League Overview
Happy New Year, everyone! Welcome to Year 4 of the GameTZ Fantasy Gaming League. This is basically fantasy football with games. Each person picks 10 games and those 10 games make up your "team" for the year. The Metacritic scores for your 10 games are tallied up at the end of the year to determine your total. Highest overall score wins. You also get 2 alternate picks (these should be safe choices) just in case one of your picks gets delayed into 2022. So if you shoot for the moon with a game like The Elder Scrolls VI and it gets pushed into 2022, one of your alternates takes its place and you don't end up with 0 points for that game. The goal is to pick games that you think have a very good chance of releasing in 2021.
The Rules: 1. No DLC or Expansions 2. No Ports or Remasters (full remakes are allowed) 3. Alternate picks can only replace games delayed into 2022. They cannot be used to replace games in your top 10 that review poorly.
The Prize: 1st Place: A $50 Amazon Gift Card
The Participants: 1. Heavyd814life 2. Roko 3. Cevil 4. TalonJedi 5. SwiftJAB 6. Gypsy 7. PizzaTheHutt 8. JD 9. Bogo 10. Bleed_DukeBlue 11. Archer 12. Boss 13. Thatfootballguy 14. Scott 15. Jim269 16. Done! I went with the usual titles I'm personally looking forward to that I hope releases this year on my hit list I hope will do more than well. Not really a competitive guy, but I enjoy participating. Thanks!
PC games being ported from PC to console are a no go, right? For example Disco Elysium is being ported this year and its only been released on PC so far.

Correct. Ports and remasters are a no-go. Remakes on the level of Final Fantasy VII or OddWorld or something are fine since that's effectively an entirely different game, though.
I mean the show and books kinda never had an easy mode, IE The Red Wedding, so why should the Thronesverse expect a From Soft game to have one? If anything this may be the hardest most brutal and demoralizing game of all time.

People will be mad. People were mad about Sekiro. I think Kommie is right in that it could draw more casual interest which could lead to more complaining.
Oh I'm sure it will. All those snowflakes out there are gonna have that whine with their cheese indeed. Even if Miyazaki-san and George Martin get on a mic at E3 or a big press conference and say "This game is going to be hard" quite plainly people will still hear what they wanna hear and complain.
Hey guys so JD wants to include Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis as one of his picks. I can't make out what this game is. It seems like an expansion on the surface, but it also seems like a sequel because it has a new gameplay engine, overhauled visuals, new game mechanics, new zones, and basically everything else you'd expect from a real sequel.
I think it's fine but wanted to see what everyone else thinks. So...

I'm not against letting it count, but will there even be enough reviews to bother? Looking at vanilla Phantasy Star Online 2 for PC and Xbox One on Metacritic, neither one got the minimum of 4 reviews required to be given an average score.
I tried playing it safe this time. I expect almost everything on my list to be fairly common across everyone else's too, except I did pick a couple games that aren't actually confirmed for release in 2021 yet, but I expect they will. We'll see how that goes.
Some really nice lists so far, guys! There are two or three games that I'm kicking myself for forgetting about and a couple I hadn't even heard of but doing research now they seem like really solid picks. I had a harder time than usual this year putting my list together because there are so few games with concrete release dates and so many of the ones without release dates could hit 90 easily if they do come out.
Submitted. I thought about playing it safe this year and only listing games I thought would definitely release. But...that just wasn't as fun, so I submitted a list with a ton of risks again, like last year lol
i'll get a list worked up in the next few days, its late right now and i need to look up whats even supposed to come out this year, its been so weird and so much potential for delay and stuff it will be interesting this year.
There's actually some evidence of sorts that Elden Ring gets released this year.
Taken from Reddit:
u/Charred-Glass 46 minutes ago
a reputable italian journalist, francesco fossetti, stated that elden ring finished development and that its in the polishing phase, and that if it wasnt for covid it wouldve been done and out by now. bandai namco then warned him or something along those lines not to say anything else and sites this subreddit as example of leaking info which means he was right and struck down and we got some rat hunting to do
I just hope if Elden Ring does release this year it is optimized more so for PS5/XSX than last gen hardware. We do not need another Cyberbug fiasco. Although can From Soft games ever optimize their games? Even Sekiro running on a PS5/XSX I noticed had frame dips that struggled to stay at 60fps from a Digital Foundry video with the default hardware and no developer patch.
I doubt it comes out this year personally. I've always figured it would be a 2022 game based off the info they provided in 2019. Saying it was in the early stages of development still.
Their games may not run at amazing FPS, but they don't release unfinished games with missing content and glitches galore. Aside from actual bug enemies, don't expect bugs on level with Cyberpunk 2077. I have no idea why people think Elden Ring will be a fiasco release like Cyberpunk.
I just meant in regards to being optimized in FPS not bugs. From Soft has a good QC team unlike CDPR. They just need a sleeker graphics engine or programmer to optimize and tweak the performance on their games a bit better to run a little smoother and not rely on users with a PC users to make the game run better for them. Looking at you Bloodborne. But yeah I still love you Bloodborne. Don't serve me the divorce papers.
> Forgot Suicide Squad game i doubt it'll release this year
Yeah, Rocksteady has already said it's a 2022 game. And it looks like a GaaS game to me and those almost never review well. But it is Rocksteady and they have the pedigree so if anyone can pull it off, they can. It'll be interesting to see how many people have this game on their lists next year.
Yeah, but signups are still open so it's all fair game. It's only once signups close and all picks are made public that lineups are locked for the year.
Okay guys, we're all set! The OP has been updated with all 26 teams. Can't believe we got 26 people! Thanks for signing up, everyone. Should be a ton of fun keeping this updated all year.
There are some really great teams and I think I may have been a little too conservative with my picks, but games without a release date always make me nervous. Hell, I was even on the fence about picking Horizon Forbidden West. I'll probably end up regretting it if some of these heavy hitters make it out this year.
There are some great picks, some of which I hadn't even considered. I am kicking myself for forgetting about 12 Minutes and Baldur's Gate (each appearing on just 2 teams). I honestly wouldn't be shocked if they ended up being 2 of the best-reviewed games of the year.
We had a few people take a shot on Elden Ring. Love it! And Horizon Forbidden West appears on 21 teams making it the most popular pick of 2021. It's followed closely by Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (19 teams) and Monster Hunter Rise (18 teams).
I think it's going to be a really close race again this year. Good luck, everyone!
I thought we couldn't do games like Baldur's Gate III, because its technically already came out? Even though its in early access, its the full game and has reviews.
