Nier: Automata - Words cannot describe how intriguing this game is and utterly dark at the same time. As I kept going and unlocking more endings the messed up the game got. I stopped after obtaining endings ABCDEUWZ though, but I will definitely return at a later time after I finish up more of my back log of games to get more endings. The gameplay was great overall I thought. Fast paced, action packed. Loved the hacking mini-games too. But seriously, for a game about androids and machines I never expected it to have this much heart and yet at the same time be so morbid and take such unique twists and turns. Well done, Platinum and Square. Thumbs up all the way.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Game Boy Color played using PlayStation Portable

I challenged myself the following ways:
- Not allowed to use trainer cards or Pokemon attacks that state I would have to flip a coin. (I would probably make this a permanent rule for me)
- Can't start a duel I have previously won already. (I.e. no grinding)
- Beat all 8 club leaders and first 3 grand masters using their own color. (only energy cards of that color can be in my deck.)

I beat Nier Automata. Got all of the endings except Y. Having issues with the first fight, trying to figure out to defend against his blast attack when he is low on health that wipes me out everytime. >.> Ended up buying the rest of the trophies I didn't have from the secret shop for funsies and to see if it would still give you the platinum, and lol yep. Still probably going to try for that last ending eventually but now my boyfriend can play it and in the meantime, I can hunt bunnies now that I know that that's a thing. :)

Nice! Just the 5 main endings for me. Not much of a trophy hunter so trying to get all the extra/joke endings didn't interest me at all. I think I finished with ABCDE and whatever ending you get for dying during the first mission.

I haven't played that game myself, but from what I've read you have to have completed the game at least 3 times before you get the option to buy the trophies, and they're bought with in-game money, not real money. It's like their version of "breaking the fourth wall" or something.

Yep. I heard Nioh did it too? But yeah, I already had most of the endings at that point, so I just checked it out (the girl with the Emil head in the Resistance Camp will have it). Only 650,000G for what I needed. :) But now I know next time if I decide to do something like that, I will take another look at what trophies I am missing because two were just killing 50 enemies by remote control/berserk mode. lol

Beat FFX2 yesterday morning. 7/10

I had played FFX when it first came out (was senior in high school) and it always had a place for one of the best games I ever played.

I bought the HD remaster, and beat FFX (awesome again) then I took a small break and went to FFX2.

It's not as good. The story takes too long to develop, it wasn't as emotional or epic. The gameplay was pretty cool and different, I went thru the story with minimal side quests, beat it in 25 hours. I'm glad to have finished the Spira story but I do wish it had been as good as the 1st.

Up next is The Last of Us remastered, while my BotW for switch is being shipped to me. I hear TLOU is good, never played it before, but I hear it's pretty good.

Lol yeah I'm wayyy late to the party.

Started it today. Pretty good. I'm into the story and the gameplay is legit too. Gonna keep on and see. Next up is uncharted 3 then 4 (never played either but I recently beat UC 1&2.

I actually skipped the entire PS3 era so I'm playing the good games remastered on ps4..

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Wii U I just finished off Ganon last night and I am so happy yet sad at the same time now that it's over. I did about 80 shrines too and I still can't wait to finish the rest of them. That final moment of the last battle will forever be embedded into the depths of my mind. It was that epic. All the boss fights and dungeons were for that matter. Heck, even climbing those towers trying to get to the top were memorable to me. With that being said, I think it's safe to say for me that this was probably the best Zelda game I've played to date hands down. It is definitely in my top 3, next to Ocarina and TWP.

Please do this. If you got a PS4 get the remastered version because some of the clunky controls and sixaxis stuff is gone. It looks better too. If it still doesn't grab you, pick it up with the 2nd one which is the best by far in the series though you'll miss out on some story I guess.

Little Nightmares PlayStation 4 - 9/10

A game so good I beat it twice! Little Nightmares is a dark, intense puzzle-platformer with a great little story. It feels like a cross between something Tim Burton would create and games like Inside and Limbo. The environments and some of the monsters help create some pretty unsettling moments and the sound design works wonders during the game's tension-filled sequences. It's a charming game in the way, but it's also very creepy. You go through the game solving relatively simple puzzles in a beautiful 2.5D space all while trying to make sense of the madness around you. The only real issue I had was with the control scheme which takes some getting used to because the button mapping is a little odd. Other than that, it's a wonderful little game that's a definite must play for folks who enjoy these types of games. It took me about 3 hours on my initial playthrough and just over an hour on my second playthrough, so it's a game you can play through in a couple of sittings.

