Wait, so is the point to physically damage your opponent by mutilating limbs and such until they can no longer fight?
"Tis merely a flesh wound"
Interesting concept if so, but no in game shown.
"Alright we'll call this a draw"
That concept sounds a lot like Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus for the OG Xbox. If you blocked too many upper body attacks with your arms then your arms would take damage and after a while your arms would break. If you blocked too many attacks with your legs then your legs would eventually break. I remember it being a pretty decent fighting game back in the day and was developed by John Tobias, Joshua Tsui, and David Michicich after they left Midway.
Not related to MK11, but is XL worth of picking it up? It has been years since I played an MK title, but I've been looking for a new fighter to play with my brother and I've been considering XL.

Absolutely. The XL version includes all the DLC fighters. It is a solid game for sure.

Nice, I'll track down a copy.
I also want to try Injustice and pick Tekken 7. I have been slacking this generation when it comes up to fighters! Shame on me.
