Doesn't look like there's a discussion thread for PS4, unless I'm blind. Let's discuss PS4, then, in this thread.

Recent news: according to Kotaku, Gamestop is no longer taking preorders for the system. Hope you got your preorder in!

Sweet, I just won this in an auction and think I'll look to play it early next year since I only beat it on the PS3 during the summer. Want to play the DLC too.

Like, co-op games? I know of a few games, but they're more like action games and not classic RPGs like Baldur's Gate. There's Dragon's Crown, Diablo 3, Toukiden 1 & 2, and Titan Quest. I've played all those games on different systems but they're also on PS4. For PS4 specifically, you could look at Elder Scrolls Online. I'm not really sure how the multiplayer in that game works, though.

To those with a 1TB drive, do you find that's enough space, or did you upgrade to a larger capacity drive and/or use an external drive? I've got 12+ disc games and a half dozen small digital games, and I'm wondering if I should just upgrade the drive to 2TB or 4TB first thing when I get the PS4. Or, is 1TB enough?

I've got a 1TB Pro and it's totally enough.

I even have Warzone installed, about 10 other games, and a couple disc ones.

Also, if you want more space just hook up an external USB 3 drive, no need to upgrade anything

I bought a 2tb external and Im glad I did. You barely have any games though, so 1TB might be enough for you. Online games (MW, Battlefield 4/5, Battlefront 2, etc) were the ones killing me and I do have a ridiculous amount of PS4 games so that didnt help the 500gb situation.

I did eventually run out of space and needed to delete some things, but honestly if you're mainly playing a few different games at a time, and not 30+, you'll probably be OK.

Hmm, good advice, everyone. It's just games like Horizon or God of War that say 50GB install size that worries me. I've also got Skyrim, Diablo 3, the Assassin's Creed (Odyssey, Origina, Unity, Syndicate) games and I know I'll likely pick up DLC for some of those. Most of my digital games are small, the biggest is probably Infamous Last Light.

When you use an External drive, do you put the games you're not currently playing on it? Or is it pretty good at reading games quickly off the external HDD in order to play them?

For those that upgraded, do you spring for an SSD or SSDH (hybrid SSD and HDD)? Or a 7200 RPM spin speed?

Not necessarily. You put whatever games you want on it and you can play the game off of the external. I havent noticed performance issues at all.

Cool tip: You can actually have different external hdds with different games on them. The ps4 will let you swap between them. You cannot have them at the same time though.

Divinity Original Sin 2 (and maybe the first one) is the only ones I know of that fit the true rpg bill that has that co-op you're looking for online.

To me, you can't call it a true rpg unless it's turn-based. Anything else is an action rpg or has rpg elements.

Yeah i heard that game is great, but I'm looking for something more casual, like traditional old school console rpgs like final fantasy dragon quest breath of fire. My friend is used to stuff like that and easy switch games like animal crossing, mario party and kart. she wouldn't like something like Divinity.

I usually do but there is no real need to this gen. But until recently I had an external HDD and felt better about unplugging it when not in use.

I bought 2 of these here off someone and have 1 for my X1X and 1 for my PS4. Absolutely love them, they're tiny. With these I leave them plugged in and no longer offload unplayed things to them. I just install things wherever and play them from wherever.

Second-hand PS4 Pro or regular PS4 slim? I think I asked this a while back. Someone mentioned that games didn't run as well and/or didn't look as good on a Pro. A few GTZers are selling their PS4 Pro consoles ahead of the PS5 launch. Curious if PS4 Pro really makes a big difference, or I should wait for (hopefully) some Black Friday price cuts on the PS4 slim. If it was you, what strategy would you go with?

longhornsk57

I don't know what you mean by doesn't look as good on a Pro, but the slim runs most modern games like crap and the Pro handles them really well. I would not waste money on a slim, it doesn't even play 4K discs.