It took almost two (awesome) months and nearly 78 hours, but I beat Breath of the Wild last night. I did all 120 shrines, all memories and all but a few (I think) side-quests, but there's still a good amount of armor upgrades to obtain and a crap ton of Korok seeds (which I won't actively look for).

Both forms of Ganon were laughably easy with the Master Sword, Hyrulian Shield and the four Divine Beasts. Though, I can see how having Link go through all the Shrines, freeing the Beasts, getting the best gear and essentially training himself all that time can lead to an easier fight, because he and the player are the most prepared to take Ganon on. I am a little disappointed the game just sets you back before the final fight after you beat it. I understand that's how Zelda games work, but given the difference in BotW from every other Zelda, I wanted more finality with Ganon. I wanted him and his essence to actually disappear from Hyrule after defeating him. It almost seems like nothing was accomplished otherwise. Oh well.

I'll get back to the last few side-quests and roam Hyrule casually for Korok seeds at some point, but not anytime soon. That said, I was initially quite perturbed with the Expansion Pass announcement so early after the release of the game, but now, I'm really looking forward to spending more time in this world like the devs are. Breath of the Wild is one of my favorite games now.

Finished Mass Effect Andromeda this weekend. The game grew on me and I think I sank in about 65 hours, but by the end I was ready for it to wrap up. I also thought the final "boss" fight was pretty meh and really didn't like the epilogue stuff at the end of the game.

persona 5.... 50/10 best jrpg ever, and ive been playing them 25 years. if you like rpgs you need this game, even if you haven't been into the series before. this is the first one I have spent any major time with. finished at 120 hours last and I feel like I lost my best friends. only its holiness the witcher 3 may stand above P5 all time for me. I never thought FF7 could be dethroned, and now I have moved it down my all time list again for the second time in three years. 1998 me would not believe you if you told me that near 20 years later not 1, but 2 games would ascend to heights beyond it.

I knew Id never make it with that guy, so I chose sara and tweaked her to not be a total potato. I put it down for P5 but I finished last night at 120+ hours so I may go back to mass effect now, I had only finished the first world barely so I wasn't too far.

Just finished the For Honor story tonight. While I'm enamored by it's tactical and fresh combat, the story mode felt like it was tacked on last minute, as kind of like a training mode for online PvP. It's not really a bad thing, I just wished it had a bit more depth. Most characters outside of a couple were forgettable for me. I also wished the warriors spoke their native tongues too instead of English or at least have accents. But I already know all that is expecting too much from Ubisoft. Overall I'd give it a 6.5.

Dead Rising 4 Xbox One 7.6/10

I'm a pretty big DR fan but I was disappointed with the amount of problems I had with the game. I originally put close to 20 hours into it then stopped playing for several weeks and went back to play it and it said my progress was 0% with 0:00 played and I had to start over, and I was supposed to have a cloud save but when it synced it didn't help. Also on multiple occasions while I was playing the game would just kick me off and it would go back to the Xbox One menu. Glitches and problems aside it's not a bad game although I ended up missing the timer that is no longer found in the game and felt this was just a safe game not really trying anything new, and the story was pretty bland. All of that said it was pretty cool to play as Frank West again and be back in Willamette.

Finally finished Wonderboy 3 The Dragons Trap Nintendo Switch

I give the remake a 7 out of 10 and that's only because its a remake of the original and is quite well done.

The original (speaking of mechanics and the such) even though I didn't play it back in the day I'd give a score of irritatingly frustrating out of 10.

The remake is gorgeous for sure, but so many things about this game are just ridiculous. I spent more time searching on line how to do stuff then I did actually playing.

I don't know how it would be beaten otherwise. If you don't find all the super random hidden crap you really are at a disadvantage because the characters are so under-powered.

it hindsight, i would have never payed full price for this game, had I known what I was getting myself into. Had there been a physical release, i would have already traded it just so I didn't have to look at it ever again.

Hyper Light Drifter (PS4) - 9/10

Phenomenal! There is absolutely no handholding here and that's one of the things I love most about it. The combat is fast-paced and challenging, and the level design is reminecent of the 16 bit era, but with a few modern twists. I love the pixelated visual style and I love how dark and mysterious the game world is. The themes and the ambience definitely give off some Super Metroid vibes while the journey to take down all these bosses is very reminecent of Shadow of the Colossus. There is no dialogue and the story is told through the images you see during conversations with NPCs and through the fantastic world building. It's all pretty abstract, but it's all very well done.

