glad to have it on my PS3, maybe I can get my wife to play it

Been playing SCV IV on my Snes Mini. Hooked it up for the first time today. These graphics are fudging butt and half. Original cart on a CRT destroys these graphics as does running it on my modded Xbox. Was the same on street fighter and contra just horrible pixelation. I played with the fliter, still butt. Only game that had close to console graphics was link to the past. So far not at all impressed with the mini. SCV IV on the other hard is a joy. Less cheap than the nes games but also a little less alluring.

I didn't see any problems with SCV4 on the SNES Mini. Whatcha mean pixelation?

Actually I kinda might have seen what you're talking about, my dad's 4K TV kinda made the SNESC look like crap. Looks fine on both my TVs though.

I knew I took liberties with the use of pixilation. Please excuse that rare misuse. I meant to say on Lehman's terms is that it looks way fuggin craptier

So the DLC is available on 360 too, but you get it free on PS3, is that correct?

Hold off. I don't see it listed on the PS3 store. The listing I bought had yellow text detailing the additional content. I don't see that text now.

I might just be confused.

From Wikipedia.

"The PlayStation Network release also contains Chapter 7, Julius Belmont and Yoko Belnades included with the full game, along with the exclusive feature that allows local multiplayer for up to four players."

The sale ends January 9.
