Gotta say, the version of Sunshine on Switch is my preferred version now. The controls are so much better, even with the camera controls that have been bothering some folks. I prefer them to the way the camera handled in the Gamecube version.

Love playing through this again. It's a lot harder than most 3D Mario games and I feel like that + the FLUUD gimmick sort of earned Sunshine a bad wrap, but it's so good. Really underrated in the Mario universe.

I just played roughly the first 1/3 of 64 on Wii U last month, before 3D All-Stars was announced, so I'm in no rush to get to that one. When I finish Sunshine I'm gonna play Galaxy and cannot wait. Galaxy is my favorite 3D Mario game, even over Galaxy 2, so I'm happy to have something to look forward to.

All the camera reversals bug the crap outta me but I'll live. Hopefully there's a way to revert them but it's annoying to be used to reversed cameras with nintendo products (only) then have the rug pulled out from under ya

I enjoyed Sunshine from what I played last night. I'll get back to it in a bit. Anyone else get refunded $11 for their All Stars preorder from Amazon? Just saw that in my Amazon balance and got an email. It's for the preorder guarantee where you get the lowest price, but I don't remember it being discounted on Amazon. Maybe I just missed it.

I always liked Sunshine, so I'll definitely looking forward to that one. My favorite sections are the areas where Shadow Mario swipes FLUUD. Those areas are pure platforming genius, and some of them are really tough.

I was never really a big fan of Mario 64, but I'll try it again. I beat it 100% one time, but ever since then I play the first few worlds and quit. It's the camera that really bothers me.

Mario Galaxy is great. I remember being worried that I wasn't going to like the mini planets, but then being amazed at how you are constantly doing new things, even after 10-15 hours. I'm a little worried about the controls, but I'm still looking forward to playing it again in HD.

I read somewhere that Sunshine still forces you to use inverted controls, is that true?

Also, did they fix/improve the camera in SM64 at all?

Yes and no, unfortunately. The bumped the graphics a bit, but most of the flaws are still present.

I've read the controls in Super Mario Sunshine aren't inverted and they removed the option to make them inverted and that's what annoyed some players because that's how they played the original.

If the games are just being emulated instead of properly ported/remastered, I don't see a reason for removing anything.

Sorry, I misread. The controls are not inverted, and I have not found an option to change that.

That's great news, that might help me.

What about Mario 64? I don't suppose you can just use the right control stick to just look all around, can you? In the original, left c turned the camera left, right c turned it right, then up/down c zoomed in and out. They can't use XABY for that, so do you just push the control stick in those directions to mimic the c buttons, basically?

I love playing Sunshine again. But man playing it on the Switch Lite is a little harder with how far back the camera is (it doesn't go super close) so everything is super small. But I'll get used to it after a while.

Yeah, I did, which was nice. Normally I see these refunds before or when they ship, not a day later. I'm not impressed with the bare bones games so much but even for $50 my son is enjoying Sunshine.

It's absolutely a deal breaker for me.

I've spent years not using them so having to retrain myself for one game that for some fudgeed reason doesn't have an option would make me not play it.

I could not stand continually accidentally rotating the wrong direction.

I agree they should have an option. Kind of disappointed they don't.
theJaw

They should 100% have an option but the game plays the exact same otherwise. Just now for camera you have to..... move the stick the opposite direction. I get being tiffed to an extent but it being the be all end all detail for whether you can play the game or not is ridiculous. But everyone has their preferences I suppose.
dustin11

20-Sep(#33)
It's mainly an issue for me because I jump around between 4 different games right now and the ones with a controllable camera are all inverted, so I don't have time to adjust to non-inverted without having to go back to inverted.
theJaw
GameTZ Subscriber Triple Gold Good Trader
* 20-Sep(#34)
Well yah that's totally a valid issue to have on a game-to-game basis but in my opinion shouldn't be held against any particular game. Stinks in your situation but barely makes a difference on the game itself tbh. Sunshine was crap on for years for its camera controls. Now they switch it and get shat on for that. It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. I just don't think that it's that difficult of a transition myself, or at least hasn't been for me so far (despite years of playing the game). Just know which game you're playing, they all have different controls haha
dustin11
Bronze Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
20-Sep(#35)
It's totally a Nintendo move though since they often make really weird decisions. I remember on the 360 there was an option you could set to your gamer profile where if a game offered inverted controls it would set that option for you automatically. That was like 15 years ago. Miss those days.
theJaw
GameTZ Subscriber Triple Gold Good Trader
* 20-Sep(#36)
Yah I get that for sure, it should offer either/or. That'd solve the problem for everyone. But I also get where Nintendo is coming from, since the game was maligned by certain folks for years over the camera controls. It has been the leading criticism for like a decade so it seems they tried to make up for it with this release. I feel like any publisher would attempt to make similar changes with the amount of backlash Sunshine received.

