As much as I love Pikmin 3, I can't justify buying it again, especially not for $60. I would love to see 1 & 2 remastered and re-released on Switch. If there was added content, MAYBE. I already have the DLC on Wii U. Then again, I never touch my Wii U.

Now on to the important stuff...Super Mario 35. If anybody else experiencing lag or the equivalent when your jumps don't work right? I'm blaming lag for two bad deaths today. One spot on 1-2, Mario didn't run at one point, when he finally started to run, he ran right off the screen. Another death was on 1-3. I made a fairly routine jump to a moving platform, but the run didn't register and I just completely missed and fell.

You mean 35 I assume.

I've had a tiny bit of lag, but most of my deaths are my stupid fault for funky jumps.

I've had my own fair share of stupid deaths that were my own fault, but these had to be lag.

The controls just seem kinda...weird at times. IDK, can't think of an exact example at the moment, I just have moments here and there where it doesn't seem to do exactly what I pressed.

Ya I sort of get that, didn't jump as far as it should have based on what I pressed or seemed to stop in mid air etc. It doesn't happen often enough for me to worry but I get what you mean.

I haven't been experiencing lag. I always know when I mess up a jump and about to lose. Happened a couple times today. I once mistimed a jump and was about to land on Bowser's fire. The other guy got KOd right before I did lol.

I have now been disconnected a few times. That happened yesterday.

So I just had two hammer koopas jump from a high up platform nearly the entire length of the screen (horizontally) as I was climbing the finish. I had to pause for a paratroopa and one of those bastards got me out of the blue. Color me shocked, that's new to the series.

I could maybe see them releasing the original Pikmin (and perhaps the sequel, because if you're gonna put the effort into doing the first game then why not the second?) next year for the series' 20th anniversary.

I just played the Pikmin 3 demo. Pretty fun. I enjoyed the Overlord minion status to get them to build structures and tackle obstacles in your path. Never played any of the games in the series prior to this. Not sure if I dig this time limit thing though. Like if I don't have any fruit juice left I can't progress to the next day. Is that how it works?

I love the Pikmin games but after the first level or two I always lose interest and stop playing. Not sure why or what makes that happen but I simply can't get through those games even though I absolutely love everything about them. So Pikmin 3 is a non-starter for me this time.

Just had my most intense finish in a Mario 35 match. It was down to me and just one other person for a while. I was at max time when the timer started counting down REALLY fast. I got really lucky with the levels I was at in the rotation at that point, each one had a star and fairly easy platforming (no castle or mushroom levels), so I was able to stay afloat on time thanks to running through hoards of enemies. I kept expecting the other player to die at any second, but nope, they were somehow still alive when my timer ran out. I'm not sure how they did it, the levels they got seemed to be less ideal (one castle level, for example). Maybe they were getting stars from the roulette wheel, idk. Anyway, after the match I looked at the scoreboard, it was a Japanese player and their level was 34(star). Anyone seen that before? I'm guessing that's basically level 134?

I'm hoping to start this one up soon. I had never played the previous LM games, but when I saw the LM3 trailer, I thought it looked pretty good and wanted to play it, but I wanted to play 1 & 2 first. I beat the first one before it released, and the second shortly after it released. I enjoyed them, but I was a bit burnt out on LM, so I decided to wait before jumping into LM3. It's been on my to-play list ever since but I keep playing other stuff. Now seems like the perfect time to finally play it!

That happens to me a lot. Some players are really good at keeping their timers up. I've started targeting most coins a lot to make those players use their coins as soon as possible. This might actually be the best way to get a lot of enemies, I've learned. It seems that more people target the person with most coins, and then they'll set it to attackers. (Just like I do when I'm leading in coins.)

I played a match this morning and it was the complete opposite of yours. Got 4 KOs early and then it was all over in about 7 minutes. I had 2628 coins that match, which is now my highest total. And yeah, you start getting a star next to your level total after reaching level 99, when it starts back at 1*. So level 134 is correct in that case.

