Welcome to The GameTZ Game Club! This is my attempt at forming an easy to get into book club type thing, but with games! Anybody and everybody is welcome to join in on the fun!
Rules are simple
- Each month a random game will be chosen, by myself, for the club to play. Games can vary from the beginning of gaming onward to current generation platforms. There's no limitations!
- You have from the 1st of every month to 11:59PM EST of the final day to complete the designated game. 100% completion isn't required. The point of the club is to provoke game discussion, as well as give GameTZ veterans and new users a place to mingle!]
- For every game completed, post a picture as proof of your completion Example
- You will be awarded with a badge each month you complete the game. All badges will be proudly displayed next to your name in the original post. As long as you "roll credits" the game is considered beaten!
- Every user to complete the game each month will be thrown into a drawing to win prizes! Users will be assigned a number and 3 numbers will be randomly generated in the beginning of the following month.
- Each month's prizes will vary. Prizes will be given out by either me or TradingFin. Sometimes physical, sometimes digital. If you would like to contribute, drop me a message.
- If you don't own the game, and you have access to it on another platform, you're welcome to play it that way. Just make sure that it's the same version, to qualify for the prize or badge.
- If you do not want to participate in the games, but would like to join in on the conversations, please do!
- If you would like to join, just post here, and I'll add you to the list of users. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or criticism, please don't hesitate to post them!

You also want to get quills to increase your set of moves, get things to expand your health bar and power bar, and tokens to play Rextro's arcade games. I wouldn't exactly call it "wandering around." It's more like exploring and finding encountering new characters and helping them out, sometimes solving puzzles. The Pagies expand the worlds and open up new ones.
Man I don't know if I can put up with Yooka-Laylee to beat it... how long is it? I just tried it tonight and while I was streaming from my 1X to my PC so it wasn't perfectly ideal there were a few things that drove me nuts after only playing 20 mins... The 'voices' of the characters talking - is EXTREMELY annoying, I skipped the opening video and learned to hit A to skip their talking and just read the text, that was a terrible design decision IMO. The camera is a joke too, it catches on things and causes you to walk in different directions as the camera moves past things. Plus it's janky period. Movement is wonky too me as well. I fell off a few things straight away b/c it's too sensitive. I hope/suspect that I can adjust that though.
I'll give it another shot, playing directly on my console. After just beating Yoku's Island Express, another Team 17 game with a kid theme/focus that was actually really well done, and earning all Achievements, Y-L will need to 'get' a lot better if I'm going to stick it out.
It's not like I don't enjoy these types of games, I loved the Ratchet N Clank series, enjoyed Jak and Daxter and others.
Yeah that was my initial problem with Y-L when it first launched. Controls, camera, and framerate. I couldn't get myself to even complete the first world.
That said, a patch fixed the framerate, as well as adding in a free movement camera mode (which I HIGHLY recommend enabling). The annoying voices I'm used to, since it's done exactly like Banjo-Kazooie. Brings back memories of my parents getting annoyed whenever I played Banjo back in the day.
I'm not sure if I'll complete it this month either. I'm only 40 something pagies deep, and I believe the minimum requirement to best the final boss is 100.
Another big complaint I have is the overworld. Doesn't even come close to Grunty's Lair or the more open environment Tooie introduced. It seems a bit hard to navigate around and remember where to go.