Second hand PS4 slim

Don't buy the pro. Not in 2020. That's just 200 bucks that should be going towards a PS5. The slim does everything the Pro does, and the Pro honestly does not improve much of anything, other than smearing 2K up to 4K in a few games. The base PS4 experience is fine. It's very fine.

I don't agree at all. Checkerboard 4K and HDR look a lot better than than the horrible frame rates you get out of a slim.

What terrible frame rates? I didn't have terrible framerates on the slim, and I honestly didn't have GOOD framerates on the Pro. It was a pretty dumpy proposition. The resolution gets bumped up a bit. In some games. And the UI. Ok? At worst it was on parity with every other console/iteration out there, other than One X for obvious reasons.

If I could pick up a PS4 Slim for $120-140 tomorrow, I'd find $120-140. That's solid value. Hell, I'd probably go in on a fatty for $110-120.

For each their own I guess.

My Pro vastly outperformed the launch PS4, I guess you had different results.

I'd take a PS5 over both but the Pro is easily worth the extra $100 to me.

I'm just in conservative mode. If I could shave anything significant off a Pro purchase price on a dead system, I'd take it, even at the cost of some upscaling. PS4 slim looks fine on a 4K set, any differences will quickly be forgotten once you jump in a game to, you know. Play it. smile
longhornsk57

To me the resolution, HDR, and frame rate are extremely noticeable and games like Uncharted 4, HZD, Control, etc look and play significantly better on the Pro. To me it's worth $100.

Durr, I picked up a used slim about 5 months ago and have it hooked up to a 4k OLED. Haven't played it much, but primarily got it to play the likes of Uncharted 4, Spiderman, HZD, etc. Should I have gone for the pro instead, some folks suggested the slim over the pro based on my interest in just the exclusives, no interest in MP.

Picked up Dirt 5 yesterday and have been having a blast with it. I just have a non-Pro PS4 and there's a toggle between graphical effects or framerate. The framerate mode doesn't lock it at 60 like I had hoped, but it's not bad. However, the graphical effects mode vastly improves the experience for night races and races with weather effects like snow or rain. I'm glad you can switch on the fly in the pause menu.

If you like arcadey racing games (but not too arcadey) you won't go wrong with this one.

Yeah, I don't have a 4K TV (yet) but I might upgrade - but even then, I think the biggest I could go for is 32" to 43" because of space limitations. I have a number of games that claim to be PS4-Pro enhanced. I don't intend to get a PS5 at launch, I like to wait for later iterations (more games available, possible updates to firmware, hardware, software). Some GTZers are offering their PS4 Pros for rates less than a new PS4 Slim, and I don't feel comfortable buying a console off Craigslist because who knows if it's a dud. I know PS5 is BC with 99% of PS4 games... honestly, though, I don't mind waiting. I've waited all this time for a PS4, right?

The difference between ps4 slim and pro is pretty big imo. I had a slim for a couple years and when I got my pro, I could tell how many games don't struggle as much as on the slim. But imo my one x blows the pro out of the water, except for some reason I feel like the hdr is better on pro. Or just the colors in general are better

I haven't played Watch Dogs 1, but I myself am a fan of Watch Dogs 2. It's more open world errand type stuff, you can just run around and get into random shenanigans if you want. In some ways it's like a less expansive Grand Theft Auto, lol. You can just hop in a car or on a motorcycle and drive off, get into cop chases. There is a primary story line and then side quests. You can also, if you want, do some online quests and get paired up with other hackers (though you don't have to). I'm waiting for Legions to go on sale on Black Friday and then I'll pick that up too.

2 is the only one I didn't play. And this sounds way better than Legion. Legion is kind of short and scaled back. Not much to it. Not much to do overall. Feels like they had a lot of ideas/ambition but then funding got cut or something and it was rushed out half realized. I had fun with it for what it was it. But it just felt half of what they intended. Nothing as cool as what you just described about the previous game.