It is definitely inconsistent, as far as the competition is concerned. Sometimes it's really easy for Mario vets like us, but then you'll start having matches like Scott mentioned. It says a lot that when I start targeting most coins is when they finally start using them. I just played a match like that where someone had over 100 coins, but then I got them down to 40. I think it's because I go to castle stages (for Bowser), and other stages with difficult enemies, any chance I get. (That's why I go to the warp pipes now, since I've unlocked all the stages.) Then I just keep putting the pressure on.

I felt like I was playing almost perfect, maximizing enemies from stars, chain bouncing on enemies when I didn't have a star, running through levels as quickly as possible with no platforming mistakes. Plus, I started with max time and didn't get any of the levels that really slow you down. The only thing I didn't do that I should probably start doing in similar situations is just use my roulette wheel over and over for the occasional extra time you can get from it.

Targeting most coins may work well if you do it early in the endgame of a match, but I don't think it would make much of a difference to do it early on when things are calm. Throwing basic enemies at that player probably isn't going to affect them much.

You're right about throwing basic enemies at them. As I mentioned in my last post, that's why I target them, so I can start sending Bowser and hammer Bros at them. Earlier in the game, I'm always looking around for the weaker players. That's why I want a lot of enemies in the early game.

And yeah, using the roulette block helps. I've won a few matches where I only had 20 seconds or less on the clock. And it's because I was using the item roulette. It's not like you can do much with the coins, so I'd rather get the win.

I guess my point was that the player with the most coins is probably going to be a very strong player, so throwing basic enemies at them early on won't affect them. You may get lucky throwing a stronger enemy at them, but I feel like even that probably won't matter in the early game. Sometimes the game drops Bowser or a Hammer Bro in a difficult spot, but most of the time, it's easy to slow down and safely take them out before moving on. You can't do that as easily in the late game. Who knows though. It's hard to tell if strategies actually work well or not when there's so much variance in this game lol

Yeah I just hadn't really thought about it, I'm used to just using the roulette when I get stuck in a bad position without a power-up. I'll definitely do this next time yes

What levels do y'all most hate to see in SMB35? For me, it's definitely the two water levels, 2-2 and 7-2. Those dang bloopers and red cheep cheeps have such crazy hit boxes. I'm always taking hits from them when I swear I didn't touch them. Once you lose your fire flower, the level becomes much scarier. It doesn't help that there are NO power-ups in the level. So you either take your chances, or burn some roulette wheels.

I basically speed run the water levels, and towards the end I shell the goombas on the ground.

For me the Lakitu levels are the worst, because every time i kill one I get it back like 2 seconds later, I have to just hope for a star to get to the end.

I actually go to those water stages whenever I can. Those bloopers seem to always cause trouble. I've gotten pretty good at dealing with them myself, so I don't mind the water stages. I mostly don't like 2-3 and 7-3. I always seem to get hit by one of those cheep-cheeps.

Ya I've had like 6 targets and killed a ton of lakitus and if you don't get a star you're basically fudgeed at that point.

Same thing happened to me with those black bullets, you kill enough of those and then suddenly you have a whole screen of them, and they can't be shot.

I read this on Twitter and the guy is absolutely right. When people are talking about the biggest gaming franchises it's time more people start acknowledging the power of Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has overtaken Super Mario 3D All-Stars to be the #1 selling game on Amazon US again. The game has sold over 22 million units before the holidays and before the game reached even it's 6 month anniversary. This holiday will be nuts for the game.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been the best selling exclusive this generation on any platform, but that is about to end. That title will belong to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The fact that you can even say 30 million in one year is conservative for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, means we need to re-evaluate what the biggest series in the industry are. Animal Crossing is right at the top.

Its back at #1 in Japan too. 5.8m physical sales over there which would put it as the 5th best selling Japanese game of all time. Including digital it could possibly take the #1 spot held by Pokemon Red, Blue, Green which combine hit 7.8m. Never thought Animal Crossing had the potential to be this big.

Their was a Treehouse this week that covered Hyrule Warriors and Pikmin 3... didn't know that as it must have gotten buried in the Mario 35 talk.

Having never played a Hyrule Warriors game, learned a bit. It's not open world, rather mission based. The BotW map acts as a mission select screen. There gameplay looked repetitive but fun. Seemed to do a great job incorporating BotW into it. Still very interested. Maybe st $40 I bite.

