Ys IX looks interesting to me even though I hated Ys VIII. I guess I never learn. But the environment in it looks cool and reminds me of the hub world from Sonic 06. On top of that exploration and platforming seem to actually play a role in it, so it really is like Sonic 06. :p
Something tells me 06 has better combat. But maybe the Switch OS button remapping features will make it better than Ys VIII at least. The camera can barely keep up when the gameplay is so fast. This wasn't really an issue in the older top down perspective Ys games.

My backlog:

Control PS5
Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 (when that version comes out)
Mario 3D World Switch

Other than that I am good to go, fudge having like 60 games man that would drive me crazy.

Thanks for the info. yes I don't like how they don't appear to be in the track but if they work fine that's all I would care about.

That's a really nice deal then. I've been buying replacement joysticks for about $7 each, and my screwdriver I think I paid about $10 for.

Speaking of backlogs, I just started Paper Mario Origami King. So far, so good. I just can't stand the annoying hand holding. You do the battle tutorial (which is ridiculous). Then you play for about 10 minutes without a battle. When you get to the next battle, they make you do the battle tutorial again. The annoying helper NPC tells you it's been a while so she'll refresh your memory. Absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah Nintendo sometimes goes a little overboard with that crap in the beginning of their games. Way too much text explaining things like you're a dummy.

It was my least favorite Paper Mario (yes I am one of those that really liked Sticker Star). For one, there is such a small amount of stickers. At least in Sticker Star you had dozens of these unique super attacks. And I also didn't like that female origami sidekick. She would go off on these boring obvious tangents all the time. The writing was just not good, and I did not feel that Nintendo Magic like I do in most of their games.

They dropped the ball with Origami King. I mean she doesn't stop noticing things right in front of you or telling you exactly where to go. And she goes off on these just boring sappy tangents about how you are all helping me, and fighting together. Ugh.

I like Origami King. I find it charming and clever and mostly well-written.

I don't like how weapons break and you gotta keep rebuying (or finding) more. I guess that's just Nintendo's new favorite thing (see also Zelda: BOTW, Animal Crossing, Mario Tennis Aces...)

Yes, but I think it's really hard for kids. It's actually my son's game (he's 8), but he quit before the first boss. The battles are more like puzzles than RPG battles. Basically, if you solve the puzzle, the battle is easy enough to win without getting hit. But if you don't solve the puzzle, you can lose very quickly because you get hit by 5+ enemies at a time.

I know this isn't a 1st party game, but Nintendo has been getting better. Look at BotW. I mean, there is no hand holding in that game at all. They just drop you off in a big world and let you run free. You learn from dying in that game. This game is the exact opposite. This helper character is like a step backwards to the sword in Skyward Sword (remember how obnoxious she was?). It's made even worse by the fact that you can't skip her dialogue or even make the text appear faster.

Just started the first Banner Saga. gosh darn, I love the animation in this game. Also digging how it seems choices matter, and the branching dialogue is neat. Big fan of the battle style too. Turn-based strategy RPG style is always sorta hit-or-miss for me but I dig how it's pulled off in Banner Saga.

Loving what little bit of the story I've seen so far, looking forward to plowing through this one.

That's why I got bored with Sticker Star. (Didn't play Color Splash enough to have an opinion on that one.) I do avoid battles when I can in Origami King, but I haven't gotten bored when I have to fight. Since they're basically puzzles as bonham2 said, they usually keep me engaged. And the boss battles are pretty interesting in how they utilize the ring. They do tend to drag on a little longer than I'd like.

Anyway, it's another polarizing Paper Mario game, so I can't guarantee that you would like it because I do.

Guacamelee 1 was an amazing game. For some reason, I can't get into 2. I tried it twice, probably about 2-3 hours total, but I can't get into it.

As for Paper Mario, I liked the original, loved Thousand Year Door. I enjoyed Sticker Star enough to finish it. Super Paper Mario was really good too. Color Splash was bad. I got bored and quit it. I miss the Mario & Luigi games too. Inside Bowser's Story, Paper Jam, Partners in Time. They are all really good games that I would love see come to the Switch.

Anyone have a chance to check out Blue Fire in the eShop? It released a couple of days ago for $20 (on sale for $17.99 until next week though) and if any of you have played it I wanna hear some impressions. It's also on Steam and will release on PS4 and Xbox One at some point but I don't think those versions have a release date yet.

You download a brief demo of Hitman 3 and Control to test your internet connection. After those few minutes, you have the option to purchase the game. As for Rocket League, it's the same game as it always was, except it's free to play now.

You're right, they don't do free stuff. This "new" version of Uno (called "Uno: Ultimate Edition" in the eShop, but when you download it is still just called Uno) is exactly the same as the previous version, except now they charge $5 for each bonus deck of cards that used to be free to people who bought the original release of Uno in the eShop. There was no reason for this, now they've split up the playerbase. Instead what they should have done is fix the damn bugs in the game that have plagued the Switch version for years.

Uno ultimate sounds like as much of an improvement over the previous version as Tetris ultimate was back on 3ds. IIRC, there wasn't really anything new compared to Tetris Axis, but both Axis and the original Game Boy tetris were pulled off the eshop around the time Tetris Ultimate was released.

Now that I think about it, Tetris Ultimate was also published by Ubisoft. Go figure.

I picked up Mario 3D World today, and the first word that comes to mind is FAST! I remember the Wii U game always felt a bit sluggish, but this game is super fast. I can't get used to it yet.