My mother had a love-hate relationship with gaming audio. She told me often that the third-disc overworld theme from Final Fantasy VII made her want to jump off a bridge, but she's arguably more nostalgic towards the 8-bit Super Mario Bros. theme than I am.
I'm might try to turn the voice volume all the way down, it's just super annoying to me, but I was again playing on my PC where I'm only 2-3 feet from my screen and speakers. On my couch I'll be further away from my speakers.
So even you Frank might not complete it? How many members are going to complete it?
I started Yooka-Laylee yesterday and played more today. I've put about 2.5 hours into it, can't really decide yet if I like it or not. I did like the first 90 minutes, but now I've reached the point where I'm kinda getting annoyed dealing with the camera sometimes. I also ran into a glitch where I ate a berry from the bush that lets you spit fire, but I went to burn an enemy but the sound effect of the fire never stopped looping until I quit to the main menu and continued my game. I still would like to finish this before the month ends but Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokemon will be a higher priority.
I've been very torn as well. I've ultimately come to the conclusion that I LIKE the game, but I definitely don't LOVE it. I think if Playtonic decides to take the franchise back to 3D platforming, they could fix a lot of these issues and make a truly great game. I won't hold it against them, since this was most of the team's first 3D platformer since the N64 days.
Are we all in agreement that the Rampo boss fight sucked ass? I can't recall the last time I got that frustrated on the first boss of a game. They should have spent more time on that to make it less of a headache.

I got stuck on that part too, but then I read a very helpful tip somewhere:
You can actually come to a complete stop while you are rolling, but stay in the rolling position. I didn't realize this until I read about it somewhere. You can just stop, jump, and then continue rolling.
I think I've gotten 15 Pagies in World 1 (19 total) and I can't find anything left to do currently. I see some bowling balls at one part of the level that I can't really do anything with yet and some quill things off in the distance that I guess I can't collect until I return at a later time with a new ability unlocked.
Basically I just want to know when the heck does World 2 open?
edit: nevermind. I went exploring in the hub and did some trivia nonsense and then met the snake to get a new ability to access World 2. I only intend to collect the bare minimum of Pagies needed to beat the game so I wish I didn't spend more time than I had to in World 1.
Yeah I am. I was planning to do the drawing early this week, but things at my job took a turn for the worse, and I haven't been able to. I should be free to do October's drawing either later tonight or tomorrow.
Unfortunately though, December will be the last month for the consistent prizes as they've been. I feel bad that TradingFin has contributed so much, and I am going through some personal issues that prevent me from being able to afford $30 every month. That said, I will be accepting donations from the community for prizes, as well as throwing my own items and subtime into the pot as well.

That's fine, I mean we can all contribute something, and this is more about the fun of guessing the games and playing thru them together, I wouldn't have played any of these games, and some, like Journey, have been a very pleasant surprise. So even rolling into next year no matter how it goes it's still a fun game club..
Fudge me, that final boss was a dog. My total time was 24 hours and 14 minutes. make sure to take your pics during the end cut scene or credits, as the file select screen doesn't show that you've actually beaten it.
The game had some glitchy moments, and definitely isn't as polished as either N64 Banjo-Kazooie adventure, but I did enjoy it. I liked it a lot, but didn't really love it the way I love the BK series. I'm looking forward to eventually acquiring The Impossible Lair, as that one reviewed much better.
One of my glitchy encounters happened to take place at the final boss. I'll spoiler tag the video I made down below...
I do (PlayStation VR to be specific). I'm curious to see what game(s) are up for consideration as most VR games can be beaten in 2 hours or less and certainly wouldn't need a whole month dedicated to them (there are exceptions like Resident Evil 7 or Skyrim because they weren't built with VR in mind).
I have precisely 64 Pagies to go. I know I said Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokemon Shield would be a higher priority, but I've barely touched Pokemon and now this became a higher priority than LM3 because I feel like this has to be finished by the deadline. At first I couldn't decide, but now the more I play (a little over 8 hours now, according to the save file) I've shifted over to the "I'm not enjoying this game" side.

Definitely not. I always tried to get as many pagies as I could in the unexpanded world, then move onto the next. Then I went back and expanded the worlds when i was either stuck or had an ability that would make challenges easier.
Playtonic left the game open to be tackled however you choose, but that's almost the problem with the game. It really needed to be a bit more guided. It's almost like it attempted a sudo open world. I do think the concept could be revisited, retuned and reworked, and produce a killer Banjo replacement. I just really hope Playtonic isn't done with 3D Platformers yet. They have huge potential. I mean, most of them worked in some of my favorite childhood games.
