Topic Gamestop - no longer a trusted store?

So I know Gamestop has a bad rep for some dishonest business practices such as selling used games as new however I have not heard of them straight up ripping off their customers. After my recent experience I am questing if they are even a legitimate place to buy from anymore. I purchased several items from them in late November. I did receive several items however some of my order never arrived. I received a tracking number on 11/28 but it just shows "Awaiting Carrier Pickup." I have contacted them through email 4 times now since December and they absolutely will not reply. I did try to call as well however the wait was over an hour and I was disconnected. I totally understand mail is slow right now but there's no way it should take 6+ weeks for the carrier to pick up my package. Also, even if there was an issue then they could reply to my many inquiries. At this point I may just have to do a credit card chargeback before it's too late. Anyone else have experiences like this with Gamestop? After this I am done with them, no legitimate business should ignore 4 emails from a customer; 6 weeks has been plenty of time for them to reply and fix the situation (either send the games or refund me).

Have you copied the tracking number into fedex or ups tracking. I had an order arrive before Christmas, but on GameStop's page it says awaiting carrier pickup still.

Yeah..unfortunately the FedEx tracking says "Estimated delivery date:Pending. The delivery date may be updated when FedEx receives the package." The only status I see on FedEx tracking is from 11/28 and it shows "Shipment information sent to FedEx."

The only change I've noticed is up until a week or so ago Gamestop's page said "Awaiting Carrier Pickup".. now it shows "Ready to Go.". However no change on the FedEx side at all.

I've heard many stories that their website fulfillment can be pretty hit and miss. They clearly don't test games anymore. I bought 2 different copies of Game & Wario (Wii U) and neither of them would load on my Wii U. Never had an issue with any other Wii U game I've owned.

I'd sit on the phone. They will refund and send again. Its worth the wait.

I had a big problem with them last year as well. They kept sending me the wrong game. It took 8 tries for them to send the correct game. I was fully refunded and was told to keep the 7 mistakes as well, lol.

I used the same day delivery when I bought from them recently. Both Switch games were sealed and the Neo Geo Mini was new as well. Of course, your local GS needs to have the items in stock to use this delivery option. (And you can just pick up in store, of course.) Last time they actually shipped something to me, I received a cart only 3DS game that I had bought "new".

Yeah, one of the games I did receive was totally wrong. I would have much preferred the game I ordered but it was $5 and i didnt feel it was worth me trying to mail it back because then they may keep that game and still not send the correct one. It's no wonder they are closing stores left and right with how bad their service is. I always knew they had some sketchy business practices but I am shocked they are straight up ripping me off and refuse to reply.

LOL... that's bad. It was quite a few years ago they tried to sell me a used Tetris Axis as new. Case wasn't in the best shape and had the sticker that doesn't peel easy. I told them no and won't buy anything without seeing it first.

Getting non-functional disc based games was the last straw for me.

I can even understand sending a wrong game, or maybe even a defective one (although that should be rare) as long as they address the issue... but straight up ignoring your customers emails for 6 weeks is unacceptable. I would expect to run into something like this on Ebay, not from a nationwide retailer.

Unfortunately Wii U games tend to have disc read issues even when the disc looks mint. I think I may have commented on your past post about it but I had the exact same issue with Wario on Wii U. I would recommend going through all your Wii U games and testing them. When I went through mine I found 3 or 4 that were the same way (Wario, Spiderman, NBA 2k13, and maybe another 1). Pretty disappointing..they must have used low quality discs to press the games.

I went through 3 copies of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U before I got one that worked. One was a used copy but the second one that didn't work was bought new from Walmart. I returned that one and finally got one that worked.

The last time I bought from GS, after 2 weeks with no tracking update I contacted CS and they immediately sent out a replacement order. Another 2 weeks later, same thing. I reached out again and since it was a nice deal still I said I'd prefer a replacement order over a refund. 2 days later I had the games.

So I dunno what's up but emailing customer support was painfully easy for me. Just not sure why things aren't actually shipping out. It took over a month and 3 emails with them to get my stuff.

After 6 weeks of no response I'd say just do the chargeback. If that doesn't get their attention nothing will.

I don't order from them online at all anymore. I've had a couple negative experiences (including one just trying to place an order!) My local store is great, though.

Call and hang on the line. Pop a game in and play while they have you on hold. Then when you finally get ahold of CS, ask them to send you a new order or if they can locate the old order and it hasn't shipped yet to upgrade the shipping to overnight for you.

Or just contest the charges with your credit card.

It sounds like Gamestop is up to their neck in quicksand at this point. I'd avoid buying from them from this point forward.

I ordered online from them 2 weeks ago, and it just came today. Obviously, that's much better than 6 weeks, but it's still pretty bad. What's even more annoying is 2 out of the 3 games came in generic GameStop cases.