All in all, it's a pretty special game; it reminds me of a lot of the handful of Super Nintendo games I've played, but it manages to still feel unique. I'm glad I picked up a physical copy because this is definitely one for my PS4 collection.

144/144 golds attained. Right now I'm playing Wipeout Pulse, which I actually played years ago but it's been so long it feels new. The graphics are so gud and omg the music. Best music in a Wipeout game.

Dreamfall Chapters PlayStation 4 - 9/10

I was curious so I took a look at some of the review scores after the credits and I have no idea what game those reviewers were playing. It's a little rough around the edges, sure, but it's a pretty special adventure game, imo. Fans of the series and of classic 3D adventure games will be treated to a game with wonderful characters, fantastic voice acting, beautiful worlds, and a choice-driven narrative that will stick with you for a long time. I enjoyed every minute of it!

Toukiden 2 PlayStation Vita

I only finished the main story chapters/missions and a handful of the side quests and optional missions. There's a lot to go, including the post game content, but I'll leave that for another time. I really, really enjoyed this game and encourage any Vita owner to pick it up (there is a physical release).

My only major complaint comes with the final boss. He basically belly flops around the area and occasionally spits fire. The fire either takes all or nearly all your health, after which you wait for an AI colleague to bring you back. They are really good about it, but a couple times I still had half the time left on the wheel until total death and a colleague was on their way over only for them to suddenly stop, the wheel disappear and I was instantly dead. Unless you have a projectile weapon, which I did not, you have to get incredibly close to the boss like any other Oni. I actually found the best strategy to be, during the second half of the battle, hugging the perimeter of the battle area and letting my colleagues battle the boss. That made for a very boring battle.

The weird thing about this one is they removed some early parts of the game through a patch because they found that some players couldn't progress. And I don't think they ever added it as an option back in, just flat out removed it, at least on PC.

The Last Guardian PS4 9.0/10

I am a huge fan of Team ICO and for me they delivered again. It took almost a decade for this game to get completed and I'm just glad I got to play it.

Asura's Wrath DLC (Episode IV Nirvana) Xbox 360 8.3/10

Having beat the main game a few years ago I finally got around to playing the DLC. The game is incomplete without it as it closes the storyline and it was one of the better DLC's I've played. The whole thing lasts 2-3 hours.

The Walking Dead Michonne Xbox 360 7.6/10

I guess you can call this Season 2.5 as it's only 3 episodes long. Typical Telltale Walking Dead with a pretty good story.

I think you nailed it, for fans, I doubt many game reviewers for most of the bigger sites are adventure gamers these days. I find it funny the witness gets so much praise for being unique yet in the late 90s there were hundreds of those kinds of games lol my mom has a HUGE collection of adventure style games from the era. she never understood what my brother and I saw in playing games all day til she saw the 7th guest and myst, now she has a huge collection lol.

I just read up on this and it was definitely removed from the PS4 version as well. That kinda sucks, but I played it with no knowledge that some parts were cut and it never felt disjointed or incomplete to me. That section is a little light on puzzles, but it seems they tried to streamline it a little and make it less frustrating.

@tonymack21 A lot of the bigger sites haven't even reviewed the full game. It seems to have been pretty well received on Steam, though so I'm happy for the devs. It's not a game everyone will enjoy - hell, I'm sure there are fans of the genre who won't like it - but I feel the developers set out to create a classic 3D adventure game on a shoestring budget and succeeded. It's not perfect, but it's definitely my kind of game!

Debating 100%'ing Super Metroid next. Haven't done that since shortly after it came out (using my buddy's guide book).

No, not the same game. This one is the third game in the series. The one on the OG Xbox is the second game in the series.

I finally beat Tales of Berseria the other day. Still a few things I would like to finish yet, but I will probably put it on the backburner for a bit so I can focus on some other games.

