I haven't watched all the treehouse stuff, but the gameplay in Astral Chain seems like it falls somewhere between Bayonetta and Nier Automata. I'm really into Platinum's action stuff so I don't mind that as much. And yeah, it definitely can't be said enough: Don't stop after the credits in DQ11. What follows is not an epilogue. It's act 3 and it's soooo good.

Stuff i've got preordered for the Switch for 2019:

Astral Chain
Dragon Quest 11 (I probably won't replay it, but I couldn't help myself)
Fire Emblem
Indivisible
Pokemon Sword/Shield

I'm trying to get excited about MUA3, but the stuff i've seen just isn't doing it for me. It just looks like a mobile game to me. I definitely need to sit down and watch more of it.

The new Tegra chips that are out now are more powerful, produce less heat, are smaller in size, and consume less power. If they were to go with those then it would solve a lot of problems with people's fears about an upgrade Switch. Their other option is to essentially remove portability and make a home console.

right, if you want it portable that comes with some sacrifices compared to a home console. i dont know how much nintendo actually cares about the ps5 and scarlett and keeping up with them, but there was the thing they said that switch was a 5 year plan, so maybe they do intend to come out with something a couple years down the road like switch, less powerful but can play the games, and they continue their model of coming out a couple years after the other kids release their systems and that will baseline what they need, just enough power to get by, as they dont like taking a loss on the hardware.

I think that Nintendo's main focus is having enough power to make their own first party games as that's really their bit money maker and 3rd party games are a bit of an after thought when designing their consoles.

Jim actually likes a lot of games. He also really enjoyed Yoshi. He just likes being a bit of an ass these days because people seem to gravitate towards people who are snarky and cynical about things. I don't think I'll ever really understand that.

Bloodstained may be one of those games which plays better than it looks in videos, because every video I've seen of it the combat looks really slow and the character movement looks floaty and off. Sees like people are digging it though which is a good sign.

i do love yahtzee croshaw on the escapist because hes hilarious and his little cartoons are hilarious too. hes also extremely jaded and i like to get that insight into a game too, usually like to hear from someone who hated something and someone who liked it and why. since he hates most everything if he likes something its probably good. everyone seems to love jim sterling and easy allies, i guess i should give both another chance i didnt care for either maybe i just happened to try some of their lesser material.

I think one of the problems with pacing in these next gen platformers is they're being too literal in their translations. In 4:3 you don't need to move very far to get a sense of speedy traversal; stretch that out to 16:9 and, at least to me, it feels like you need to be covering a bit more ground a bit more quickly in order to keep that same sense of momentum.

The NSMB, Yoshi and Kirby titles all feel so slow. Triple Deluxe didn't but they also zoom in on the action, so that compensates. Gotta do one or the other imo, not neither

I'm sure it's fine though, probably feels better to play than it does to watch.

Played some NBA 2k19. It suffers from the same pitfalls of all modern human sports Sims, sacrificing fluid/fast gameplay for realism, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. It looks great, and despite all the micro transaction complaints I'm surprised at the amount of content. The all (insert team) teams is an awesome feature. So many greats, and the likenesses are decent (for still picture era) to great (80's and beyond). I was surprised to see Jordan there; I'm so used to seeing a black silhouette and "Player 23". Bird was draining 3's at will on rookie setting. I still am trying to figure everything out. Ridiculous value for $3 if you have any interest in an NBA sim and have an SD card. Looked and played well both in handheld and docked.

@Heavyd814life Yeah I do not think I will ever understand why ppl like Jim Sterling feel the need to be edgy or cool to get clicks and subs by being something you don't have to be all of the time. If you look at what happened to him with his FF7 Remake video that got downvoted and disliked and bombed like crazy because he said he hated how it looked. I think the ratio was like 5k likes to 3k dislikes which isn't that good by YouTube's standards. That FF7 video backfired so bad there I think he even lost a lot of subs too on his channel.
It just goes show that you don't need to be a cynical a-hole all of the time for shock value. If you attack something ppl love dearly and unconditionally like FF, you will get ravaged plain and simple.

@tonymack21 I used to love Yahtzee but he became way too crude for me. He got way too into his role as an a-hole critic and rubbed me the wrong way so I stopped watching him years ago. Good to know he is still around for ppl to market to though. I think Jim Sterling used to work for the Escapist too at one point in time. I wonder if they ever worked alongside one another.