Pikmin 3 looked like Pikmin 3. Nothing changed my mind to pass on it since I own the Wii U version.

Late in the game, I hate seeing 4-2. I usually either take the vine to the warp or run on the top of the screen. If the clock is moving fast, neither option is good. If you actually try to play the level, it's very slow. It's hard to speed run through that one. I haven't seen 7-2 yet, but I would think that one wouldn't be good. I LOVE seeing 4-1 because I can throw tons of lakitus and spinies at people.

It's common for popular games to get their own thread on this site. It happened for ACNH, MM2, MK8Dx, BotW, etc. I remember ACNH also got flack for clogging up this thread. When the hype dies down and the thread gets buried, then it can come back in. That's how it's worked here unofficially as long as I can remember.

And to be fair I am part of the "problem", but I found some of your reactions to one post simply suggesting what's common a bit off putting, but that's par for the internet, albeit in a relatively kinder fashion.

Eh, fair enough. I started talking about Mario35 almost immediately when it released. Maybe I should have just started a thread like I did for ACNH and Odyssey.

My point was that it's not a big deal whatsoever, any time it happens, with any game. To complain about people talking about Switch games in a general Switch thread just comes off, to me, a little silly. Sorry to be off-putting, at least there's a dedicated thread now.

I so want this game/kart, but I only have a small amount of hard surface without going outside I can't justify the price tag. I don't think those karts would last on aged concrete.

Im hoping they go on clearance in 6-12 months like most other Nintendo big box weird ideas.

I wouldn't be too surprised if these get the Labo treatment and end up on clearance not too long from now. Cool idea in theory, but I don't know anyone that intends to buy it.

I'm guessing they'll go the Wii Fit/Ring Fit route and last a little longer. The idea sounds so awesome, but the price tag is shocking for 2 player and it looks shallow in terms of depth.

IDK, people have seemed way more excited for this than they ever did for Labo. Labo was criticized relentlessly, but the only complaint I've seen about MKL is that people don't have enough hard floors for it.

Started up Luigi's Mansion 3. Pretty cool so far. I wasn't expecting the Virtual Boy (aka Virtual Boo) to make an appearance haha.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is pure charm. It proves N still has the magic. As long as they can keep making games like that, we are good.

@Scott, weren't you the one asking about when the Shantae games were coming to the eShop? Risky's Revenge will be released this week, but haven't seen any news on the first one.

Yeah that was me. I've been wanting to get into the series for a while but want to play the original first. I'm probably just going to emulate it soon, I'm tired of waiting.

Just got 100% on Ori and the Blind Forest. Absolutely amazing game! Looking forward to playing Will of the Wisps in the not too distant future.

Are there any other Metroidvania style games out there that are more focused on platforming than combat, like this one?

Word has it that Ori is not a Metroidvania at all.

I guess I could see that, but I still consider it one. Either way, are there other games like it?

Yeah, Ori is definitely a Metroidvania.

Will of the Wisps is really good. If you liked Ori 1 you'll love Ori 2, its better in just about every way even though 1 was pretty incredible.

Ori is a Metroidvania but I would say it's more of a platformer. Especially the first one. As far as games being similar to Ori, not really. Other Metroidvanias really don't do a great deal of Platforming. Hollow Knight does some at the end but it's difficult platforming. Blasphemous has a lot of platforming, come to think of it.

@Scott I haven't played it, but I've heard great things about Celeste and it's on sale for $5 right now (https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/celeste-swit...)

Here's some other games to consider:
- Owlboy
- Steam World Dig 2
- Yoku's Island Express
- Guacamelee

I tried Celeste once but couldn't get into it. I think I just wasn't in the right mood for it at the time, so I plan to give it another shot eventually.

I loved SteamWorld Dig and want to play the sequel soon.

I watched some gameplay videos of Owlboy and it didn't look too appealing to me.

I think I bought Guacamelee on sale a while back, still haven't tried it.

I'll look into Yoku's island Express. Thanks!

Yokus Island Express is fun, albeit short and you can't die.

I will echo that. I played Yoku's on Game Pass a few months back. So relaxing.

We should have seen it coming. Even without 'Rona, it's a hell of an undertaking for a single man.