The game itself is good. I like how a lot of the things connect to Zestiria, and I know Zestiria got a lot of flak, but my gooodddd the errors in this game. Spelling, grammatical, the one random unvoiced person (who should have been voiced, near the end), plus some other hiccups I encountered toward the end (like a person would be talking and it would cut off before they finished their sentence, then go to the next one. I never touched the controller!), I don't even know. Even Zestiria wasn't that bad (I can think of maybe one or two things?). Just, dang. lol

ya its not perfect, but i still liked it. its a very fun rpg to play. i wish the hoverboard would have come about a whole lot sooner though. i think its like a lot of rpgs you can tell the end is kinda rushed as they are trying to finish up and get it out the door, ive often thought that's why rpgs have that final area that is so generic and forgettable., recently experienced this in games like berseria, world of final fantasy, every jrpg ever, etc.

i did this in reverse, i haven't played zestiria yet and want to before i forget some details so i wont miss the connections but sure have a lot on my gaming plate at the moment. Nier Automata is SO good, its probably my number 3 game of the year so far, P5 being 1 and HZD being 2. nier in some ways is cooler than horizon and in some horizon is better. i still need to get back to Andromeda, i love mass effect but its such a downgrade from shep's trilogy im scared for the future of my beloved Dragon Age now. i put ME down for P5 (thankfully) and i want to get back to it sometime.

The guide I used on gamefaqs drew conclusions between the two, which was neat (Krystal109 I think?). I just need to work on my gaming backlog, so I am going to go back to my PS3 for a while.

I need to do that one day, I have a sizable ps3 backlog, as well as several I missed during the ps2 era :/ the backlog is a long term project lol.

that may be the thing to do, play it when I can and then check out something like that.

I have been piecing together a lot of the references and whats going on in Nier Automata but im sure ive missed something so after I get the main 5 endings i'll spend some time on analysis vids.

Shadwen PlayStation 4 - 6/10

Not bad. It shows a lot of promise at the beginning and has some really cool gameplay mechanics (love the PoP-style rewind mechanic), but it kinda feels like a tech demo that was turned into a 5 hour game. Locations are bland and samey, the mechanics don't evolve beyond what you learn during the first couple of levels (I wish I hadn't gone 100% stealth so I could have tried out some of the gadgets), and even the art during the "cutscenes" is inconsistent. Play this game for 30 minutes and you get the idea of what the next 5 odd hours hold. It's essentially one big stealth escort mission, but thankfully the partner AI isn't too bad and the enemy AI is pretty dumb so navigating a level is never too difficult. The story is also pretty decent. You gets little bits of story from the patrolling guards and while it's not all that original, I like both main characters and was definitely intrigued enough to see the game through to the end.

Not sure I'd really recommend this unless you pick it up at a steep discount. It could have been pretty great, but it seems the devs were either unwilling or simply didn't have the time/resources to really flesh things out.

pretty much my thoughts on the game, I felt like the non stealth style was def more fun and I think I may have rated this a tad higher possibly because I had more fun going non stealth. you are right though, could have really been a pretty amazing game but as an indie title its pretty cool. I don't know I could tell you to spend another 5 hours playing non stealth with all the great games out there though, I don't think it would be that significantly better but def better. the thing I didn't like about the gadgets although it was realistic is you had to find the parts to build them everytime you used one it was gone, and materials at least for me didn't seem to be that plentiful. agree that for a decent discount its worth going through and then youtubing the other endings.

Nier Automata - 11/10 its that good. all time great, like top handful maybe of all time. this is such a golden age, what a time to be a gamer. this gen has brought about 4 or 5 of my all time top 10 games, and ive been playing pretty seriously since the NES.

this game something that is better experienced than described. I could talk all day about its interesting lore, characters, super fluid and fun combat, visual style, a top 10 all time soundtrack, so haunting....

if you aren't familiar with the lore of the nier world look up Valkyrie aurora on youtube, she is very knowledgeable on the lore and has read the books as well which is where most of the blanks get filled in. she has a 25 minute video that doesn't take the place of playing drakengard 1, 3 and the first Nier (drakengard 2 isn't connected, skip it, taro didn't even direct it) but its about the best substitute you could find. after playing automata she has a few more vids that help also patch in some things, but they might be a little spoiler-y before playing. make sure you play through enough times to get endings A B C D and E, those are the main endings and that is considered the full game, the credits don't mean its over. even though there are lots of joke endings and a secret ending that will require the defeat of a super boss and will take a little more time investment. make sure you've done everything you want to do before going for the final ending E.

I just replayed the intro part and while it wasn't as good, it worked okay. Some of the early puzzles/nightmares you solved actually had some interesting dialogue, and the fact that they just cut it without giving an option is stupid. There were a few others similar to that one with the little girl and the tentacles in the closet, and it was kinda neat. Their reasoning for cutting it was weak, when they clearly could have just added a skip option or solve puzzle option for those who were actually stumped. What they replaced it with isn't horrible, but I found the first part sort of charming before whereas now you just walk forward for the most part until you get to the little girl.