Yeah I generally don't do youtube for "personalities" but a few of the gamer youtubers are just reg dudes with gaming passion. I sometimes watch Happy console gamer, alphaomegasin, and super derrek rpg. I liked Metal Jesus Rocks but it's more of a blogosphere at this point. Oh and john hancock is alright too. I sometimes find Rich from Reviewtech's takes entertaining, and boogie just seems like a guy with a passion for games. I generally watch guys that have genuine love for games.

I was watching black nerd react to nintendo's conference. But he had no idea who the dragon quest heroes in smash were, he didn't even recognize panser dragoon remake, he called it how to train your dragon. Seems more like a faker personality than a true gamer. And lastly who doesn't love easy allies.

Yeah I like Happy Console Gamer even though I don't really care for the majority of the games he reviews, he just comes off as a genuine nice guy. I also like Zalker, Dealer Gaming, and Boomstick. They're multiplatform gamers who give honest reviews of games regardless of whichever platform they may prefer a bit more which I can appreciate. I was listening to one occasionally called "Hot Take", but they turn into a couple of negative salty gamers who just came off as way too jaded and impossible to please. They could find something negative with anything and it started to grow thin.

That's how I feel about Spawn Wave, he has a lot of subscribers and does his little news update Monday thru Friday, but when he talks about stuff he seems to have a really difficult time getting facts straight about the history of games or the landscape in general. He knows a lot about "gaming", just not about anything too current or relevant, just news headlines.

If a mini is in the works I suspect it will have a much better battery life at the sacrifice of the screen size and power. I did read a similar article today that said a Chinese company was leaking accessory info for a Switch mini, so we'll see.
ErickRPG
GameTZ Subscriber Triple Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
19-Jun(#39)
I don't think they'd sacrafice power. So you think they'll make a less powerful mini that will struggle to run the 100's of that's already been released? That's just not something that will ever be done. Smaller screen and higher pixel density is a good thing for me. But I'm craving a Switch Pro that devs can use.

dustin11
Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
19-Jun(#40)
Yeah, I don't think the Mini will have less power. Doing so would compromise the vast majority of AAA multiplats that are funning on the system and would fragment the user base considerably. It will probably just be smaller with a potentially smaller screen and its internals will draw less power. I wouldn't be surprised to see this thing getting about 6-7 hours of battery power per charge
tonymack21
GameTZ Subscriber 500 Trade Quintuple Gold Good Trader Gold Global Trader (7) Has Written 3 Reviews
19-Jun(#41)
i wouldnt be surprised to see a mini and thats it, no pro. they dont care about power, and more power just pulls the battery life down. they could make it a little bigger and use a bigger battery and maybe improved internals can work with less draw, but when you think about it, a mid gen refresh for a stronger system doesnt seem to be their thing, profit on hardware is a requirement, and they can profit more from the current, and its still selling like gangbusters.

dustin11
Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally

I heard that producing the current Tegra processor is actually more expensive than the newer one because its a significantly larger chip and "out of print", so they're pretty much the only consumer and have to pay quite a bit to have the factory produce that specific chip just for use in the Switch. I think it was Digital Foundry who did the breakdown, but they said that using the new Tegra chip would actually cost less money than the current chip and be more powerful at the same time.
tonymack21
GameTZ Subscriber 500 Trade Quintuple Gold Good Trader Gold Global Trader (7) Has Written 3 Reviews

perhaps that will help get a better one. i can still see them not doing a pro though, if the switch is truly just a 5 year plan they may already be working on its successor deep in the labs of japan, but they could still do a mid gen refresh at no impact to that too.

I don't want to see the Switch do a nosedive once next gen consoles come out and those AAA games can't scale down enough for the hardware. That would kind of suck for all the Switch only console owners who would be left out in the cold.

If Nintendo were to make a "pro" console, I wouldn't mind the console saying the same size in terms of width and length, but get slightly thicker to fit in better internals and battery to maintain no less than what the Switch is currently able to get per charge. I could very well be in the minority of the thickness of the console though, and I could see some people getting agitated about possibly not having their Switch cases no longer fitting, so that would be something to consider.

Does one have to be a golf fan to appreciate Golf Story? I am def not a fan of golf, but looked at the game and it looks quite fun.

I'm not a golf fan but I really love Sim Golf. A simple overhead golf game can be fun (though I do hear this has great golfing for people who enjoy strategy in golf).

Did anyone pick up Crash Team Racing? It looks really good, but waiting to see if the online is active before I buy it.

I'm waiting to see digital foundry comparison with the ps4 version.

Interesting. I may check out Golf Story. I did enjoy Mario Golf back in the day.

And I'm getting CTR for PS4 since I would like a proper voice chat option in online play. Can't wait. Heard it's pretty great.