The 2nd game is massive. A picture perfect copy of san Francisco. Dozens of skills and I unlock. From hacking people's phones and stealing money. Or cause the street lights to go red or turn green. Control different construction machines, to reach top of buildings or hidden skill points. It's badass. Highly recommend

I actually enjoyed WD1, but I played it long after the hype died down and I knew it was just another open world title. It's nothing amazing but I felt it was solid enough and enjoyable.
But one part was really cool to me, I suspect they kept it in 2 but who knows. Basically you could invade someone else's game and have it happen to you. 'Impostor' would load in as a random looking NPC and you could just F with people or you could hack them and try to steal some of their $$.
You basically just had to get LoS to them and start the hack, person would get notified and if you stayed put for a short while you'd steal funds and then have to remain undetected and alive long enough to complete the theft. The robbed person would get a shrinking area on their map of where the hacker was and want to find and kill that person before the timer, I think it was like 2 mins, expired. It was really thrilling trying to steal people's stuff and not get caught. Was generally fun to have it attempted on you IF you could catch the punk.

Thankfully it wouldn't trigger if you were in main missions. I played on PC and later into the game's life that I'm sure the community was rather small so it wasn't so frequent it was annoying. You could turn that off as well, but it used to be so thrilling to me to be a thief and get away with it.

I'm about 25 hours into RDR 2 and I'm really digging it! The game isn't without its faults, but I'm glad I didn't give up on it early on when everything just felt ridiculously slow and boring. It's honestly one of the slowest-paced games I've ever played, but I think I've reached a point where I'm fully immersed and have just kinda embraced it. The missions are really starting to pop, Arthur has grown on me, and I'm just really enjoying the game world. My PS5 arrived today, but I probably won't even bother setting it up until I'm done with this. It's definitely got its hooks in me and I honestly didn't think that would happen after the first 5 or so hours.

Did you get past the snowy opening bit? I remember that part being slow and boring me to tears but once it gets into the classic western story proper, I was in love. Arthur is such a well developed character, and the whole story plays out in a fun way.

Of course I never played RDR1 so I can't compare but RDR2 is one of my favorite games of the past 5 years.

Yah man it's addicting. I'm a little disappointed in the story length. Last night I got to the "this is the last chance to upgrade before the end" warning message and was a little thrown off. But I'm just playing all the "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man" app missions before I play the ending and enjoy how they branch out and are ongoing as opposed to the og PS4 Spider-man side missions that were all just one and done, so Miles Morales somewhat makes up for the short story in that respect at least.

Yah not gonna pretend the controls were perfect, riding the ehorse in certain spots was a nightmare, but they weren't so bad that I didn't enjoy my time with the game. After a while you sort of just get used to the sluggishness of the controls and learn to work with it. Shouldn't be necessary but that's how it is. Hope you can look past it to get through the story at least, it's really great.

A lot of the cinematics for LOU2 are used for hidden loading screens.....

Feel like most cinematics in any game take advantage of that.

I like how I just bought Person 5 Royal for $20 from Best Buy from their Early Access Black Friday sale, when I still have a sealed Persona 5 that I bought from Best Buy for $30 a while back.

ya stick with it, its so good, arthur is one of the best game characters ever.. i cant even tell you how good this game gets later on. i liked it infinitely more than RDR1. arthur is leagues ahead of john as a character and is written so well. there are lines and scenes from rdr2 that are still with me and im still wowed by them and i played at launch.

Near 100% you cant add GCU with Black Friday, this came up last Black Friday.

You can use GCU during the early access period, and many of the Black Friday deals are live then.

Oh nice, you have many spot left or most used? You are the only user I think left, the last Highlander!

I tried to update with what I could remember was gone in the list I have in Gaming Marketplace, but I may have missed something, as I had a ton of orders recently. Some good deals are gone (notably Watch Dogs Legion, 13 Sentinels, Maneater, and Persona 5 Royal), but there are still some other good deals left that I do have spaces for. I can always double check if there's something in particular that you're looking for.