Thanks - yeah i did end up doing a call. Suspiciously i got connected in only a few minutes this time. The lady looked up my order and offered a refund or to resend. I asked for them to resend and within a minute she said she put in the request. I asked for an email confirmation but she said she wasnt able to do that however I would get an email in 3-5 days when it ships. I am suspicious though because one of the games shows out of stock on their page so I don't know how they can resend it. I guess I will give it a week or so and if i still don't get anything I will do the chargeback.

@sa330206 fwiw I once had them send a game from an order over a month later when they got another in stock. So it's possible those items could ship later but in my case they hadn't charged for it yet since it hadn't been considered shipped in their system.

I quit buying from GameStop around 12 years ago, whenever they would try and charge me full price for "new" games that were not, in fact, new games.

DO NOT BUY USED RETRO GAMES FROM GAMESTOP

they absolutely do NOT test a single game they get, they only check the condition of the label and disc, which theyre not THAT good at. You can trade in broken crap and as long as its not obviously broken(i.e. bit rotted carts and disc rot ps1 games) theyll take it in no problem.

They do seem to test controllers, at least for 360 and up.

Should've asked for a refund instead. Issues like what you described are frustrating, but are easily resolvable over the phone. From trial and error I learned that if you see your missing game is OOS online, DO NOT ask for a replacement. They don't have a secret stash of stock to fulfill that, just ask for a refund and they are pretty quick with that

I called previously and got nowhere. They never sent me my items and am wondering if I should call again. Ordered 6 PS5 bundles recently to sell locally and online at cost and am starting to get worried.

Well I got an email today that I got a "refund." Too bad they totally ripped me off. I did several B1G1 free games and they cancelled 3 of them. So I got charged full price for 1 of the games (disc only too) and didn't get the free game at all. I'm definitely done with buying from Gamestop.

As a longtime Ebay seller, it's a Postal Service fluke. I had over 12 packages stuck in that "Awaiting Carrier Pickup" for over 4-6 weeks from Nov 22nd on. One of them is still stuck in that loop. It means no one did an origin scan on the package when it got the post office that Gamestop corporate ships out of. Per my postmaster, during the holidays and busy times, they're only required to scan Priority and Express packages. First Class and Media Mail packages get stuck into bins and put on the next truck or plane that is sending them out. The only time they have to scan the package is when its delivered and even then I've had 3 that were never scanned "Delivered" or they're scanned as "Awaiting Delivery Scan".
It is 100% USPS fault.
Should Gamestop have refunded you by now though? Yes.

USPS tracking is called "Delivery Confirmation" so that they aren't held accountable for actually tracking packages. They just need to confirm when it arrives.

And from OP's post, it looks like they had a FedEx tracking number, not USPS.

Here's some issues I had with GameStop.com this last year.

First got a game that wouldn't install.

Had several orders (usually the 1/2 of used games). I'm not Pro but did end up with enough points for the $5 certificate. I ordered a $5 online certificate as I've been doing all my orders there.

Tried to use the certificate on the next order, wouldn't take.
In this order I bought MudRunner - American Wilds edition for Xbox One. A few weeks later Mudrunner for Xbox One shows up. Odd since this game is not even listed in their online system, probably where the problem arises.

Sent 3 online support messages about this mistake, no response.
End of December, receive an email "We've rounded you up to $5 off any item online or in store".

So today, doing another of the half price sales. NEITHER certificate will apply.
Found the phone number and called them. They are reordering the Mudrunner game. The $5 certificate I earned by ordering during all the sales CANNOT be used on anything that has any discount offer on it or on sale. Then the $5 bonus coupon apparently only can be used in store even though I have an email showing different.

Their online store is rubbish, and has been for a long time. This is no secret, and has been discussed here multiple times (pretty much every time they have a sale that makes people pull the trigger and hope they get complete games at good prices).

It's a gamble, sometimes people win big, other times they get crapted on.

It's like loot boxes.

the $5 certificates cannot be used on the half priced or b2 g2 etc sales. even the powerup pro ones cannot. it says it in the fine print.
you can use them on "discounted" or "deal of the day" games.
the $5-$10-$15 certificates that you purchase online with your points can only be used instore, it ALSO states that in the fine print.
The only ones you can use for online purchases are the monthly $5 powerup pro certificate and the yearly birthday certificate.
The $5 certificates pay for themselves because i used them on $10 XBOX or PS gift cards. So i'm getting credit at half the amount.

Anytime i've had a problem with something not working, i've either returned it instore or via the mail and i've INSTANTLY gotten a refund or replacement ASAP.

You guys are just fudging reaching.
I spend hundreds of dollars each month on their daily sales and cheap merch sales for my online store, i even occasionally buy games when they have a good sale (Borderlands 3 was just $9.99 the other day)

Speaking of Loot Boxes
Their Funko loot boxes (when they go sale) contain Funko Pops that no one else has, Funko has an exclusive deal with Gamestop. So you usually you get a Pop, keychain, pez, add ins, maybe a shirt. When they're on sale, they're $12-15, which is worth it because the rare Funko Pops sell online for between $28 and $40.
Their most recent box "Marvel Venomized", every single POP in those boxes are rare as all hell.