The other thing is I forgot how much I hate the multiplayer. I've been playing with my two younger boys (8 & 10). I always say I want to play more with them until I actually do. I'm sure this will be an unpopular statement, but I don't like playing with my kids. They suck. They rush through the game, skip stars/stamps. They go into pipes before I can collect power ups. They lose all of our extra lives, and they'll pick me up and throw me off the map. It's so frustrating.

This is why I was so disappointed in the Wii U version for only giving the option of local multiplayer (in the NSMB series as well). When my family and friends visit none of the adults would ever ask to play the Wii U (I doubt most knew what it was), the ones who did were usually the kids who sucked, mostly ignored collectibles that weren't in plain sight, and I'd have to carry them through the levels. Adding in online play is the only reason they got my $60 for this port and now I hope to be able to enjoy it with people at a similar skill level as me.

Somehow. Somehow, I got through all of Mario Deluxe with my son. It was infuriating though since you can bump each other off ledges and his control is terrible. We still had some fun but I know exactly how you feel. It kinda feels like you're being bullied by your own kid.

There's... not a !ot in that trailer and even less on the game's website. For a midpriced game, that seems crazy (if you'll pardon the joke) that there wouldn't be more videos up if it is just s couple weeks away. If it was a $10 game, I can see them releasing and hoping the Crazy Taxi nostalgia will grab some impulse sales. But $30-$35 for an indie studio sets a pretty high expectation.

Crazy Taxi worked because it combined really great controls with equally good stage design and layout. This game apparently has a lot of unlockable cars, but I'm doubtful that developer Team 6 Game Studios is up to the challenge.

Review scores for any of their games, past or present, have not been great. Even previous taxi-based games (of which they have done several)

Haha... on the topic of Zelda, its 35th anniversary is next week. I hope they have something planned even though I wouldn't expect any announcement until later in the year.

I'm playing through in my own file too. It's hard for me to skip through and not get all the stars, so I'm doing it on my own.

I also started Bowser's Fury today. It's definitely a lot of fun.

So I didn't realize that the 2020 Capcom leak included a localization of both Great Ace Attorney games. So excited!

I haven't played yet, but I'm a bit concerned about the speed. My only problem with the speed in the Wii U version was that your character was so slow to get up to running speed, but once they were at running speed, I thought it was fine. If they basically just run all the time now, or get up to running speed much faster, that would be a great change. But if they move even faster than the old running speed, that may be hard to get used to since I've played the original so much.

Edit: I just watched a comparison video. Wow, they definitely run a lot faster. I think I'll like it better though, once I get used to it.

Hopefully they do something Zelda-related this year. I posted this recently when we were talking about what games we most want to see next...Ideally, we'd get a collection of all the pre-BotW 3D Zelda games, so the 3DSversions of OoT and MM, TP:HD, WW:HD, and Skyward Sword. But, it's Nintendo, so I know that's asking a LOT. Skyward Sword is probably the least likely to be included. They've not re-released that one yet, so that will definitely come as a stand-alone. Then again, it's hard to see them not releasing TP:HD and WW:HD as stand-alones too, we all know they'd sell like crazy. So, I don't really know what to expect, I just know I'd like to see these games become available on Switch. It does seem likely we'll see something in this realm this year though, since it's the 35th anniversary of Zelda.

I think realistically, we'll see one of the following:

1) Some kind of collection, but it definitely won't include all of the pre-BotW Zelda games. Just 3 of them, like SM3DAS.

2) Skyward Sword port

3) Oracle of Ages/Seasons remake using the same engine as the Link's Awakening remake

4) WWHD and TPHD ports, either separate or bundled together.

5) Breath of the Wild 2

I feel like that would be a letdown. Super Mario 3D All-Stars was a disappointment overall, just an excuse to re-sell us more ROMs like they were previously doing with the Virtual Console. Am I wrong for feeling like with the kind of history the Mario and Zelda series each have behind them, that they both deserve something better and more along the lines of what the Halo series got with Master Chief Collection?

#3 would be the first thing I want.

I'm curious if Skyward Sword is port-able, given the unique waggle controls, but if possible, then you throw LoZ, AoL, ALttP, LA, OoA, OoS in a 2D collection...and then OoT 3D, MM 3D, WW HD, TP HD, SS in a 3D collection, that covers most games except ALBW and Triforce Heroes.

I agree SM3DAS was a let-down. If they could have at least thrown Galaxy 2 on there, it wouldn't have been so bad. Then, we would at least have access to all of the 3D Mario games on Switch. But yeah, they still should have done more.

I'd be happy with a zelda 35th anniversary collection of OOT (think they have to include it even though I don't want to play it), twilight princess, and skyward sword. They likely will exclude SS and include majoras mask or Windwaker if I were to guess.

I want OoT and MM with the 3ds remake engine. I assume they might have to fix the resolution a little though but that would be more than enough for me. I'd love for the other Zeldas mentioned to be coming out in some capacity as well though.

a collection or release for WWHD and TP is probably the most releastic, if they even do anything. What with them working on BOTW 2.

Was just coming to post this! 50 minutes is very exciting. I can't remember the last time we got a long Direct, or one that wasn't focused on just 1 game and/or already announced games.

Anybody have any guesses what new stuff they'll reveal? I do think BotW2 is coming this year, but I don't think they'll show that quite yet. I think it's pretty likely that a Pokemon Diamond/Pearl remake is coming this year, so I could see that being announced tomorrow. Maybe something else Zelda-related for the 35th Anniversary.