But yah at the end of the day the decision should definitely be present. Hopefully a patch makes that a possibility. I read that there was no "sun wave effect" in the game before receiving it but have noticed several instances of it while playing, so it seems they're updating issues via updates. Lets get them inverted controls in there too, Nintendo.

Played a bit of 64 and Sunshine last night. Took a minute to get used to aiming in Sunshine, but overall it's a great port. I do hope they put in a patch for inverted aiming. It just makes more sense to control Mario's lean instead of the water's direction.

Up to 100 stars in Super Mario 64. Played the last 3 days. Funny thing is, I've never played the US version of the game. My dad bought me an N64 from China when some import store had it imported from Japan. No idea how much it cost, but I'm sure it was expensive. We finished it back in the day at 120 stars before the US launch of the Nintendo 64. I did play Super Mario 64 DS on the NDS and it wasn't quite the same.

As much as I'm disappointed they didn't do more with the ports, all the Mario talk has me really itching to re-play SM64 (been wanting to for a long time anyway), and give Sunshine another chance now that the controls aren't inverted. Hopefully I can pick up a copy soon.

However, I just started up Ori and the Blind Forest. I'm only 20 minutes in and I'm already in love. The graphics are gorgeous, probably the best non-realistic graphics I've ever seen in a video game. The soundtrack is great, and I'm loving the gameplay.

Just wrapped up 64 with 120 stars after 4 days. The game was a nice nostalgia trip. Started Sunshine and I'm pretty sure I never got very far in the original release. Maybe 4 stages and that was it. I would have to hook up the Wii or GameCube to find out.

Not having a long jump in Sunshine is a real pain. I keep forgetting since you can do it in pretty much every other 3D Mario game.

Because since Covid the Brain Disease started kicking off, everyone thinks they need every shiny thing the second it pops, and their weeks/months are genuinely in shambles if they don't get the next big shiny piece of whatever, and these commodities manufacturers are taking full advantage of the phenomenon and exploiting it. FOMO's been in my vocab for some years now, but this is truly the year of the FOMObeast. Hype is dead. So are digital storefronts, everything's for sale on eBay ten minutes after stock's depleted two minutes after it was made available.

Exactly. This is why I keep saying just wait a couple of months post launch and after the holidays, Sony and MS will be likely almost begging us to buy their consoles. The force is strong with FOMO this year especially with the purge (Covid) in place. And let's be real here. How much are you really going to miss out on if you wait a measly 2 months to get a new shiny? Demons Souls and Spidey MM will still be there as will Game Pass and games like Cyberpunk to take full advantage. Sure, back logs may grow a bit, but that's a small price to pay I feel over the sheer aggravation of hunting preorders and worrying even whether the retailer or website you preordered it from will have the damned things available at or around launch day not to mention them canceling your preorders at any given time up to launch going "Gotcha! We were only kidding! We have no new console for you! Better luck next time!"

That's not FOMO, that's Nintendo being crapty. If they only had enough pin sets to last an hour, despite how many copies of the 3D All Stars game they printed, and seeing how many people were doing those silly missions prior to the launch of the game, then they're 100% at fault.

Have to agree 100%. The part tour mission doesn't even register until 9/29. I get there are other missions you can do, but to have one that doesn't register before they run out is ridiculous. Hopefully more are to come but I doubt it.

Nah I definitely didn't get them in the first hour as my code wasn't working at checkout.....so I figure, meh, I'll try again later, and tried later in on the evening hours later and it worked! I didn't even realize they were even going to run out until I looked on here

If you got a code you could just go back later and check out. I went checkout the pins like 5 hours later.

To pick up Pikmin 3 or not to pick up Pikmin 3... I think for the next while I maybe passing on the big N.... I was surprised my wife let me get All Stars.... With a PS5 and XsX I am pretty sure I would be dead. It looks awesome though.

For me it's a no brainer. It's one of those few WiiU games I was hoping for a switch release. So I'll buy it and play it on release. I'll move whatever else I'm playing at the time on the back burner (unless I'm near the end of it).
